Since driving in TV is a never ending subject-I thought a poll was in order.

We all have our horror stories of close calls, or even actual accidents, but I have yet to come across anyone (here or in person)...who has admitted that they are not really that good of a driver.

Almost everyone (myself included), thinks we are far above 'average' drivers.

I base my personal evaluation on having avoided a plethora of accidents by always being highly vigilant, not talking (much less texting) on a cell phone and having a background of racing numerous types of vehicles...but I also know that once in a while it's just plain luck that I avoided an incident.

Sooooo...let's see how TOTV members view themselves. :D

I just wish they would learn how to use the round about,s ,and get in the right lanes to go left or straight.cutting in front of vehicles is a accident waiting to happen.

redwitch 01-08-2017 05:09 PM

I used to have a NASCAR license, have taken more defensive driving courses than I care to count, but have still been in a few near misses and two accidents, not all of which I can blame on someone else. Even the best drivers have inattentive moments and times they have no business driving.

TNLAKEPANDA 01-08-2017 06:43 PM

I had to physically jump out of my car to stop a woman from hitting me at a pool/mailbox location. Clearly she was roo old to be driving because she had no control of her vehicle.

Driving

I read, and it seems to be true, that everyone thinks they are good drivers, have a good sense of humor ,and have good taste.

Hence, the reason for the thread/poll. :D

Not only are they all exceptional drivers, they tip well over 20%, always pick up dog poop, and have never saved a chair at the square.

Well I may not be the best driver but I tip at 30% (or sometimes more). You can see me on my iPhone calculator figuring it out. Also, I pick up my dog's poop EVERY TIME. I carry bags on the leash. Its a NYC thing I think.

:D

I was in a Signature Coach van from Sanford today and the driver who is a Village resident made a left from the right lane and almost hit a car who was in the inner lane where he had the right to be. She thought he was in the wrong. If "professional" drivers can't get it right what can we expect from the snowbirds.

That's scary. The Signature Coach driver should know better. Maybe she should read the Sumter Co. Roundabout brochure and/or the Signature Coach should train their drivers.

My best drive is with the Ping G10, 9 degree driver compared to the other 2 drivers I use but my 12 degree Bazooka gets me over trees.

I get passed frequently in my cart. I like to stop at stop signs along with giving a signal before making turns. I know I am enjoying the sites, but I am doing 20 mph.

cquick 01-09-2017 09:40 AM

I feel that the only reason I haven't been hit while driving here in The Villages is because I watch for the other person constantly. I drive defensively and if the other person wants to turn left in front of me, I'll slow down to let them.

Now let me ask posters in a below poll I am beginning "how many of you believe that the poll presently being conducted has any relevant value at all? show of hands:D

Disregarding your obvious attempt at taking a personal shot...I think the poll is quite eye-opening and relevant. ;)

While we have a plethora of threads lamenting the driving of residents in TV, nearly 70% of the 76 folks (as of now) who voted consider themselves highly skilled...and far above average drivers.

So a strong argument could be made, that the message of the threads pointing out the failures of other drivers are either not getting to the people who need to see themselves as a problem driver....OR????

I think that the round abouts should be one lane, that would help a lot.

We are at the age, thru no fault of our own, when medical symptoms are the culprit! I witnessed this first hand, my Doug had a TIA, fortunately no one was hurt, and prior to this incident, was an excellent driver.

This poll is useless as mammary glands on a male bovine.

Everyone thinks they are good drivers and almost everyone isn't.

blueeagle65 01-10-2017 09:46 AM

If you don't fall into the first group you are definitely part of the problem, because everyone else recognizes you as being worse than you see yourself.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

OR

If you put yourself in the first group, you are a problem.

I'll admit to a driving mistake and thankfully no one was hurt except my ego. Exiting Brownwood there is a median strip in front of the cart sales and repair place. When golf carts are parked in a line in front of this business it looks like a parking lot on the right and I went down the left side of strip thinking I was going straight. I was very lucky not to have a head-on crash but no one was coming the other way at that time. I banged a "U eeee" and I was quite shaken up that I made such a stupid mistake. I've seen that section of road at night when golf carts are not lined up on right and it's very obvious which way to go but when carts are parked there I think it's confusing. 2 of my neighbors admitted they have made the same mistake at that same spot. Anyone else have a problem in that area?

Two Bills 01-11-2017 09:54 AM

67% say they are very good drivers?
So how come only about 10% of vehicles in TV give direction signals!

Why bother with all the paranoid, terrified drivers who won't believe your turn signal and sit there and wait anyway?
