Another Golf Cart Stolen
 

The online newspaper reported another golf cart stolen, this one on the historic site...the 4th on the same night (Mar 25th).

Is it just me or are we having a drastic increase in golf cart thefts? Why?

Did those fool judges let those guys out?

Probably a ring. Easy to steal the carts left in carports or anywhere else outside. I have faith in our Sheriffs. They caught a couple of guys who stole a few carts. They'll catch this group when they come back for more if not before.

our neighborhood group had someone from Sheriffs ofc speak last week and he said there's a rash of Yamaha cart burglaries. So those of you with that brand, be extra careful.

Its the drug epidemic--people are desperate for $ to feed their habit-car break ins--IMHO, we are easy targets & we represent

Update...Thursday...Apr 6th...according to the online newspaper, 2 more golf carts stolen...both Yamahas. One from MVP in Brownwood, one from Stonecrest.

did the say if the Yamahas were 2017 or older. Because the 2017 have a different key ignition, the older ones have a standard key. Unless they were stolen by trailer truck and that would stick out.

Also, the Brownwood thief seems odd, was it late at night?. I ask because McAllister's deli is packed in the afternoon and people sit outside, however MVP area is usually empty and MVP has windows facing the roads, so many people can see.

I hate to think Brownwood isn't safe.

I am surprised Sumter county doesn't use decoy carts to see who is doing this.

My Yamaha 2012.5 was stolen at Brownwood last August. Never found it. I now own a Par Car and had a kill switch installed. I hope they catch and severely punish these bast...ds.

Prior to the Villages in Sumter county they had a very small tax base, one full time and a couple part time police, than came The Villages. The tax base went up 800 times, no new schools required and they increased the police and fire budgets 300 fold. In this "city" of 120,000 we have a huge tax base very limited school requirements, and lower other services when compared to cities this size elsewhere in the country. We also have a very low crime rate. If Sumter county wants to keep that size police force, we the voters do have choices, than they should do everything possible to make this place completely crime free. They have a budget large enough to protect a city twice this size and should have every crime resolved ASAP. Go look at cities this size all over the country and look at police budgets, number of officers, and compare it to here.

I am not trying to say we shouldn't have that size police force, am just pointing out that if we do, they should not be out here doing traffic stops when we have other more serious crime. They should be all over this type crime and any others that happen. We are the goose that has laid them a golden egg and we do vote at a very high % of residents. I don't mind paying for more police if they get results. But if they don't, I would not hesitate to slash their budget to be more in line with the rest of the US for a size for size city.

Surveillance cameras should be installed in all Villages parking lots--Walmart has them--we should have them--great deterrent,also--anytime you see a golf cart on a trailer--take note of the license tag-turn it into the Sheriff

But, traffic stops are the very reason many criminals are apprehended.

How about just putting cameras on every single street...and looking at the front of every house?

The more the villages expands into have not territory, the more the crime rate

55,000 golf carts in TV alone.... 4 stolen. Agree one is too many but risk is inherent in living and as the general area grows so does the degree of risk. How much time and expense should be devoted to issues like this as opposed to other crimes, etc.? Police can't be everywhere and do everything.

In most places a stolen car, or in our case a golf cart, wouldn't even be in the news.

Most all have camera phones. Be alert of anyone loading a cart and snap a picture if it seems suspicious.

Every community has crime. I have no stats to back me up , but I feel that TV has very little crime.

I had my car stolen once in CT and I was not a happy camper.

The police do a good job of catching people.

I agree that is probably fueled by the drug epidemic and low wages in this area. A quick couple grand by stealing a newer golf cart is sure an incentive to get into this business. A kill switch only works some of the time. Just as easy to push the cart onto a flat bed while it is parked in one of the lots. There are probably a number of rings in the area. Two ways to combat this... register all golf cart vins and the Villages should seriously consider cameras in the big parking lots, such as, by MVP, grocery stores, by the Squares, etc. place them up high so the thieves won't notice. just sayin....

Who buys these carts from the thieves?

I am not sure if the Sheriff can do anything about it. I reported a license tag that drove in the wrong direction on a one-way street and was told I had to give the name of the driver. This was in Florida.

There are no vin #'s--these carts could be sold on Craig's list, or any golf cart dealers lot, in any state

Where is the serial number on a Yamaha golf cart?
The serial number is located near the drivers side rear tire underneath the golf cart. The Yamaha G2 began production in 1985 and the serial number can be located in one of two places. Either under the seat towards the front of the golf cart, or under the front bumper on the frame of the golf cart.

A VIN number identifies the same as a serial number but unless a grinder was used there is a identification number on each cart. Thank You.:clap2:

Well a little prevention goes a long way...I have a 50' length of 3/8" hardened chain and 2 padlocks in my cart. Every time I park it (even to just run in for a second); I run the chain through all 4 wheels, through both arm rests and the steering wheel. I then wrap it around a tree or fire hydrant. To this day, my cart has never been stolen!

My wife gets a little aggravated with the amount of time I spend finding a parking spot that will accommodate this procedure, and she gets annoyed at how much time I spend chaining or un-chaining, but I assure her it is definitely less time than it would take us to walk home drunk.

One time I thought our cart was stolen, but she remembered we had parked in a different lot...

One evening at Sumter Landing I saw a cart with a wheel boot attached to the FR tire. It was a little mini version of the boots you might see in urban areas used to impound or repo an automobile.
My first thought was that it was being repo'd, but then I thought it was for theft prevention.

Pretty slick.

We noticed a whole lot more people leaving their carts outside their homes at night almost like bait. Sort of make you wonder if these wise owls I'm surrounded by have a plan. And that was a compliment. Can't wait to see the outcome.

Another Golf Cart Stolen
 

I know a spot in Brooklyn when we were kids when if you needed to get your car stolen, it would get stolen. Of course we took two cars and partied back home in one. [emoji3]

If you want your cart recovered A GPS tracker is 89.00 and a service fee of 9.00 a month. Is it worth it to you? Most people don't think so. It will tell you the address where the cart is any LEO would love this level of detail. It is like a Christmas gift to them. Here you go, there are the Theives!

Since I wired the GPS on a yamaha,I saw how the ignition was wired. I can drive any of them away in less than 90 seconds. Chain, kill switch, club all work. Tracker is the least obtrusive if you have a spouse who doesn't want to perform the same security measures.

Bulldog security for preventing theft of golf carts?
 

I just bought a Bulldog security system for my golf cart, but haven't installed it yet.
A neighbor saw one installed on another cart in the Villages recently, and told me about it.
The company seems to have gone out of business, but these are available on ebay and other places.

I got mine on ebay for $19.99.+ $6. shipping.
It has one wire lead that attaches
to the + battery, and an alarm that makes a loud noise if anyone messes with your cart.
It comes with a fob similar to a car fob, with buttons to activate the alarm etc. We (with same neighbor)
have tried installing it, but haven't figured it out yet.
Please does anyone know about installing
these devices? Thanks in advance.

I want a security device on my golf cart that if a person attempts to steal it, it will fling dog poop all over them.
