Orlando Airport directions

Looking for the best way to and from, will be leaving from the Wildwood side. This will be at night, Thanks.

Google maps

If you have a smart phone, install google maps. I use it for all of my travel. It takes you to your destination easily and clearly. It even speaks the directions so you don't have to look at your phone while driving. It's like a Garmin only better!!

301 S to Florida Turnpike S, to 528 E---takes you right to airport entrance in about 1 hr

trueorange 03-29-2017 09:54 AM

I agree with golfing eagles, easy to get to airport, but be sure to either have your Sun Pass with you or take lots of single dollar bills for the tolls. Not too expensive, but the tolls can be annoying.

rjm1cc 03-29-2017 10:17 AM

Since you have a computer you can try google earth or a maps program for suggestions. Also go to the airport site and they should have maps and instructions on parking garages etc. Be sure to know what gate you plane leaves from and the parking that relates to that area.

villagetinker 03-29-2017 10:43 AM

Also, you have at least 2 shuttle options if you do not want to drive, Villages transportation, Villages Taxi, I agree with the above comment about the tolls, we bought a sunpass.

NYGUY 03-29-2017 08:51 PM

Yes Google Maps or any other GPS App will get you there.

And the best part is that FDOT has removed the SunPass station...right before the airport exit! :a040:

If you have SunPass, you used to have to go from the far left SunPass lanes and then quickly cut across the lanes of those coming out of the toll booth lanes on the right...so you didn't miss the exit.

Northerner52 03-30-2017 05:32 AM

Publix sells sunpass readers for $5.

upstate 03-31-2017 08:58 AM

Thanks for all the replies, I thought there may be a shorter way then using a GPS. Taking the turnpike to 528 worked great, I didn't want to have someone else pick her up since the flight arrived at 1am. Someday I'll break down and get a Sun Pass, thanks again.

It's not that big a deal. You'll need $3 for a toll about 15 miles after you get on the Turnpike, just before Clermont. There's a second toll of $1 when you exit. Total $4.

Florida tolls. Florida's Turnpike toll calculator.

"Publix sells sunpass readers for $5."

Only $5? At Sunpass website, it is $19.99. Are we talking the same thing, the transponder?

jimmemac 03-31-2017 02:46 PM

The $5 one is good only on one car for as long as you own it(glues on and is not transferable to another car, sell it and it is done. The other is for a transponder that may be put on more than one vehicle that you own

Agree. This is a major safety improvement.

Maddie2009 03-31-2017 02:52 PM

They both work the same? Can by 2 for 2 cars, still cheaper..

So how long does the $5 one last day, week, month? Or so many toll booth passes?

FAQ does not differentiate these two kinds.

The $5 is to buy the unit. You then go online and register the unit, enter your vehicle info and credit card number, and they will charge your CC $25 and put that into your account. Then each time you go through a toll plaza, the subtract the toll from your account. When the balance in the account gets low, they will replenish it from your CC. Some states give a discount for using their systems vs cash, not sure about FL, but its all about convenience. I feel its worth it even if I only go to the airport once or twice a year. Also works @ the airport parking garage.

Actually...it does.

2. How much does it cost to use the SunPass system?

A: The SunPass Portable transponder costs $19.99 plus tax and the SunPass Mini Sticker transponder costs $4.99 plus tax (all out of state customers are required to pay a flat 6% sales tax).

Transponders are available online at SunPass.com and at all authorized SunPass retailers. Both units allow motorists to have tolls electronically deducted from a prepaid account. Both require a minimum opening balance of $10 for a personal account.

Commercial accounts have a different opening balance. Please contact the SunPass Customer Service Center to inquire about a commercial account and determine the opening balance required.

In essence, $5 buys you a permanent sticker and $19.99 buys you a transponder with suction cups...that can be moved from one vehicle to another.

The purchase price does not include a balance to pay the actual tolls...you have to register and add money to your account for that.

On Edit: I see Smurphy answered the question also.

Maddie2009 04-01-2017 09:27 PM

Thank you. $5 works like a transponder, but it's not portable, but cheaper than the transponder.

Actually, BOTH are 'transponders.'

One is permanently attached...the other portable.

Both need to have money added to the account to use...based on the serial number of the transponder.

Florida does give a discount. It seems that the percentage varies, depending on the toll plaza. Looking at our account activity it appears that it is roughly anywhere from about 4% to 9%.

Several times a month we go to Orlando or Melbourne (to visit our son) and we feel that it definitely is much more convenient than waiting in line. There have been several times when the cash lines were backed up a long way and we just drive straight through. There are quite a few toll plazas where you don't even have to slow down when going through the SunPass lanes. Well worth the $5 in our opinion.
