SeriusXM Radio Special Offers

Our 3 mos free subscription to SeriusXM radio expired in May and they've offered us two special deals: 6 mos for $29 or 12 mos for $99.

Why would anyone not take the 6 mos deal or am I missing something? I'm guessing if I cancel at the end of 6 mos they'll come back with a similar offer. Does anyone have any experience with SeriusXM that would suggest these special offers are limited to a one time offer? For me it wouldn't matter if there's a lapse of service after 6 mos.

XM radio

I put a reminder on my calendar a couple of days before the expiration to call them. If you keep insisting you wish to cancel, eventually they offer the $29 for 6 months. I think they went thru 5 offers before I finally agreed. Been doing this for over 2 years.

Check out the U-Tube on how to handle SeriusXM, a man informs us how to get the price down. I have successfully followed his advice.

My experience with Sirius is that the $29/6 month offer has been an offer they have made since I first went with - in 2011

kstew43 06-18-2017 03:01 PM

We were offered that plan as well but it didn't come with the comedy channels, and I love the comedy and the 60/70/80, and thats pretty much it.

Just remember, if you forget to call them they WILL charge your credit card with the full annual rate of $240!

We got in so many fist a cuffs with Serius over pricing that we dropped them long ago and never looked back

jblum315 06-19-2017 05:30 AM

I had Sirius for several years and they never offered me any special deals. In fact with each renewal the cost increased

You simply have to call and ask them about any specials. I've done this annually since 2009

leftyf 06-19-2017 07:19 AM

We had them for many years before moving here. Now our car trips are too short to even consider Sirius anymore. We don't even miss it either.

I have had Serius XM radio in my cars for a few years. I have never liked the way they do business but kind of didn't think much about it because I do enjoy what they offer when I'm driving.

After MANY months of back and forth between my Visa credit card company, Capital One, and Serius XM, I won a fraud case for $600+. Serius XM repeatedly billed me for service on a car that I no longer owned! The incident isn't as cut and dry as I'm making it sound, however, and in the spirit of less boredom for you, I'm trying to shorten the scenario. There was much more going on than what I've written, but I think you can get the gist of what happened.

For everyone's benefit, I will tell you that they lie, will never get back to you when they say they will and have many different prices for the same service. It all depends upon your ability to bargain and I do mean strongly bargain.

My advice to you is to keep track of how much you pay them, when you pay them and for what duration of time. If you do not cancel, they will keep billing you at the highest rate.

Throughout the many months of trying to get this straightened out, Capital One and their representatives were terrific and a God send. Without them I would have been left holding the bag.

Forewarned is forearmed, my friends.

I recently purchased a new car and it has Sirius XM. Is there something in the fine print from my car purchase that will allow them to renew my service? I have no interest whatsoever in paying for it.

stan the man 06-20-2017 07:34 AM

I just called yesterday only because they have been calling me and I have not answered the number knowing it was a telemarketer, I thought. When I called them back I found out that my credit card had not gone through for next year's payment which was supposed to be $240. After reading this post about the special. I was directed to the cancellation department, and told them I was going to cancel unless they could meet the special that I had heard about. After some nonsensical questions they asked me about why you wanted to cancel etc. etc. etc. they gave me the special rate. Thank you so much for the information you provided

we had the same thing....it will just shut off.. and every time you click on the siris it will only play commercials for the radio.

I listen to it in the car, but the majority of my listening is through the app on my iPhone.

Boomer 06-20-2017 09:48 AM

Seriously, Sirius? Seriously?

Can anybody explain this bizarro business plan to me?

Why don't they simply offer a decent product at a decent price to gain loyal customers, instead of this smoke and mirrors routine, requiring constant monitoring and frustrating phone calls.

Didn't Sirius once have a competitor? I think they swallowed it or something. Can't remember and no time to look it up right now. Are they now the only game in town? -- Never a good thing.

We have it in both cars but the agreement is under Mr. Boomer's jurisdiction so I don't pay attention. He never reads TOTV but I am going to show him this thread.

Thanks for the info.

Similar experience way back before Howard Stern joined them. I had all the information about cancelling but they charged me anyway and would not let me off the hook even with names, dates, time. I wish 640 AM would reach out to us on our trips to NJ. I turn on the Sirius for our trip and cancel it when we return they have improved they refund the $$Money$$ quickly.

They have over 31 million subscribers. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I thoroughly enjoy it, and for the $100 a year, I get my money's worth.

I'm not sure what you mean by "requiring constant monitoring and frustrating phone calls." You enter a one year contract. When they year is up, you either renew or cancel. The renewal rate is clearly explained when you sign each year. Is it a pain to call them and ask about a discounted rate once a year, no. Not in the least.

kstew43 06-20-2017 11:25 AM

we actually hate the talking from the dj's....shut up already and play the darn music.....,

we like comcost 70's at home.....no dj's

Photo 1902,

OK. Thanks. All I know is what I have read on TOTV about the price-changing routine, etc. I thought it sounded like it needed too much attention and wondering why. It is a monopoly I am pretty sure.

As I said, Mr. Boomer takes care of that and I don't pay attention to how ours works. He has not complained. I will check with him though.

Also, I just now read that Warren Buffett has bought in. (SIRI)

In addition, you are notified prior to your one year contract expiring. I get my notification by email. If you forget to call and renegotiate a price, your credit card will get charged for the full amount. I usually put it on my phone calendar to remind myself to make the call.

Good idea. Mr. B loves his phone calendar. I will remind him to have his phone calendar remind him.

Interesting company.
