Men win more often on Jeopardy than women.

Why?

kcrazorbackfan 07-04-2017 06:57 PM

Guys - take my advice and don't go there, it won't be pretty. :a20:

I wonder if it's as simple as perhaps there are more male contestants than female. I don't know, just guessing (like my usual Jeopardy answers).

There ARE more male contestants. Someone suggested men would risk more in final Jeopardy. I never thought about it.

I am not a militant woman, rather a confident one who enjoys the company of both sexes. I know that there ARE gender differences in ways we learn, what we learn and things we are interested in.

Sorry Gracie but this is the reality. The Smartest People In The World Are All Men

CFrance 07-04-2017 08:53 PM

It's because their fingers are fatter and they can push the buzzer button better.

Ecuadog 07-04-2017 08:55 PM

It's because they don't have a woman telling them what to do?

That was interesting. I have no problem with men being smarter in many ways. I know they aren't in all ways. We each have our strengths and weaknesses and I think both genders are meant to compliment and support each other. I like both genders who aren't afraid of work, getting dirty, getting things done that need to get done. And I love to figure out how things work. Sometimes men have an inclination to "muscle" something instead of think why it isn't working. Just my view.

manaboutown 07-04-2017 08:59 PM

Although the IQs of men and women average about the same. The tails of the Bell Curve for men extend out further in both directions for men than they do for women.

It is interesting to me that intelligence tests are looked down on anymore. People are always giving excuses why some don't learn as well as others. I think it helps to know your I.Q.

I am very familiar with the Wechsler and the Whoopsie and the Stanford-Binet.

I do know that we are not all equal in ability but we are all valuable.

It's because women blink more often than men.

I see how people with real wisdom and enjoyment of life can talk about intelligence and gender...

And winking. I mean blinking.

I love mature people.

I probably do best with history and movies. You can play Jeopardy online and I believe its an official game. Could be wrong though.

Jeopardy is not really about intelligence; it's about knowing loads of trivia, and men seem to have a propensity for accumulating facts (all of them useful, of course).

rubicon 07-05-2017 03:46 AM

Is an IQ more important than one's EQ? Or does one need a healthy dose of both?

How does one explain late bloomers?

When it comes to the sexes my response has always been I love women, and I mean that respectfully. I believe men and women should compliment one another. My wife and I fit because, from the day we met, we each drew on the other's strengths.

and yes when it comes to approaching issues men are from Mars and women from Venus

I'll take "Keep My Mouth Shut" For $2000. A Winner For Sure.

Bonny 07-05-2017 07:30 AM

I read a few years back that the winners are most likely people who have the ability to retain a lot of information, are usually real big on playing trivia games and read a lot of books.
Some of those categories just amaze me and how quick people come up with the answers.
I'm pretty sure you won't ever see me on Jeopardy. LOL :D

manaboutown 07-05-2017 08:32 AM

In my experience, and this is a generalization, women are better at learning foreign languages and multi-tasking. They also see more shades of color than men. They are great decorators. Men and women's brains just differ, at least in part due to evolutionary roles.

dewilson58 07-05-2017 08:40 AM

Men are better at guessing.

Rapscallion St Croix 07-05-2017 10:11 AM

I am not smart. The only time I ever made a 100 in school was in 7th grade when the teacher asked me to name two pronouns and I blurted out, "Who, me?"

retiredguy123 07-05-2017 12:26 PM

Men are just more competitive than women. Have you ever wondered why men also dominate the game of chess, which requires no strength or worldly knowledge?

Topspinmo 07-05-2017 12:32 PM

I don't think men are smarter on Jeopardy. It all about retention. Straight A students and people that like to read and can retain will do good IMO. You know the nerdy type. Brick on the middle good example!

Breibart is not a legitimate news source. There are serious studies that have shown Women's scores on IQ tests now equal those of men, and in some cases surpass those of men, because of societal factors such as increased educational opportunities for women, better nutrition, being in the workforce, more gender neutral IQ test questions, etc.

As far as Jeopardy, it is a game, with a buzzer that can dictate who comes out ahead. As someone else posted, winning has less to do with IQ than with playing the game and operating the button. Surely we have better things to do than promote petty gender wars.

Would you mind providing links to these "serious studies"? I would love to see them if they are legitimate scientific studies and not ginned up PC malarky. 'Enquiring minds want to know.' :D

Well. I am not up on the latest genetics therapies but I do know a bit about the double helix and unlocking the human genome. I have an inquiring mind and a decent memory and medicine has always fascinated me.

I'll show you my malignant hyperthermia and you can show me your thyroid malfunction.

But I defer to your education and knowledge and experience.

2:1 GG vs GE. And if GE knows what is good for him, he'll drop out now. Just saying.

No, but strangely enough the correct answer is not all that far from lobster. Has a shell, moves slow, but no claws and tastes quite a bit different, but good with butter, lemon and black pepper.
