Location of Shooters World Identified
The initial announcement said in the area of Brownwood.
An article in today's Daily Sun is more specific: "... completed lease negotiations last week to build a 50,000-square-foot retail store, shooting range and training facilities at the northeast corner of Powell Road and County Road 44A ..." This is an empty lot west of Perry Villas, between the villas and Powell Road. If you are familiar with that area, you know that there is a golf cart path which goes from Eisenhower Rec Center westward to "nowhere." Well, the cart path will lead to Shooters World. |
Thanks Champ :) I'll have too check it out when it open's. Even it's a long way too go from where I live in Springdale.

You can check "The Villages Straight Shooters Club" web site for updates.
|
A little off subject, but would like to know if anyone has purchased a gun at Shooters World in Tampa ? If so, are the prices fixed such as with Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain, or do they accept offers and " deal " ?
|
Not sure. If you are a member of The Villages Straight Shooters club, they give a discount. The club has bus trips there. Check the website.
|
If I try to take a golf cart that far , I'll forget why I'm doing it.......
|
I wonder how they will control the "sound level" from the range? It is very difficult to obtain a zero noise level. There are houses within a few hundred feet of that corner.
|
The Tampa location is in an old Circuit City building that has been expanded. I'm sure they added a lot of insulation along the way.

Seems like, from the north Villages it would almost be the same distance to the Ocala Forrest shooting range.
Has anyone been there? Opinions? Ocala National Forest - Ocala Shooting Range |

Tried once to visit that indoor range in the south Villages area. On a trip back from Tampa figured I would look and see. Got there about 15 minutes before closing but they had locked the place up and were leaving already. Did not seem very professional, never got to look at it. I have not heard good things about it. |
The range on 44 is an old range but it seems to do a pretty good business.....and I suspect that will continue if Shooters World gets too busy. It will also be interesting how many non-villages will be using Shooters World. There are probably enough guns here to keep both ranges busy.

drove by yesterday, only a sign. No actual work being done, oesnt appear it will be here anytime soon.

There are separate pistol and rifle ranges. You will not shoot on either range without supervision. |

What are the best days and times to go, least busy? |

I'm looking forward to going to OSA with the Straight Shooters soon. |

"...Ocala Shooting Range is open to the public when classes are not in session. It is unsupervised, so cooperation among shooters is a must! While backboards are provided, they must be maintained. Shooters should bring their own targets and tacks or staples, and those using the shotgun range should bring their own targets." Ocala National Forest - Ocala Shooting Range https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE...rdb5177758.jpg I haven't been back, but I would go again but not by myself. I've even read on message boards that when you go down range make sure you leave someone behind to watch your guns. I felt fairly safe, most people listened when someone was giving instructions and everyone got behind the line before others went down range. I just haven't had the time, or the people to go with, to make it back there. PS: Sorry for piling on. I was on page 2 reading when I caught the mistake and didn't see that Buzzy handled it himself, carry on. |
Thanks for the clarifications.
|
So, would I need a concealed weapons permit to transport my gun in my golf cart since there is no "trunk".
