to see if anyone commented on Sarah Palin's remarks in Hong Kong. There was total outrage at the Dixie Chicks.... When all they said was they were against the war and ashamed that the President was from Texas.

During a London concert ten days before the 2003 invasion of Iraq, lead vocalist Maines said, "we don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas" (the Dixie Chicks' home state).[2] The statement offended people who thought it rude and unpatriotic, and the ensuing controversy cost the group half of their concert audience attendance in the United States and led to accusations of the three women being un-American, as well as hate mail, a death threat, and the destruction of their albums in protest.[3]

Most of the issue was they made the statement out of the US....

So now Palin slams the Obama administration in Hong Kong, that would be out of the United States, so where is the outrage?

But she was only trying to help them out by telling them about her success as a business entrepeneur -
1. Helped her husband catching fish.
and
2. She operated a car wash.:jester:

Actually heard quite a bit on Huffington, MSNBC, Yahoo news even thought the speech had the press barred and was a private affair which makes it just a bit different but your point is well taken !

And they were only saying they were ashamed he was from Texas....

As much as it pains me, I must agree with Colagal in this instance. No-one in public life should believe that anything said to more than one person will remain private.

Although facts may not be of interest to Colagal or Topper1, may I suggest that you take the time to actually read about the speech rather than going to cutesy lines. As one person who had worked for Obama in the past said, "She didn't criticize. I was waiting to see if she said anything derogatory about Obama, and she didn't."

This was a direct attack on the President, even if she did not say his name. Sarah Palin by contrast, "She didn't criticize. I was waiting to see if she said anything derogatory about Obama, and she didn't."

In your initial post you stated, "So now Palin slams the Obama administration in Hong Kong, that would be out of the United States, so where is the outrage?" I have cited the AP story that said that this never happened. What is your source for your claim? MSNBC?

Why anyone is remotely interested in anything that Sarah Palin says is beyond me! In my opinion, she pollutes the planet and whenever I hear her name as a possible presidential contender, I am convulsed with laughter.

If the I.Q. of America ever drops so low that she would be voted into the office of President of United States... my passport would be out in a flash!

You know what they say "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" ... I think that about sums up Sarah Palin.

I don't want to discuss Sarah Palin's qualifications or lack thereof. Should she decide to run for the US Senate in 2010, there is little doubt she would unseat the moderate Republican now holding the seat, Lisa Murkowski. She is liked and respected by the people of Alaska - the people that actually know her.

The only reason I posted on this thread was to disprove the blatant misrepresentations made by others on this board.

It is quite interesting that if you want participation on this forum simply start a thread about Sarah Palin !

Health care, Afghanastan, economy get no play...just mention Palin and all of a sudden.....

There are far too many that cannot even begin to meet the Sarah Palin benchmark, so affectionately presented in such a belittling manner above! Yet nary a word ever about the ineffective, inept incumbents in both parties.

The taking space, non contributing, corrupt, lechers, liars, tax fraud experts and liars.....not only get elected....they get re-elected.

Now just why does their totally unacceptable performance not demand at least equal venom?

This discussion brings to mind the big question of why is it that Liberal talk shows always fail while Conservative ones always succeed.

When Liberals discuss an issue they always end up bashing a Conservative and very often do it with hate. Notice how liberals cannot stay on issue without ranting on with hateful comments about some Republican individual.

The Liberal talk show hosts all fail for this very same reason.

A good answer to why Liberals act this way is they fear the truth. In the case of Palin they fear her because she is so much a threat to them. Thus their hate for her.

Let's get one thing clear... I don't "hate" Sarah Palin, I don't even know Sarah Palin. I don't even "hate" that she's pouncing on her 15 min. of fame to make all the money she can! Actually, I rarely use the word "hate" at all. I didn't say "never", I said "rarely".

What I do dislike is the feeling that some Americans are slipping -- setting the bar way to low. I was honestly shocked that the Republican party was not up in arms when McCain named her as his running mate. I did have much more respect for the right-wing before that. That is also, when many of my Republican friends and family, decided they could not, in all good conscience, vote Republican in the last election.

Wow, you talk about liberals being starry-eyed over President Obama! Ha! That was nothing compared to the adoration for this inadequate woman I saw come from the right-wing. She looked like a fool on national television, she looked like a hate-monger at the rallies... I'm sorry I just don't get it.

Again, let me say this simply -- I think Sarah Palin is inadequate. Does that sound like a hateful sentence? You won't like it because you sound like you all believe she is. Just because I have an opposite opinion, doesn't mean I hate. I don't hate. But, I do see an awful lot of it coming from right-wing extremists! Bucco, I have posted my views on Health Care, Afghanastan, and the economy here and there, quite a few times. Perhaps you just don't chose to read them. As far as frauds go, they're on both sides of the aisle. Plain and simple. The next election will tell the tale. I would like to see Nancy Pelosi gone. And Cashman, I don't know what liberal shows you think are failing... perhaps there are, but I'm a CNN junkie and Meet the Press, and I don't believe either of those are liberal or slanted to the left.

The Dixie Chicks are entertainers. While they enjoy the same right to free speech all Americans have, there is a consequence to including partisanship in their act on stage. It is exacerbated further by their verbal political attacks abroad. That consequence is that the country is politically divided and those that disagree with their unqualified criticism can stop buying their records and voice their displeasure about use or abuse of their celebrity status. In essence the Chicks have ticked off half the public and their potential market, not a great business move.

Sarah Palin is a politician who lives in the arena of politics. It is expected that she would be partisan and her ideological enemies like Chelsea are gleefully eager to attack anything she says or does. She also has a very large conservative base that supports her. She turns out bigger crowds than any Republican candidate. Time will tell whether she will win over moderates and the possibility that she may, has the lunatic left in a snit and ready to criticize anything she does. Cologal, the point is Palin is within her political element and the Chicks are not. Politicians don't really care about controversy or bad press as long as their name is spelled right in the newspaper. They don't sell records.

BTW, I remember more than a few "entertainers" Streisand, Baldwin, et al swearing they would "have their passports" ready to move abroad if "W" was elected. He was and their still here.

Never mentioned your name or even implied it. I just find it interesting that if PALIN is in the thread title, there will be more lookers and posts than on anything else, no matter how important. My post had nothing to do with Palin, pro or con...just an observation.

And on your posts, I read all posts....never thought it was wise to ignore anyone !

Still, as usual, no response on issues or priorities!!!!!
 

Amazingly consistent. Not just on this forum. Other forums, and in day to day discussions. It is always a yah but and the issues are rarely if ever addressed.

without insulting anyone or commenting on adequacy or inadequacy in the public arena, i think that what so many conservative americans see in sarah palin is an honest, down to earth american woman who clearly loves her country and state and is so proud of our american heritage, when in contrast in pres. obama, we see someone who does not really love america the way we do, wants to change to a direction we do not like, and is also inadequate in experience but in a more dangerous way....you may not agree with this assessment of obama but that is how i see him and millions of conservatives do also....we want a leader who LOVES AMERICA!!! as for not thinking CNN and meet the press are slanted to the left, i used to say that, also, until i started getting the OTHER side of the story from fox, the things i never heard about on the main media...it would behoove some to force themselves to listen, really listen, even if they do not agree, so that they can understand why conservatives feel the way we do....we certainly are forced to listen to the liberal side in all the regular news channels every time we turn on our tv...and that is a good education....know both sides....

They had a right to say what they said without being called UnAmerican..Unpatriotic and to receive death threats. Free speech is Free speech by a politician or entertainer. I thought I would bite but No. But I will say this when I was a kid, 10, JFK ran for office. To me, an Irish Catholic kid, he was a God. As I got older and went to college I had to study history...he will always had God-like status but I know his warts. I am admittely someone who was strongly opposed to our current Presidents election and remain opposed to MOST of his policies !!! I, however, have also crticized ON THIS BOARD the past President and his party !

As for Fox...all the networks are bias...if you cannot see that you are not paying attention ! The problem is that they merge news with commentary and folks have no idea of that they are watching anymore and think the commentary is NEWS..it is not !

I try real hard to stay away from all the cable news channels because it is NOT NEWS for the most part but commentary.

Fox, in fact, was born out of the left bias on other outlets and made or makes no bones about that and for what it is worth continues to totally dominate the cable networks If you have ever watched MSNBC especially at night, you are tuning into the hard left wing of the Democratic party but that also gets left undiscussed. This is not a defense of Fox or anything like it...just a statement of fact !

Try the newspapers and CSPAN.....there is in fact TWO sides to every story but first you have to learn WHAT THE STORY is !!!!

I don't see where Sara Palin attacked the President of the U.S. At a conference in Hong Kong she gave her opinion on the causes of the economic collapse that is of concern to all free thinking people, like the people of Hong Kong. She decried big-government policies that drag down the markets instead of correcting them. She then went on to explain her belief in conservative principles that spur business growth and pointed to the successes of Reaganism in accomplishing that, in her view. Get a grip Liberals. You won the election. Quit fighting the same old tired fight. You're losing your grip on reality, and with any luck, soon also your grip on our once great nation.

Speaking of not owning up to those in power and their warts...

I think that I have....I researched exactly what the Chicks said and looked at what Palin said. Neither of them were a direct attack. But the response has been completely different.

that after being off political for a while that I'd come back to find out everyone is still arguing over Palin! Iran has announced a new nuke processing facility, the Oval office is not supporting the generals in Afghanistan, there is news today about tax credits for people with pets (whats that all about). This is the only time I can agree with the words "Move ON". Find something of substance to talk about, be you left, right, centerest or green.

Sarah is a well liked conservative, christian, pro-life, mother and business woman and the left hates her because of it. It wasn't two days after she she was announced as the VP running mate that left started in. Went after her, her husband and her family straight away. And still are to this day.

Watch who the left demonize. Those are the one's that worry them them most... politicly.

Conservatives generally go after policy. The left generally goes after the person.

They don't have an intellectual common sense leg to stand on so they demonize the person. That's their play book... their only play book.

Sara pollutes the earth and Cheney is evil. That's really all they can muster up.

I went back and researched the incident in question. There is no doubt that Maines did directly attack then President Bush as reported in the Guardian. However, subsequent statements by Maines and President Bush have been overlooked. Here is what was said in March and April of '03.

London on March 10, 2003, at the Shepherd's Bush Empire theatre in England, during the introduction to their song "Travelin' Soldier", Natalie Maines, a Texas native, said: “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.”

The comment about United States President George W. Bush, who served as the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000 before his election to the Presidency, was reported in The Guardian's review of the Chicks concert as an attack on President Bush.

To her great credit, Maines issued an apology on March 14: "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect. We are currently in Europe and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war. While war may remain a viable option, as a mother, I just want to see every possible alternative exhausted before children and American soldiers' lives are lost. I love my country. I am a proud American.”

President Bush responded to the controversy in an interview with Tom Brokaw on April 24:
“The Dixie Chicks are free to speak their mind. They can say what they want to say ...they shouldn't have their feelings hurt just because some people don't want to buy their records when they speak out ... Freedom is a two-way street ... I don't really care what the Dixie Chicks said. I want to do what I think is right for the American people, and if some singers or Hollywood stars feel like speaking out, that's fine. That's the great thing about America. It stands in stark contrast to Iraq ...

IMHO, it should have ended there. Maines had apologized for her off the cuff remarks. Bush had, in turn, emphasized the importance of free speech for all Americans.

Unfortunately, it did not end there. CW fans, enraged by what was perceived as an attack on their country, did not take into consideration Maines’ apology or Bush’s upholding of free speech for all Americans. Maines, apparently embittered by repeated attacks, was later to go on the attack against President Bush.

This was a great loss for the American people. While I am conservative, I have enjoyed the talents of many artists that I believe to be hard left – among them Barbara Streisand, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, PP&M and yes, The Dixie Chicks.

Maines apology should remind those of us who are of a conservative bent of the respect we owe the office of the President and our more liberal friends of the respect they should have, and should continue to show for President Bush and VP Cheney.

There are complaints filed that this board is so anti Obama but those who support him rely only on bashing the past President or Palin !

I was under the impression that the strategy....never really defined just called "strategy"....announced in March is under review and the request for more troops is on hold until the WH makes a decision on a new strategy !

The generals asked for more troops but OB wants to rethink our strategy in Afghanistan . He did not support the generals, instead he's second guessing them.

Tax credits for pets? That was on a ABC affiliate news program yesterday. The feds are thinking about up to a $3500 credit for pet owners, because some now have to decide between food for their pets or themselves. DAH! I didn't make that up!

I only meant the use of the words Move On, not the organization. Glad to see that they're to far left for you though.

The difference between the Bush bashers usual position
 

was/is as long as it is Bush (or Palin or Cheney or who ever) no matter the subject...the result is a character/party bashing. When a question is asked about an Obama position....or if one disagrees with an Obama position, statement or what ever....that is interpreted by the same bashers as bashing Obama. The questions usually have nothing to do with his character or person (or color)....just the issue.....but most of the Obama supporters ALWAYS take the position of any non conformance is bashing.

The other cinsistency is the Obama supporters, to date, will never present their case for why they are in support of a given Obama issue being challenged....NONE to date. And the ongoing question....now why is that???
