DOJ Names Special Counsel On Russian Meddling

A lot of Republican lawmakers are breathing a sigh of relief that they don't have to keep trying to fake support for Trump...but I'll bet Chump and his hardcore supporters are apoplectic. :1rotfl:

The real winners though...are decent American citizens.

Robert Mueller appointed special counsel to oversee probe into Russia'''s interference in 2016 election

Quote:

The United States Department of Justice has announced that a special counsel has been appointed to investigate Russian interference into last year's presidential election and links or coordination with the campaign of President Donald Trump.

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller was assigned by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to "oversee the previously-confirmed FBI investigation of Russian government efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, and related matters."

While not expecting anything quickly from it (these things can drag out), the "related matters" portion...could become VERY interesting.

According to reports, the White House was only told about an hour before the announcement...but not 'consulted.'

So I guess this means that Rosenstein just got dropped off of Trump's Christmas list? :D

I was just thinking as I heard the statement from the White House.....if he had spoken like that...an adult,,,,,for the last year, we would never be where we are.

As Alan Dershowitz said yesterday...."if he just would keep his mouth shut"

Nobody knows what happened during the election...NOBODY, but this country needs to know.

We are not even treading water now. Trumps antics has cost the country, his goals and a lot more.

Let this thing go.....let the chips fall where they may. THIS WILL TAKE TIME BELIEVE ME, and Trump seems to have calmed down which he just has to do. 3 people have lost their job because of investigations, and let's hope our President grows up, acts like a man. If, in fact Comey testifies next week, he just has to deal with it. You get what you sow.

I seriously doubt, that Trump even has the capability...to keep his mouth shut.

If he could, he wouldn't be where he is now.

This may quiet him for a few days (albeit doubtful), his tendency to self-destruct in a whining and petulant manner, as displayed at today's Coast Guard commencement address (which was made before Mueller was announced)...will soon be back.

Is it really possible that Trump has only been POTUS...for less than 4 months? :ohdear:

Now we can sit back and watch the Trump Cultists start attacking/blaming Mueller, Rod Rosenstein, the Clinton's (both), Obama, the media, CNN, sun spots...and probably even Mickey Mouse. :1rotfl:

On a different note, given Trump's sharing of intelligence info with the Russians, the firing of Comey and now the seriousness of having a very competent and highly regarded investigator on the job...our allies can't help but be even now more reluctant to share their intel.

In other words, we are more vulnerable than in a long time in regards to terrorism threats...because of what we don't/won't know. :(

Wait a minute...

You blast Trump for "sharing intel" with the Russians...but you expect everyone else to willingly share their intel with us? WTF? Is that "liberal logic" or "woman logic", I can't tell. It sure isn't REAL logic. Do as I say not as I do?

Oh yes...we're REAL vulnerable...it's been 17 years since an outsider "terrorized" us. They were Saudi's too...and I don't see ANY sanctions against them. Why let in ANY middle easterners, any Muslims if you're worried about terrorism here. What kind of idiot lets in those who have proven themselves to hate you? Oh...right...the SAME idiots who fight for minority rights so they can eventually breed us out of our own country.

The "news" is all bullsh!t...just turn it off. It pits us against each other...while the minority majority slowly creeps up and WILL eventually destroy this once great...when it was white...country. You tell me...what ranking has improved since we started diversifying everything?

WHY doesn't the "news" report that Hispanics have the majority of children now? That Hispanics are the majority of young grade school children? That "America" is well on it's way to becoming Mexico II?

One cannot really dump on you for being ignorant. Point is that you talk out your @ss to hear yourself speak. No slur intended, just fact. You know absolutely NOTHING regarding the nature of how our gov. handles classified information. But, neither do most private citizens. If you did know something of which you speak, I am not sure whether or not you would still persist in your ignorant ranting. Logic does not seem to be relevant in your case.

The Latest: Trump assails naming of counsel as '''witch hunt'''
Quote:

President Donald Trump is assailing the naming of a special counsel as "the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!"

Trump is responding to the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to lead a probe of allegations that Trump's campaign collaborated with Russia to sway the election.

In another tweet Thursday morning, he claims, "With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special councel (sic) appointed!"

He did not provide examples or evidence of any alleged "illegal acts."

I am not ranting. What do you want to know.

I thought I spelled this out in another post, and even supplied as much reading material as I could find.

Very, very rigid and firm policies on when, to whom, how, who is in the room, etc.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 05-18-2017 07:55 AM

What are the hate mongers going to do when this independent investigator finds that there was no collusion by the Trump campaign team?

That's been the result of every other investigation.

What are they going to complain about when the president is found to be not guilty of any of these phony allegations?

I'm sure that their hate will drive them to find something else to complain about.

It's really a shame that this nonsense is slowing the progress that this country is making. But it doesn't matter. The president will press on and his agenda will get done.

Thank you. Good to hear from someone who actually knows how things work.

If the media is so concerned, why do they feel the need to blab to the whole world? Yes, we do have and need free press, so don't even start. I just think that it would be great IF THEY would take as much responsibility for our security as they do for being FIRST to "break" news. It seems that it really doesn't matter to them if anything harmful comes from it. Heck, that would just mean another "first".

Ok...let me be clear, and I have said it many times before.

Yes, the President can pretty much do what he wants, with whom he wants when he wants. Nobody denies that, nor has ever.

You are searching for a defense of a crime that never happened.

I speak of NORMAL ACCEPTED protocol, which this President in this case abandoned recklessly and with great peril to many people.

Protocol, which normal Presidents follow is to meet with national security to decide what to share of what they have. The participants in whatever meeting is to take place are then completely vetted. Keep in mind, one participant manages the Russian spy network, and remember US press was shut out at request of Putin.

After that exhaustive procedure, weight must be given and care taken to never reveal the source to anyone...in some cases outside the FiveEyes but certainly care in sharing. Then, you add the care taken to notify, especially outside the FiveEyes, the country from which you got the info. In addition, I would think an enemy like Russia would be on the DND list thus whatever we share with them we do so with the utmost of care and restraint.

I never referred to the military, only what is supposed to happen when sharing between countries.

You can shape this any way you want, it was a VERY VERY serious breach of protocol...it was VERY reckless and not something I recall ever being done in this manner.

I understand the source was Israel, not a FiveEyes country but a close and trusted ally. To share info with a common enemy for no reason, and with noconsultation is simply terrifying, and then to add to the information, reveal the source and town of origin is absolutely stunning.

I am well aware that many times the military disguises information. I can recall vividly the "first" Mid East crisis..I think in 1958, and I was aware of things that would happen, visiting my parents on a weekend and listening to my Dad complain of lack of action by the US. On Monday morning as the sun came up, the entire 6th fleet was sitting in the gulf as a show of power and support for Israel. That, to your point, took planning and was guarded from the press totally, along with many who were actually on the ships. Called my Dad Monday evening and I recall him saying how happy he was about it, but I allowed him to spend the weekend worrying.

You are speaking of something totally and completely divorced from the reckless behavior of Trump.

Rockyrd 05-18-2017 10:36 AM

Over the last one hundred plus days, as scandal after scandal broke, this forum, and Trumps tweets have chosen to blame the media, the democrats, all liberals, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama for all his woes.

I have been steadfast in telling you, ALL OF THIS lies at QHIS feet, and nobody else. He has been a crook and liar all his life, HOWEVER those actions only imperiled him or his company and nobody else. Making up fake names, accusing people of crimes were, in that world, simply "odd" behavior.

Now, he is affecting our country....this morning again, after a professional and adult response to a special prosecutor he is at it again.

ALL OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED....

"The appointment of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate possible Trump campaign collusion with Russian meddling in the election puts the Trump presidency in substantially greater peril than it was in only 24 hours ago. But, remarkably enough, this did not even have to happen at all — it only happened because the unhinged behavior of President Trump himself made it happen.

Yet it’s not clear that Trump’s less-than-vise-like grip on reality permits him to even grasp this.

Trump unleashed two tweets Thursday morning responding to the news of the appointment, which was made by Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein after days of deafening criticism. Trump claimed: “With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special councel [sic, or perhaps more appropriately, sick] appointed!” He then added: “This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!”

But, despite Trump’s suggestion that he is being victimized by a witch hunt, and that a more adept PR strategy could minimize the damage, this is a situation entirely of Trump’s own making. And each of Trump’s actions leading up to this moment are rooted deep in Trump’s autocratic and authoritarian impulses; his total contempt for basic institutional processes; and his tendency, when his sense of grievance strikes, to slip into a delusional belief that he can overwhelm the institutional independence of his persecutors the way he might steamroll someone in a business deal."

Trump is totally delusional about what’s happening to him right now - The Washington Post

I would rather be considered ignorant and not as an ass, such as yourself. I have no idea why you feel the need to constantly berate others who are not quite so informed as yourself, dare to voice an opinion that differs from yours, or do not take into account your superiority.

Yes, since the Attorney General Jeff Sessions has RECUSED himself with ANYTHING to do with the Russian investigation, the Deputy U.S. Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has the power to appoint a special prosecutor (or equivalent) to head the investigation.
