We need Halal

I'm hankering for some chicken and rice with white sauce/hot sauce.

Wonder if there is any place within a reasonable drive.

I don't need it.

Gpsma 05-23-2017 12:32 PM

But do you know what it is?

manaboutown 05-23-2017 12:37 PM

Reading about food makes me hungry. I am hankering for a BLT right now.

Exactly.

village dreamer 05-23-2017 12:48 PM

I don't think your going to find any halal/Arabic/muslim food anywhere near tv. maybe down in Orlando ???

Gpsma 05-24-2017 10:11 AM

I fear you are right. There seems to be just too many "meat and potato" eaters in TV. Im sure I can make the chicken and rice but the white sauce might be a challenge.

Why halal?

Halāl (Arabic: حلال‎‎ ḥalāl, "permissible"), also spelled hallal or halaal, refers to what is permissible or lawful in traditional Islamic law. It is frequently applied to permissible food and drinks.

Try Adam Halal Meats and Grocery in Orlando. From what I hear they have wonderful goat meat cut fresh daily. Ask them if they can obtain imported camel meat.

Used to have Urban Curry restaurant on Bichara Blvd...guess enough folks did not agree with the need for it.

redwitch 05-24-2017 01:17 PM

Search Google, several recipes for Halal white sauce there. Also, Amazon sells it in condiments. Hope you find a recipe you like.

Maria, I always think of Curry as Indian Food.

You, me and Wikipedia. It originated on the Indian subcontinent.

Curry - Wikipedia

BTW I love it!

Also I don't know if it is Halal and it certainly is not conveniently located to TV but the best leg of lamb I have ever eaten in my life - and I do eat lamb regularly - was at a Moroccan restaurant in Paris named Le 404. Restaurant Le 404 Paris 3eme - Moroccan Restaurant - Restaurant Marocain

Halal just means its kosher for muslims...and probably kosher for jews too.

Shame no one understands different cuisines here.

Sorry, but I need Kosher Muslim food like I need a 747 through my roof. Pass.

Common good street food in Manhattan.

Halal Cart-Style Chicken and Rice with White Sauce, a spot on rendition of the street food classic.

Marinated in oregano, lemon, and coriander, chicken thighs are browned, chopped into chunks and served over a pile turmeric-yellow rice. Of course, it wouldn't be halal-cart style without the ubiquitous (and none too fancy) salad of iceberg and tomatoes, and that mysterious sweet-sour-tangy white sauce that just has to be ladled all over the chicken and rice for true street-style authenticity.

With so few responses, does not mean no one understands different cuisines here. Finding a kosher market near TV not so much. So keeping Kosher is not easy for many.

Is there really such a thing as Kosher - Halal food? I think not. I'm going to stop here after some of the articles I've read.

It is hard to separate feelings about stuff. Those who have lived where there is a variety of food have different experiences from those who grew up in the heartland. I don't like sushi. Raw fish doesn't sound good. I never KNEW until I moved HERE how good an Italian meal cooked by an Italian in their home could be...that was a new experience for me. YUMMO.

We lived in Cincinnati near a mosque but there wasn't any mid-eastern food restaurants that served halal.. It is a big mosque too. Not one of those little store fronts but an impressive and beautiful building.

We had a lot of yummy Jewish Deli's.

I'll take issue with your post in just one way .... Those who have lived where there is a variety of food have different experiences from those who grew up in the heartland. It is not so much a matter of demographics, it is more an issue of travel and experiencing other countries and places. If all you know is your own little town and the people who have lived there for generations, then yes you have a small view of the world, but in this digital age there are many people who have been raised in the heartland who are now traveling for business and pleasure and are experiencing many different cultures and foods.

Many years ago we traveled with friends ... we were going to Europe and this woman had never been out of Lynn, MA. Her family and friends were all employed by GE and that is all they knew. She was absolutely terrified, but after the first trip we could not keep her down. She was not aware that the world is now flat!

I don't know. When it comes to adventure, I'll just stay with jumping off the dresser. We have taken down the swing. ;)

Halal places in Cincinnati Metro, Ohio - Zabihah - your guide to halal eating

Lots of halal restaurants in West Chester area. Hard to notice what you are not prepared to see or seek.

We've been here full time for five years. Times have changed. When we moved there they mostly graduated Ag Majors from Lakota Schools. Some changes are good, some not so much to my liking.

I wouldn't have any trouble finding one in Yemen either. Doesn't mean I would go there and eat.:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Gpsma 06-11-2017 11:50 AM

Golfing Eagle...its apparent you dont differentiate between the cuisine of some people and their politics....or perhaps, like many, you just aren't very adventurous with the foods you eat...and that is ok.

But seeing where you are from, it surprises me that you would never have had halal food. But please dont hold the cuisine of the middle east against the politics of the region...two different issues.

And to Gracie....i fully understand thathose from the hinterlands that may not have had the opportunity to travel, may have limited exposure to international cuisine. And that is no snub to the food of the hinterlands but it is a special benefit to living in an urban immigrant area to taste all they offer.

I'm not Mexico fan ( the country and way it's ran, for those that like to read between the lines), but I like most Mexican food, I was stationed in England with guy from morocco, had supper several times at his home and he always had Moroccan prepared food which I'm guessing had Arabia flavor. Most of it was very yummy, his wife and kids were very polite. I try to give people the benefit of doubt, until the prove me wrong.

you can pretty much find anything in Dearborn these days, from one of the best burgers with a coke in a glass bottle, hummus and pita, Mediterranean, and Indian food everywhere. My other half has food brought in from Dearborn once a week, never run out of something different

perrjojo 06-12-2017 11:10 AM

Wow! I see a lot of people making assumptions about people they don't even know all because of which foods they like.

Because it makes some folks feel superior which is why they like to post their interest in it . However the PC Bosses would tell those people that they are guilty of " Cultural Appropriation " .

How is using the term Halal suppose to make someone feel superior.

Clearly you have a limited understanding of what "Halal Chicken and Rice" is.....

If you like that kinda food. Calling the "fly over" states Hinterlands denigrates the area of the country in which many villagers were born. We personally find the middle area of the U.S. superior to the eastern and western edges.

And we do travel, Sir. You'd be surprised.
