Another pet killed by a coyote...
I just read in another social media site where a woman's dog got taken and killed this morning by a coyote. Please people don't let your pets run loose. I've seen it many times!! This pet was in it's yard but I've seen dogs being walked not on their leash. It's doing them a disservice not to being mindful of their safety!
I've also observed pet cats being let out to roam as well. NOT a good thing! We've had stories where they've even gotten snatched from lanai's here....so please be mindful and take precausions for your pets!!! |
It's a very sad story :( I can never get enough reminders to be mindful of ANYTHING that will help protect my pet....from dog flu, to gator attacks to coyote snatching. Thank you NotGolfer for the post. I totally agree Jaggy!

A very sad happening.
My heart goes out to the owners. |
How common is this?

To GE....I meant it as a reminder and not something funny or to joke about. I generally respect your posts however! |
I am not understanding where people are hearing that the dog was not on a leash. the story on the site that shall not be named did not mention if a the doggie was on a leash or not on a leash.. if someone knows the info for sure please post.. I take my little girl out on a leash always but I am still worried about a big ole coyote coming at us .. dang ..oh --

I remember another post maybe a year ago about a coyote coming through the lanai screen to get their cat that was on the porch. That's the only time I've heard about that happening. Especially since we have so many rabbits and squirrels this time of year. |

I was just out taking my dog for a ride in the golf cart and I see two different people with their dogs out on their front lawn with no collar and no leash. So I politely suggested that they be sure they have a collar and leash on their dog so what happened this morning will not happen to them. They both said they read about it and it was terrible but they do not think this will not happen to them. Sad that they just do not get it.

In the story I read it was a chihuahua, just a snack for a coyote. I have resided in coyote territory most of my life - and still do. The reality is coyotes are truly wily and opportunistic. They have to be to survive. Be en garde when your dog or cat is out.

Most of those I see around NM look mangy and half starved - which they are. In SoCal in the canyon behind my house near the coast they are better fed. |

I wonder if it was one of the chihuahuas I would see with a woman walking a baby carriage often around the Belvedere Library? She had two small dogs in the carriage. And it seems to me they were chihuahuas.
So sorry for this woman's loss. And I know a few people who have two small dogs and they seem often extremely bonded to one another. |

Very interesting. Thanks. I'v seen numerous well fed coyote type animals since we moved here 5 years ago. Not at all like the scrawny ones out west. Even the fox here are larger than I have seen elsewhere. Lots of food available! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |
Both Orlando channel 6 and 9 did stories about the incident on their Friday evening news. They both had reporters in TV and interviewed neighbors, showed the street and showed a picture of the dog. It was a 3 year old 14 pound long hair dog. The people also had their pug in the yard at the same time, which looked even smaller but the coyote went for the bigger dog. They were in the front yard and there was two people in the yard with the dog but it was not on a leash. Here's a link to the channel 9 story.

Their Here
Our back yard security lights went on around midnight a few weeks ago. Looked out and it was an animal the size of a large dog walking around the property. :sigh:
