Metro Diner on 466

Wonder when the Metro Diner (going in were Perkins was on 466) will open. I see they are advertising for help already.

Metro Diner is a really good chain of diners and the ones I've been in are well worth a visit.

The Metro Diner

A diner? A real diner? Not like Daryl's, I hope (ugh).
Where they bake glorious cakes and make other delicious desserts?
Like a Jersey diner?
If so, I'm salivating already!

It looks like "real" diner food!
I hope what I'm reading tastes as good as it all sounds.

Thanks for posting it. :icon_hungry:

deano_hoosier 05-12-2017 07:10 PM

Metro Diner is a bit further than Bob's. More upscale, eclectic, but only so much you can do with a breakfast and lunch menu. Diners, Dive-ins, and Dives hasn't done a Bob Evans so far.

graciegirl 05-12-2017 07:22 PM

I like Bob Evans. It is decent mid-west food. Ohio food. Mashed potatoes and gravy and dressing (sometimes called stuffing) Wonderful very fresh salad and great house sweet poppy seed dressing. Very good pies. And very nice servers, many older and just excellent.

I hope the new company that bought it won't mess it up.

Based on that menu its not worth the gas to drive there. That isnt a real greek diner. Just more slop for those from the prarie who don't know better.

How would this be classified as a Greek diner. Looks more Diner food than Greek. Curious have you eaten at one so you can tell us that the food is slop and not worth the gas driving.

Not dressing but Stove Top stuffing with packaged gravy mix! No wonder they closed!

If the food is as good as it looks on the website, you won't be able to, as we say in Arkansas, "shake a stick" in there for awhile; it'll probably be crowded. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Bob Evans company didn't close. They were purchased by another group. Bob Evans dressing/stuffing is yummy.

Nothing ever changes. A place is criticized before it even opens the doors for business.

I would first try it and then pass judgement.

Everybody has an opinion on what they consider is good food. The restaurant business is tough as some people think they should cook, as their mother did for them.

Gpsma is referring to the fact that most diners in the ny/nj area are run by greeks....there is a great diner in Orlando called Angel's Diner. i hope the new one will be comparable. and there IS a greek salad! :)

I'm hoping they don't mess it up either and ruin it but, unfortunately when owners change so does the product. I've witnessed it here in the villages with the country clubs.

Their menu has Guy Fuieri's pix on it. Isn't that going in at Honest John's Tavern?

What's odd is in the Baltimore area we had a chain of diners called Double TT Diners. They have 8 locations operated by two Greek brothers and we ate at them many times. The food didn't seem any different than BoB Evans type food, they were a little more plush inside like a fancier restaurant. They were also usually a little more expensive so we ate at Bob Evans more often. The only odd or different thing was they had a liquor license and you would see a setup bar with bottles and glasses, which I thought was strange in a breakfast place.

They were all very nice inside and out, just like the old time diners but built new.

Metro Diner in The Villages was planned back in 2015 and I would guess that it was probably the cause of Perkins leaving and not the effect.

Good, can't wait for it to open......Breakfast is our favorite meal.

marianne237 05-14-2017 06:50 PM

is this new place going to be open all day or only breakfast and lunch?

I enjoyed Perkins for dinner often.

On their website they list all their locations by state. Here's a link to their Florida locations and each store has it's hours and menu for you to see online. Just a quick glance at a Orlando location shows hours as 7am to 8pm and Friday & Saturday as 7am to 9pm.
