Statehood
The following is tongue-in-cheek and not intended to be taken seriously, But seriously! A few more land purchases like those of the last few months and The Villages could apply for statehood!(LOL). However, I am not sure if everyone wants to change our form of government from a monarchy to a democracy.

The Republican attempts at gerrymandering, to include all of the scattered portions of 'Morris World' as a single voting district...will be coming soon. :ho:
|
With every breath of every body never ever support TV becoming incorporated or run or managed by the residents.
NEVER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
If you study history you will see that a monarchy (benevolent or not) is obsessed by order and similarity. Why? - because it is then easy to spot non-conformity, which, to a monarch is very threatening. It does not take a microbiologist to see that the houses in The Villages are scarily similar; that your address posts are lined up as straight as the graves in a national cemetery, that your easements are the same as your neighbors, whether the need is obvious or not.
So even with Republican gerrymandering, I doubt King Morris would willingly give up his throne. He shudders at the thought that his kingdom will fall into the chaotic, but free world of democracy. |

So, what you are saying is, I should have mentally agreed with every aspect, rule, attitude, etc. that is part of the "VILLAGE EXPERIENCE", before I decided to move here. The fact is, that when I was considering moving here, I saw and felt the camaraderie of the neighborhoods, the wonderful variety of activities, the beauty of our roads and golf courses, etc. Your absurd argument would have me ignore these positives, simply because I felt “some” of the covenants were unnecessarily restrictive; and my objection to few immutable restrictions, made me better qualified to be a resident of Compton, The South Bronx or Eastside Chicago. Really Nice.
By the way, your comments about “reside with your own kind,” and “double dimwit”, reflects more on your close-mindedness, than on my social status and mental acumen. |

Your comment reflects your inability to understand 6 letter words or larger; your reasoning skills to be on a par with an amoeba; and a social tolerance akin to "Mein Kampf". I am ashamed that I have to call someone with your bigotry and intolerance a Village neighbor.

There are a number of Chump Cultists that with their lying, plagiarism, racism, bigotry, misogyny and blind loyalty to whatever Trump does/says...you will be inundated with that which you've mentioned. :ohdear: Any facts, truths or criticisms of Trump will quickly be met with 'Obama this, Hillary that,' which is their intellectual equivalent of... "I know you are, but what am I?" BTW - A quick way to identify these people is to hit the 'quote' button in any post, scroll way down...and the last 10 or so posts will have their user name next to their post. You'll soon get to the point, where you could almost make the posts for some of these simpletons...before they even post. :D Your exchange is with one of the worst ones here...hence 'Dirtbanker = Dirtbag.' :ho: |

READ any of the posts on this site. Do you think you could get these people to AGREE to anything as simple as replacing flowers. WHEN TO WATER-read the golf thread. Dogs, bikes, golf carts etc etc. What you have, what you see or perhaps don't see, this place is very well managed. |
I thought the administer, should remove insulting remarks from a thread, and suspend the offending commentator. I think "dirtbag" and "double-dum Dave" should qualify for this rule.

There are a number of people living here who have moved around the nation often. I wonder how many of them have experienced there, the wide divide between village residents that seems to exist on this Board.
For as long as I can recall the dichotomy concerning The Villages of Lake-Sumter, Inc ( TVLSI) ( Developer) has been here and it has been nothing less than surprising. I suppose the reasons why vary as much as do the number of residents. To my way of thinking there is no difference between this Developer, Trump or any other Developer. Their goal is marketing in order to make huge profits and doing so at the lowest possible expense to increase net income. As a business they will shift their financial and tax burdens to others. My only interest is in how they go about their business transaction and for only one expressed purpose and that is how does it affect me financially? I pass no judgment or foregone conclusions because this is a gigantic enterprise and not a person and so it isn't personal its business. Some residents do not understand and thus misinterpret a resident's questioning as being anti-developer. Yet every single day on this board people ask questions about contractors, doctors, etc and no one says gosh you hate that contractor. i find your inquiry to be suspicious and filled with confirmation bias, jealousy, etc. Hmmmmmmmmmmm Sentimentality, affection, loyalty etc do not fit within such a structure because while you may love a company it will not love you back. Love or leave is simply harder as we age Personal Best Regards: |

1. As to the residents running this place? Read these posts. It would be the inmates running the insane asylum. 2. As to minimizing taxes, jealousy etc. We all want but, no one wants to pay. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN SO. Mortgage interest tax deduction is considered sacred. WHY? Even in Cain's flat tax proposal, actually a copy of what was suggested by Steve Forbes, Cain was going to keep the mortgage interest tax deduction. SO MUCH FOR A FLAT TAX. 3. THIS IS THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY. Did you see opportunity or did you spend your life BITCHING about others who not only saw opportunity BUT MORE IMPORTANT-acted on it. THE VILLAGES-This place is a classic of BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME. Be honest, ALL YOU COMPLAINERS, did you see the potential of this place? This area was poor quality land-CHEAP and the Morrises turned it into a gold mine. NO I AM NOT ON THE FAMILY TREE. I did choose to live in what they created. AS TO OPPORTUNITY-When we bought mortgage money was 3.5% and that is before the deduction which brings it down to, 2.45 for most of us. You could have taken that money, for those of you who bought and paid cash, and invested it in dividend champion stocks paying 4% dividends with a maximum tax of 15%. I don't think it has ever been a clearer choice. Our LIBERAL government created this opportunity. It is simply insane that they cannot legally deny a mortgage to someone based on age. So at 70 they must issue you a 30 year mortgage. Simple math-you will be 100 when the mortgage is paid off. SELF RELIANCE IS FREEDOM. SELF RELIANCE IS POWER. WHEN, YOU RELY ON GOVERNMENT-YOU GIVE UP BOTH POWER AND FREEDOM. SIMPLE STATEMENT OF WHY I DID NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA AND WHY I DID NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY. PROUD TO BE DEPLORABLE. |
I have lived in several, planned, gated, covenant restricted communities. Yes, it was developed by a business whose purpose was to make money. The main difference between those communities and The Villages is that, the developers of my prior communities LEFT when the community had been built out. As they left they put "The Covenants" in the hands of a HOA.
The "bitchers” now had an organization they could bitch to. Moreover, the HOA is their neighbors and because my old communities were much smaller than The Villages, everyone knew everyone. So, bitching was phrased with less vehemence. And, because of that familiarity, they know their "bitch" would be heard and pondered upon. In most cases the committee voted in favor of the covenants, but, on occasion a "bitch" became an amendment to the covenants. In the Villages, the developer will never leave. Yes, I know, that, as a village is built out, the developer gives "control” to the CDD. But, the CDD’s are hamstrung by the Covenant requirement to be in line with higher authorities – the alphabet soup of super-committees that I do not have the time nor law degree to figure out. However, to me, much of their operations is influenced by the behind the scenes string-pulling of the mysterious Morse’s. Even if this is not true the perception is. I THINK THAT IS THE UNDERLYING, SUBCOUSIOUS “BITCH” IN ALL “BITCHES” – DISENFRANCHISEMENT. I have been told, “I should have read all the fine print” before I bought in The Villages, I challenge anyone to point out, where, in the myriad closing documents, that this "shadow" power exists and has control over parts my life. The Morse’s have created a community of physical beauty, and I love living in it, but it is scary to find out that some of my "love-it-or-leave-it" neighbors have been morphed into true-believers of a sect whose core belief is "All Morse rules are inviolate and immutable". I asked my wife the other day, when are we are to be given the indoctrination that will turn us to into these "Stepford Seniors"? |

Bet they had little to no minorities, all or mostly white? The two ALWAYS go hand in hand. I'm just the messenger...I didn't make them different...but they are and pretending they aren't is dragging the country down. |
To your questions:
1. Yes. 2. True. 3. I guess so. I have not seen all gated communities in the country. There is one in Atlanta that seems to be the preferred living location for most of the pro sports figures in the city (most of which are obviously black). Even then Blacks are no where near a majority in hat community. Each of the communities I lived in had black residents, representing about 5% of the population. In my experience, every black family in my communities was well respected, and freely invited to private social events. One was even elected club president. I have never heard of a real estate agent steering blacks away from my communities. However, I do believe there is a cultural and social divide, initiated by Roosevelt's social programs of the 1930 which lead to the disintegration of black families. Your response implies that the divide has always been there and that both whites and blacks are in denial of the divide. Perhaps you are right. I will freely admit that I am one of them. I enjoy my life in The Villages. And the presence or absence of blacks in our community is not an everyday problem for me. I will conclude that, I hope courageous leaders in both camps of color, will arise and inspire all to unify all Americans in their views of their fellow citizens. |

You find something that 90% of blacks can do that only 6% of white men or 3% of women can do well. I'll wait... |
Maybe not enough for a state, but possibly a territory. We already have a population larger than Guam, US Virgin Islands and American Samoa.
