Recent mattress purchase
Has anyone recently purchased a new king size mattress and baseboard for a bad back and which they are happy with and paid between $1000 and $1500 including baseboard. Also where you purchased it (name of store) and brand name of mattress. This type of shopping is quite a chore and I am trying to save time. Thanks!

You might also have a look at Casper - that mattress comes recommended and delivers to the house also. |

I've been thinking of a sleep-number bed; but that is a pricey option for residents that are seasonal. We just bought a Sealy Posturpedic in Canada with gel, which is awesome, but they don't make the same bed in the US. Does the price from Brentwood include a box spring or base? Is the mattress firm but comfy? |

Do a little research and you will see how most mattresses are constructed and where the get layer and form layers are located. |

We are arriving shortly, and staying in a hotel until we can buy a firm king-size mattress and have it delivered.
I will try Brentwood Homes based on msfooter's recommendation. Has anyone in The Villages bought a mattress lately at a store they can recommend? CWGUY, have you bought a mattress recently? |
Purchased one and in six months it had hollowed out places...we complained to the big box store where we purchased it and they allowed us to buy a much more expensive one, and take the first in return and now it too has depressions. (Someone suggested return it... it seemed wrong, but we did)
Now everyone will think we are extremely large people, we aren't twiggy's but still. I think they are being made somewhere that doesn't have the high standards that we used to enjoy in mattresses. We used to sleep on them comfortably for years even knowing they were writhing beneath us with dust mites........EWWWWW. Is that true??? |

They are out to get us. ;) |
We went through this same dilemma a few years ago. Susi likes a soft mattress and I like a firm one. We did the sleep number where she was a 35 and I was an 80, but gave up on that after a few pump problems.
We tried many different ones. Use to look at every mattress in every hotel we stayed at to narrow the field. We ended up buying a Simmons Beautyrest NxG plush pillow top king mattress and we both love it. For me it seems way to soft when you first lay down, but than shortly it feels very firm. After 4 years, no dents, soft spots or any other issues. I would buy it again if it's still available when we replace it. |
We bought a Simmons K-size "Cape Horn" plush (not pillow top) Beautyrest at Mattress Firm 9 years ago and it is still SO comfortable and shows no wear. At the same time we bought a Q-size Pillow-top Simmons without box springs for the guest room and everyone remarks how comfortable it is. I think we just got lucky.

Just had to go thru this same process.... have always been a Sealy Posturepedic fan. Went to Sears in Ocala, extremely helpful, patient, pleasant sales woman. Was trying the Sealy mattresses and nothing felt good. I have severe arthritic problems with the spine, and recently underwent surgery twice for a herniated disc. Mattress selection is a big problem. The saleswoman suggested I try "this one".... had no idea what it was, tried it for about 30-40 minutes and fell in love. It was a Beautyrest, I cannot find the specific design, but it is NOT Gel or foam and it is NOT a pillowtop. All I can tell you is, it is perfect. I prefer a firm mattress, hubby prefers a softer one and we both are really happy with this mattress. 2-3 yrs old and holding up well, no pockets, groves, dents, remains as when purchased. It was within your stated price range. There is a return policy if you are not satisfied....

And our 10 year mark with our select comfort one of us likes 35 one of us like 65 it was the only option for us. Still working great no problems if we do there is replacement parts down the road.

Consumers best buy recommended. The Denver mattress Doctors Choice, rated very good for both back and side support.

Saatva.com. No sagging after 4 years. Have it in all my bedrooms. Great reviews and right in your price range.

If it was 2-3 years ago, they've probably discontinued the model. Still I wish you could remember the name. I wasn't planning to try Sears in Ocala, but your comments are very positive! |

asianthree, thanks for the info on Saatva. That rules out the mattress. I'm not comfortable with buying online anyway even though you save money that way. I need to try the mattress. I'm looking for a very firm yet comfy mattress. I need direction as to where to shop. Because we're migratory humanoids, we've ruled out a sleep number as too pricey. |

I have never done anything like that before and I am pretty sure I would need help.:1rotfl: |
It isn't sleep like the dead is steal the bed from the dead. We bought a Tempur Pedic Mattress and Box Spring 15 years ago. The warranty is 20 years and this bed is going to pass that many years easily. We are spoiled, so perfect, we are in agreement that we paid $2600 that long ago because Mrs Nucky was going to kill me for spending that much on a bed, that's why she remembers. When we were buying the cheap beds they only lasted a couple of years.
This bed which you can take for a trial run has been returned by 3 different couples who had them delivered for a test at their homes. To soft, to much pillow top, I think it was too much money because they squeak when they walk. Whatever, I wouldn't buy anything but a Tempur Pedic. Same bed today has to be $4000 I would think. Good Luck. |

The last real mattress we had was a top of the line from the Original Mattress factory double sided-weighed a ton--became a 2 person job to change the bedding
went to the store on canal st. sleep in comfort bought their equivalent of sleep # bed --perfection--comfprt and feather light |
We have had a waveless water bed, sleep number, posturepedic etc. We sailed on the Royal Princess Cruise ship in 2015 and the Coral Princess in 2016 and slept so well on their custom made bed we didn't want to get up. Finally they started selling them and early this year we bought one. Free delivery included. We opted for the pillow top. Now you can spend $1000 and never sleep or you can get one of these for about $2000. How much is too much for a piece of furniture you spend 1/3 of your day on? This is the best money we can remember spending. Copy and paste web address in your browser.

No more bad back!! Tuft and Needle is awesome!
For years both my wife and I searched for the perfect bed. I had issues with my lower back - always woke up stiff and sore, and she is a side sleeper and always had issues with her shoulder.
Over the past 10 years we have tried multiple beds - had a $3,000 sleep number bed, a $2,500 Tempurpedic, then tried a Casper (worked for me, but not my wife). We finally purchased a Tuft and Needle mattress after reading all of the reviews - Fantastic is the word that comes to mind! No soreness in the morning for me, and my wife's shoulder no longer is sore. We have had it for over a year now, and it continues to be great. Even purchased a 2nd one for the guest room! Pricing is very reasonable - Queen is $575 and King is $700. They deliver to your door, and have a 100 night return guarantee. It costs you nothing to try it. We don't use a box spring - our bed has a solid bottom. I don't work for them, and I get nothing for promoting their product - just letting you know it's very reasonable and worked for me! Cheers! |

They have 3 selections. 1 being the firmest. I have had both the 2 and 3. I like the 3 because it is a pillow top and its pretty firm for me. It is the only Mattress I have ever owned that has never sagged. My guests have commented that they had a great night's sleep when they stay over. |
We've thought about writing a book on this - we've had 6 mattresses in 10 years. Got a regular, flat-top king mattress (not comfortable, too hard); Tempurpedic (no side support, hotter than ***, lumpy); traded that in for a Sterns & Foster (fabulous - should have kept it, the kids got it); Comfortaire Air Bed (continually leaked, never worked right, couldn't adjust it); Foam mattress (too soft, again no side support to sit on it); Sleep Number (HATED this one; never could get it right, the foam piece in the middle was lumpy/uncomfortable). Now we have a REALLY nice bed (but expensive) -Beautyrest Black Natasha Luxury Plush Pillow Top King-size Mattress Set - first time in years I haven't had a sore back when I wake up. It's pricey - but worth it. A friend bought a Casper, loved it - I didn't get that far because I was concerned about returning a bed bought online. However, Mattress Stores? Wow, I could go into great (rip-off) detail, they wouldn't sell my wife a mattress unless "I was with her to make the decision", blah blah blah. The mark-up is phenomenal, as well. Good luck!

Based on all the responses it seems different models of the Beautyrest by Simmons wins. The problem comes when you try to replace or match a model. They continuously change the names. Mine was an NxG I think. But if you search for that, all you find is several different names. Mine is a king with a plush pillowtop which makes it about 18 inches thick. So when I replace this I am getting another Beautyrest King plush pillowtop that is the most expensive one I can afford at the time. I don't know how else to match the one I currently have. If I recall it was around $2000 when I bought it.

We bought a Jamison firm mattress at White furniture two years ago. Big mistake.

We have Flo Beds in our house. Ours is 7 years old and is as comfortable as the day we bought it. Bed arrives in boxes and you assemble. Not difficult. Not necessarily inexpensive, but having the ability to move the cores and change the firmness or softness is wonderful. (We have 4 cores on our bed, three on the guest bed.)

I want a bed that is quite firm, yet comfy. On a scale from 1 to 10, (10 being very firm), how would you rate the Tuft and Needle mattress? I would also want a solid bottom rather than a box spring. Did you get your solid base from T & N ? Lastly, did you buy your bed from Amazon.com or directly from T & N? |
bought temper-pedic, love it! Firm, might add pillow top for cushin.
