They're back!
The Spring Braakers are back. And no trouble knowing it. I went from West end of Pinellas to Sarasota this morning and saw a lot of trash along the trail. Much more than usual!
So, you are of course going to ask how I know it was the spring breakers. Well, when I later went to Brownwood, and just as I was entering the the tunnel after Eisenhower, a cart came. charging out of the tunnel going the opposite way accompanied by shrieks of laughter and a soda bottle went flying from the passsnger side into the vegetation. As I went through the tunnel, I ran over a soda can. I wasn't able to turn around to talk to the offenders. I guess it is an annual right of passage we have to bear each year. But, where are the parents and grandparents in this? You would expect the kids to be schooled in proper behavior when visiting here. |
What's a Braaker ?

We passed two on the way back from Spanish Springs. The first one was at the Morse/Paige Place roundabout going the wrong way. The second crossed El Camino to get to the MMP, rather than going down to/through the tunnel, then ran a stop sign.
I really want to stop them and say "you're going to die, and you will take someone out with you!" Either that, or buy a paintball gun and start marking their carts. Maybe color coded paint balls... |

Two of them rolled a golf cart yesterday & one of them got a broken leg--some people are idiots, especially the grandparents who lend their golf carts @ a blink of an eye, they are not toys, and combined when you don't know the lay of the land and rules of the road--they are doubly dangerous-And they have a high center of gravity & will roll over with very little provocation

Be extra careful when crossing the golf cart paths in your car. A while ago, 4 teenagers in a cart crossed in front of us without looking or stopping. They were all screaming and laughing. It looked like maybe they were playing chicken.
Please, grandparents, if you are going to let them drive your carts, insist on going with them first, at least once, maybe twice. Be responsible for making sure those teenagers understand that this is not really Disney World, no matter what they have heard. I guarantee that many of them will roll their eyes when you insist on a little driver's ed class. So what? You can't expect teenagers to know everything, even though they often think they do. |

These are familiar refrains from the first day one arrives in TV and they will continue long after we are all gone.
would like to believe that I am blameless but admit periodically some misjudgement or mistake , never intentional though:D |

I only noticed 1 light beer can on the path yesterday. |
Are these the Spring Breakers from college or just local kids who have the week off???

Hope the adults have plenty of liabilty insurance. It is their golf cart - it is their liability. |

Gee, reading the headline, when you said they're back, I automatically thought of love bugs. So, which is worse: visiting kids or love bugs?

I understand the Lifelong Learning College is planning to offer a course called "Making Mountains out of Molehills" as soon as they find an instructor who knows American Sign Language.

Any kid that spends spring break with grandparents is a "loser"

There are many people who throw their trash along the road. I see beer cans, cigarette butts, liquor bottles, food containers, etc., all the time. One bad spot is the small catch basin next to the gray cart bridge at the Morse So. Gate House. Someone is using that to throw their plastic water bottle in on a regular basis. Thankfully, someone has taken the time to clean those bottles out, but more are being thrown in. Such a shame, but unless people are caught and fined, very little can be done to stop it. That's why I always keep plastic bags in my cart and occasionally do "trash runs" to pick trash up along areas where I travel. It helps to balance out the 'nasty' ones who have no conscience or concern for the environment, keeps our beautiful home looking nice, and I get a little exercise in the process. :-D

I am not sure why you would blame "TV" for this. It seems foolish to me to hire people to police kids who are only here for a short time, but I am a very conservative person with money. The real truth is that 15 people have died here in The Villages in the last nine years due to Golf Cart accidents and dozens have been injured, many seriously. They aren't toys and shouldn't be given to kids to play with. It took most of us several months to learn our way around and master some of the challenges of this big place driving a golf cart. I really do believe that many of these accidents were due to drinking and some of them due to inexperience driving ANYTHING and a few were due to people who had lost their regular license for any number of reasons. THIS TO ALL READERS; Just remember how much you love these kids and do everything you can to protect them, and to protect the rest of us. |
