Restaurant for Anniversary

I'd like to take my wife to someplace new for our upcoming anniversary. Doesn't have to be real fancy or expensive, but just a bit different and very nice with good food. We've already agreed we don't want to go a long way, so someplace in the tri-county area would be preferable. Maybe as far as Ocala if something really appeals to us.

Any recommendations?

NYGUY 07-14-2017 11:13 AM

The Rose Plantation fits your description.

I agree completely.

Harry's

l2ridehd 07-14-2017 01:03 PM

Celeste's in Ocala, Turners in Leesburg, Big Bobs in Oklawaha, Rose Plantation, Burn's in Tampa.

Mission Inn Resort

about 20 minute drive from TV. You won't be disappointed in the food, service, views. May be more expensive than some restaurants, but great place for a special occasion.

dewilson58 07-14-2017 03:21 PM

Have dbussone & Nucky come over and cook you a lobster dinner.

What restaurant are you speaking of? :)

My specialty is a filet with a butterflied lobster tail.

And thanks for the compliment! The women in our neighborhood are waiting in line, and my golfing buddies are pretty PO'd

If you would like a fabulous meal, but expensive, go to Mark's Prime in Ocala. They also prepare non-steak meals. Their Chilean sea bass is out of this world. It is our preferred restaurant for special occasions.

Reservations are required for the Rose Plantation.

Heheh. Got me! I've hardly ever seen headlines used like that.

Oh, and...thanks! :)

The food and service at Mark's Prime is good. A bit expensive for the quality, but the big issue I have is the noise. It is the loudest place I have ever eaten. You can't have a conversation at the table. And so everyone in the place is yelling to talk at their table. Which just makes it worse. Went once and will never go back because of the noise issue.

fred53 07-15-2017 07:26 AM

In order for someone to make it someplace "new" wouldn't the original poster have to given the places they've already eaten a good meal???

I will have to try that some time. Chilean sea bass sounds good. Home - Mark's Prime Steakhouse Is that a seasonal dish the Chilean sea bass as I do not see it on their Ocale menu unless it would be in the Fresh Catch cover all.

I'm ashamed to tell you I don't know how to cook. That being said we really enjoyed The Rose Plantation. Have a good time. I almost forgot if you want a great Italian meal Big Bob's in Ocklawaha on Route 25 is great food but a little touchy on the outside. Hard to explain.

birdawg 07-15-2017 01:17 PM

Harrys Ocala.

I've never experienced that issue at Marks.

The Goblin Market in Mt. Dora.

Tootsie's Mom 07-15-2017 02:48 PM

The Ivy House in Ocala. Victorian style house with southern cooking, not pricey. Call for hours or check dining section of Daily Sun.

Another good suggestion. My wife enjoys this restaurant. She goes several times a year with her friends.

For a fun lunch sometime try "Lunch on Limoges" in Dade City. Reservations are required, and the menu is eclectic.

PB - perhaps consider Dade City for a fun lunch and part of an afternoon outing.

Haven't been there for a while but we found the Cotillion in Wildwood to be a special experience. Great service, great food, and a definite return, soon.

Kinda. It's The Villages Gourmet Club. Been around for many years. I think they meet quarterly. LINK. Trusted reviews too.

Chilean Sea Bass is a non-sustainable fish. It became popular due to slick marketing techniques. Google Chilean Sea Bass and you will find pictures of it and the real name of the fish - Patagonian Toothfish.

Go for beef. A dry aged ribeye steak medium rare cannot be beat.

Sorry Skip. Gave the wrong name. That is one from another town in Virginia. The one in Ocala I like is La Cuisine French Restaurant and it's right behind Mark's.

I always have a nice steak at Mark's. I'll let YOU tell my wife she can't eat the fish. Just make sure you have your affairs in order first.

Chicken is ok too. I eat it often, but I would never pay a restaurant for a chicken meal.

And my direct response to your point is...YES!

First place suggested was The Rose Plantation, and there's where we ended up going...

It fit the description of what I was looking for perfectly. We hadn't been there before and it's definitely a bit different. The food was very good. It's a bit pricey, but there were several entrees for around $20, so it would be possible to eat there without going overboard. But it was our anniversary and we did go overboard...and enjoyed every penny of it! :)

The country atmosphere and setting may not be for everybody, but we enjoyed it very much.

Heheh. Post #35.

We enjoyed it very much. As part of my brief "review", I stated it may not be for everyone. But it was a very enjoyable and different place. "Different" was high on my list of desirables, so we were very pleased. :)
