Warning for Political Posters
 

One of the reasons the original political forum was discontinued was the spillover of acrimonious posts into main forum discussions. In the intervening months, there were numerous threads and posts asking for the return of the political forum. To concerns about political comments and attitudes entering main board discussions, many assured us that wouldn't happen. The use of "Guest" as the ID for all participants was an attempt to ward off spillover to the main section by keeping participants anonymous. Unfortunately, an app not supported by TOTV revealed posters actual ID increasing member on member hostility.

We are now seeing significant incidences of posters bringing their hostility toward other members into main board threads through direct responses and comments that may outwardly appear innocuous but are intended to antagonize. This must stop NOW.

The existence of the political forum and posting privileges may be at risk if this continues.

I for one have gotten sick and tired of all the nasty posts on the Political Forum. I almost never go there anymore.

I'd really love to have rational discussions about differences in policies and philosophies, but that has become impossible because of a small number of people whose only objective seems to be to insult and annoy people.

Some people really need to get something else in their lives. I have really begun to feel sorry for them. They are evidently in so much emotional pain that they feel the need to do this on a regular basis.

if it gets cleaned up and these few are denied privileges, maybe we can get back to having a serious political forum.

Let's do it... Can't you ignore them?

This is a true BASTION of FREE SPEECH. Do NOT let it fall.

You know...if we had a "men only" forum...ALL this stupid bickering would stop. It's the women causing these problems.

Give us men our own forum...they have theirs. They would complain about us "polluting" "their area", their "safe space". Why should we allow their bickering to ruin our space?

Possible solutions...

-Make totv compatible with tapatalk, possibly with a software upgrade to totv.

-Allow more free speech. Maybe even penalties for unwarranted complaints by these thing skinned wackadoodles that constantly report to mod. It must be very time consuming for mods when one poster complains so often.

-Other boards require a minimum of 500 or 1000 posts before allowing posts in the off topic or political forums. Everyone would be exposed and only long timers could post, keeping it more civil. It would also preserve the great image of the villages and not turn off newbies. Friends from up north have said they have a different opinion of the villages after reading the political forum. The political forum has a small percentage of posters, but unfortunately presents a bad Village image.


Thank goodness for the unmoderated political forum, the only place for free speech without moderation.

Of the persons I have polled, no one has seen this spillover hostility, anyone else?

One can only guess who this poster might be! The resident sexist!

The mod is not talking about the nasty political forum, but spillover of posts into the general forum of "innocuous" posts but are intended to antagonize.

I am not a sexist but maybe a men's forum would be a good idea, less drama sounds good for me.

Show real names or at least familiar screen names. I show mine. If you don't want to, then that shows you might be an anonymous bully. I understand (kind of) the feeling of fear that a person might have of their information being hacked, but I also say that being anonymous seems to escalate the bullying on the part of some people. NOT you Rubicon, or you Polar Bear, or you Yvonne, or a number of posters who are outspoken but fair and don't use demeaning and hateful posts to stir the pot. Grace Gantner

Yes. Thanks for that. I will put my worst nemesis on the Ignore List yet again and hope people will alert me if I need to go to the Moderator again about this poster who will remain on the Ignore List. I believe pretty much any regular Poster on the Political Forum knows who I have been having rather troublesome problems with for the past six weeks or so. And many of the people on the regular board probably also know of whom I speak. Calling someone a dork and a retard (directed at me) should give a clue to whom I complained about whose attacks on me are anything but innocuous. They may look that way to someone who knows not know my back story but this man or woman seems to and continues to make personal attacks on me.

And the Ignore List seems to make Political Forum posts as well out of my sight. I would have booted this person a long time ago from Talk of the Villages if I had any control over the matter.

Looks like the Ignore List still works on the Political Forum. :)

I would use a different adjective than "aggressive" here. There are posters on the Political Forum who are racist, mean-spirited, women-hating and just plain dishonest.

And any "abuse" should not be acceptable.

I do point these traits out as any decent person should. And other actual Christians on here do the same. Trump has brought out the worst in many people and he has polluted political discourse by making personal attacks acceptable rather than talking about the actual policies and the like. These attacks are irrelevant and illogical for the most part but they did work for Donald Trump.

I think any decent person knows who on the Political Forum should be banned and who should be able to stay. There are fair minded Republicans, Independents as well as Democrats on Talk of the Villages.

Perhaps things might be different if he were not so stupid as to make personal attacks against Trump supporters and expect people not to say bad things back at him, all while telling every retarded detail of his life on totv and all over the Internet. Then if some innocuous remark is made that resembles his life he runs to the mod and plays the wackadoodle, I am a protected class card.

Now affald goes back on Ignore List and I hope the Moderator is reading this Thread to see that this man has a great deal of animosity towards me and just about every post directed at me by him or her has a bad intent. I have no idea who affald is. That is the problem. If this person accepted responsibility for his or her posts that would be great. I would love for his neighbors to see what he/she really thinks about stuff.

You seem to have a compulsive desire to get your name on something. While that might suit you, it might not suit others. Imagine someone on here owns a retail or service type business, their opinion might alienate customers that do not share the same opinion. Let's make that more understandable for you...pretend you own a pet watching business, 75% of villagers are Republican and many of them own pets, how many potential customers would your anti Trump TMZ quality posts offend? Your business could suffer if they do not share your opinion. People do not need to sign thier real names to posts on here...I hope you can grasp that point.

We had two of the worst candidates ever for our Presidency....two of the absolute worst, and in my heart, I think most know that....YET they still go their corners and instead of voicing desire for morals and honesty, they will defend one or the other...NEITHER CANDIDATE deserved to be a candidate for anything. We are digging a hole based on untruths and lying...we are are accepting of bizarre dishonest behavior, and that will come back to haunt us all....conservative, liberal, progressive, alt right....whatever. While dishonesty, etc might serve your immediate need it will being us down.

Then to come on any forum allowed for political discussion and use it NOT for that purpose but to disseminate hate for other americans, and now hearing it is even being taken to the main board is simply more than disappointing

We would be happy to discuss things with you, but almost every post of yours is a book long...and you try to force us to read what you have decided we must read. You can't just copy and paste a couple sentences and then provide a link if we are interested in reading more...it is paragraph after paragraph followed up with paragraphs of old man jibberish...what man today says "I know in my heart"?

I think one candidate, Trump, was a dandy of a candidate (old man talk for you there). I liked his message of closing our borders, repealing Obammacare, and quit supporting the lazy. If you don't like that stuff, don't waste your vote again on an independent 4 years from now!

I do agree with your sentiment that disagreements in here have no place on the general forums.

Most of my posts are long. Reason is I read a number of articles, etc on any issue, and try to share with other posters. I force nobody to do anything, by the way..however,

As you also know, I check what people say and check their links. So many posters on here read the most bizarre website, with reputations, on both "sides" as fake and/or Russian backed. Nobody should, or should be allowed to utilize false, made up information.

What is the sense of any forum if the information being "shared" is flat out false ?

Nobody has to read my posts...but be assured those posts have been researched factually, and be assured I will call out thOne who lie, support lying. It is one thing to have different opinions....it is totally different to lie or promulgate lies.

Sorry if it bores you. I have tried hard to begin threads based on what is actually happening in the world which is what I expect.

It is frustrating to try to do that and be met with a name calling or people who find factual posting to be boring.

By the way, it takes time, reading and checking to see lies, except honestly on here. So many use sites like Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, Zero Hedge or similar sites which are not only based on lies, they build on them

The President who loves these conspiracy theory sites is now on the defensive because of buying into one of those theories. If we REALLY want America to be great, it better be based on TRUTH

The design of the website fails to protect the screen name of the "guest" All you have to do is click on the green quote button, then scroll down and all of the names are listed with their posts. If the moderator could remove that feature then some degree of anonymity would be retained.

Are you happy that you have a reputation as you do ? Even though it is on a computer, you would think at some point...simple self respect might kick in.

I hope that the Moderator is taking notes about posts by Affald. He is on my Ignore List which covers the Political Forum but that post sure looks like one of his vile personal attacks which has little connection with the facts.

You can also probably thank affald for this thread as he/she started attacking me on two other threads on the Regular Section-- one in movies and one on Just for Fun yesterday and this morning. There is a small group on here who enjoy posting personal attacks on people often with little or no connection to the facts. These are meant to upset their targets and have little relevance to anything. That was Donald Trump's tactic in his campaign and even now with attacks on President Obama that have little evidence if any at all.

The Moderator should be doing his or her job and removing posters who make these kind of personal attacks especially if they are showing up on non Political Forum threads such as affald has been doing of late.

And there are limits to what should be even posted on the Political Board and affald has crossed that line IMHO with that statement that my parents hate me. That is way beyond decency, etiquette, proper social discourse or anything else. For anything moderated, that should be grounds to suspend his or her posting privileges indefinitely.

He/she should be off of Talk of the Villages permanently.
