Woodbury or Fenney - Woodbury wins
I posted a while back about trying to decide between these two locations. The cabana villas (wood frame/vinyl) we were interested in at Fenney weren't for sale yet. That happens next week. However we finally decided we prefer the cement villas at Phillips Villas in Woodbury. Everything is there now, groceries, a few restaurants (and a soon to be built Cody's) as well as the Mulberry Rec Center, health care and golf cart accessibility. The only disappointment we had was the house in Phillips we looked at on Tuesday and have been admiring online for a couple of months was listed as sold right before we were planning to call the realtor to tell him we would buy it. Such is life I guess. Anyway we found another one, a little more money of course, on an outside wall bordering designer homes (for a little extra privacy) that was almost as nice and we put a deposit down on it and will close at the end of the month. We talked to a couple of residents including our future neighbor about Phillips Villas and they absolutely love it. We're pretty excited. We'll soon be joining the ranks of Villagers although only part-time at first. Tough to convince the wife to go full-time with our children and grandchildren up north. Thanks again for all the helpful advice.

Enjoy and welcome.......remember you can grab some great flights north when the kid and grand kid need (or guilt) kicks in. Of course I'm sure they will be anxious to visit here....lots to do for the next generations.

Good for U Bruce :ho: We R just down the street in Springdale :welcome: This is a nice area to live...

These two choices are in different time zones, much less zip codes. However, you will be tickled pink with your selection. Congratulations. [emoji324]

Congrats ... the best is yet to come!

Fenney is something that is going to happen down the road, Mullberry is happening right now. At our ages, it more important for something to happen right now, who knows what tomorrow may bring. I believe you made the right choice, it's the one I would of made. We live in a masonry CYV and it is great!

In an unrelated topic, we are staying in the waterfront inn at Sumter. We rented a golf cart today and using the gps golf cart app we drove up to Mulberry Lane and Phillips Villas then drove to Spanish Springs and back to Sumter. Driving up to the Villas, we went through numerous neighborhood streets in what seemed to me to be a very indirect route. I think we could have gone Buena Vista all the way, correct? Would that make sense next time we are down here and want to drive the cart from our house to Sumter? |

Bruce, Congratulations on your purchase. The first time I rented in The Villages was a beautiful patio villa in the Village of Chatham near Nancy Lopez. Really liked that area, but there is not one part of TV that I don't like, or couldn't see myself living in. Enjoy your new home!

The golf cart app gives very weird directions. From Amelia Vlg off Odell going to Lake Sumter Landing the one time I used it had (and still does) tell you to make a left turn off Odell and then 3/4 mile out of the way in the opposite direction then 1 back to Odell 1 block below where it made you take the left after having you drive 3/4 miles through side streets. The app is a "nice try" but really is a fail.
It seems some areas are very poorly mapped and some areas are ok. It has never given me proper directions for where I live to anywhere. Fortunately I don't need it anymore. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Bruce welcome home. John I agree with Nucky. Please think about flying to the Cleveland Clinic. Number one heart hospital in U.S. and they fix 'em.

Fortunately Other than 1 trip from Amelia to somewhere near Brownwood I've never used it other than just to see where it would take me just for yucks, I've always been very entertained. After the first time I used it and it said it was 1800 miles from Amelia to LSL I pretty much gave up. I have another post in the gps forum about it from when I first moved in. I think the newer areas are just poorly mapped. Also the stability of the Android version is many times better than the iPhone version because the iPhone version consistently crashes on 2 different phones. The android version never crashes but directions (from here) are pretty useless. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Thanks everyone.
I agree with everyone re the gps app. We would be better off just looking at the map of the golf cart trails in the villages. We will do that next time. Unfortunately we are back in RI today. I'm still working until July 21st when I retire for the second time. Hasbro hired me back a year after my first retirement. Can't wait until sometime in mid August when my wife, Nancy, and our beagle, Ralphie, are back for an extended stay in our new courtyard villa. Getting excited about buying a golf cart which I will be researching in the weeks ahead. Things will look a little different then as the new Cody's will be taking shape as well as possibly a new commercial development (not sure if they know what that will be at this point) right in front of Phillips Villas. Many may know this already but I believe Phillips Villas was named after George Phillips, a Villages salesman, who was killed in a tragic highway accident a couple of years ago. |

To all the other posters wishing me well. I am doing well, that's why I go to the gym 5 days a week. I'm a little slower right now, but that because I tore my rotator cuff April 7th lifting weights and I'm just now starting to do some light weights. I do the treadmill about 70 minutes everyday. I feel good, no worries. |
What ever floats your boat. You are the only one that has to like your decision.
