Saddest Thing In TV

Just witnessed the saddest thing ever-A male Mallard duck was on lawn-and starring into the street, & not moving, while his mate lay dead in the middle of the street-tee times are not that important -slow down

So I'm assuming you witnessed the vehicle hit the duck, and knew it's driver was speeding to make a tee time?

And for that matter, knew the other duck was it's mate.
Still sad however

DonH57 03-13-2017 07:51 AM

That is sad. I've witnessed canadian geese do the same. I wonder if they were a couple, newly met ? I wonder if maybe the other duck pushed it into traffic for a hidden reason? Maybe it was the duck's ex?

Cisco Kid 03-13-2017 07:53 AM

Maybe the duck committed suicide.

The birds usually get out of the way pretty quickly. It is the turtles, foxes, cats, bobcats, coyotes and especially the loose pets (dogs usually) that I really worry about hitting in the golf cart or the car.

I have heard of numerous pets (dogs) getting hit by golf carts. Some survive but some were hurt so bad that even when they heal they are very different dogs. Often a lot meaner.

There is a dog named Sammy who got run over by a golf cart and dragged. Scraped up pretty badly. But he is still a very sweet little pooch. Then another dog had her hip broken when she was hit by a golf cart and she does not like other dogs all that much any more nor even people a whole lot.

I know I'm terrible, but that was funny.

Bonny 03-13-2017 09:08 AM

Why would anyone make jokes about this ? There really isn't anything funny about it.

Taltarzac725 03-13-2017 09:11 AM

Gallows humor. Depends on the group. Sometimes it is the only thing that gets you through in bad situation. I have met may lawyers and law students who love lawyer jokes, for instance.

Can't resist putting in my two cents. Please please please Harness your dogs into your golf cart. Tell your friends with dogs because they just don't think about it and I know they would be devastated when the dog flies out of the cart. I have personally seen horrible accidents. The one last week right on my corner did not involve a golf cart but a car not paying attention going to fast and a dead dog. No details I don't have Permission and the owner is guilty and devastated though it wasn't his fault .

Just ask "Mr. Google" and "Mallard ducks do not mate for life and only pair up during the mating season". However, still too bad this happen.

Do ducks mate for life like swans?

inda50 03-13-2017 11:36 AM

Sad, sorry about the duck. Had one as a pet when i was a kid.

I have known this for a long time. Men and women find humor in different things.

Rarely do you meet a woman who enjoys The Three Stooges. Men don't rush home to watch Dr. Phil.

This has NOTHING to do with dressing children in unisex clothing.

Viva La Difference.

But for God's sake, mourn the duck. Wazzamatta you?

Rapscallion St Croix 03-13-2017 12:04 PM

While I do find this saddening, I do not consider it the saddest thing in The Villages. Have you seen some of the comb overs here?

We do what we can with what we have even if it looks ridiculous. Bald man with a duck tail.

Reiver 03-13-2017 12:39 PM

I ran over a cat on my bicycle once.
It's pretty much never the fault of the driver.

Sandtrap328 03-13-2017 02:27 PM

...last year, one of the regular TOTV posters got on my case when I posted that I stopped traffic on a street to let a mother duck and her babies safely cross the street.

Some people! :cus:

My take on what Chatbrat said was that something as trivial as a tee time becomes insignificant in the face of the greater issues of life and death.

My friend, while running, saw a dead duck in the middle of Grenadier St. in Tamarind Grove this morning before daylight, and another duck (assumed to be mate) standing beside it.

I wonder if it was the same place.

Chatbrat 03-14-2017 02:45 AM

Same place

Chatbrat 03-14-2017 06:23 AM

The only person they're kidding is themselves--natural hair reacts to effects of the dun, rugs do not

Years ago I used to wear a rug--my wife ripped off my head & tossed out the car window on the NJ Turnpike

And a muskrat stood on the side of the road in mourning?

my friend also was saddened. It was before light. She didn't have her phone, and all the houses on the street were dark, so she didn't want to ring any doorbells. She ran home and called Community Watch.

It must have happened before 6:00 am.

I don't know why an earlier poster assumed you saw the vehicle that hit it. A rash assumption, IMO. Also, it could have been killed by another animal.
