I want my money back.

It is now 2:46 and we are at the height of the eclipse which is 70% and it isn't even dark.

I blame the Morse family.

manaboutown 08-21-2017 01:57 PM

Guess you weren't in a place to take in the full show - providing the sky was sufficiently clear?

I am in Sandpoint, ID right now, not far from the full eclipse path. The sunlight level faded some, but not nearly as much as I expected. My brother was at some town in Oregon in the path, staying with friends. He said it was quite an experience!

Perhaps the Morses flew one or two of their jets up to one of their ranches in Montana or Wyoming to view it there. Are they in TV or away?

That's because we live in The Bubble !!!

dbussone 08-21-2017 02:04 PM

The only thing I noticed was that it got a little darker and my dog went into our bedroom. He must have thought it was an early nighttime.

I'm a little cloudy on this subject currently. As a Yankee in King Morse's Court, I predict as a TV lunatic that it shall soon pass, and become an enlighting experience again.

You might not see anything drastic. TV is at about 80% totality. Although the light does have a slightly different blueish tint to it.

LOLOL (also chuckled at Gracie's post). I didn't bother to get glasses but will say while it was "sunny" outside...it did get a bit dark inside the house (ie when it's dusk). This event wasn't worth the hype the media was giving it! Some folks drove hours north for 2 minutes--40 seconds and spent lots of $$$ of a astronomical event.

Gracie, I'm still in shock....I think the eclipse has affected you

Gpsma 08-21-2017 02:32 PM

There are a couple of ladies at the pool that can cause their own solar eclipse when they stand up.

Rapscallion St Croix 08-21-2017 02:35 PM

The effects of this event can only be compared to the damage we suffered during Hurricane Matthew. I provide the following documentation of that catastrophic event.
https://scontent-mia3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...f5&oe=5A1DAD17

I was really expecting something like I experienced in Germany in 1999 when day turned to night, or at least something as monumental as when Geraldo Revera opened Al Capone's safe on live TV.

Hmmmm, I wonder what Arizona & SUN City Experienced on today's Event? I still have my Internet......

ajbrown 08-21-2017 03:30 PM

My neighbors were sitting out in front of there house so I drifted over with the dog around 2:35 until about 3P.

Lucky me they had one set of glasses. We passed around the glasses like we used to pass around something else in the 70s. Do not bogart the glasses!

All kidding aside, I am glad I got to see it. As others have said, I too expected it to get darker... I guess that is because I do not have much experience with solar eclipses :)

Fredster 08-21-2017 03:46 PM

For those that missed it....all you can do now,
is hope to be around for the next one!:(

tranceminder 08-21-2017 03:48 PM

I am in Colorado and it seemed like I had a TOTAL ..... of course, I'm a registered medical marijuana client here, so I can have an eclipse anytime I desire .... only kidding!!!

Barefoot 08-21-2017 03:49 PM

People who experienced totality said it was a life-changing event. I don't get it.

As I experienced a cooling effect from this event, they have my blessing to continue to do it again as soon as feasible. :icon_wink:

I find marijuana humor to be about as funny as the smell it leaves . The weak ellipse was the Morse's fault.

Absolutely, although there seems to be a plant that smells just like skunkweed.

yesi3putt2 08-21-2017 04:34 PM

they showed it on CBS from several states..it really darkened up

Allegiance 08-21-2017 04:37 PM

It's mostly just media hype. They are not so rare.

Did you really think the Morses would let the sun not shine on TV?

Making plans for the next one, 2024, going across Texas, and Dallas/Fort Worth are in the path of totality, and we have relatives there.....going to check and see when we have to make reservations.....

Gracie, loved your initial comment.

Boudicca 08-21-2017 05:32 PM

Haha. There are a couple of real lol posts here. Gracie for one and GPSMA. :)

I've heard that The Villages will be in 100% totality starting close to 9pm, when one part of the Earth completely blocks out the sun from the other part. And it is safe to look up into the sky during this event.

billethkid 08-21-2017 05:40 PM

We were on the patio at Arnold Palmers during TV "peak"....a little cloudy like most afternoons lately. However there was a slight temp drop for that couple of minutes.

I blame the Morse family.

I too was disappointed in a major way. I thought that 86% coverage would result in actual darkness.

On the positive side, my pin-hole box worked fine and I was actually able to look directly at it at its peak because of the cloud cover. It did appear that the sun was 86% covered.

But yes, I also would like a refund.

BTW, this is the second total solar eclipse that I get screwed on. We had one that was directly over my home town, Boston, MA in 1959 and it got rained out. As an 8 year old, I was really disappointed after all the effort I put into making that pin-hole box.

That's why total eclipse rarely seen. You have to be in the path that's usually about 70 miles wide. Even 95% coverage won't be dark. It that last bit that makes difference. Everybody claims they seen eclipse but few ever eye total eclipse. You will have another chance in 7 years, but you will have to travel. Goggle eclipse map to see the path. I doubt most of use will be around in 2045 when the village will be in the direct path??????

Bavarian 08-23-2017 01:59 PM

We saw the total elipse in Orangeburg, SC where we visited a cousin and his wife. Right on the path of totality. Temp dropped about 5 DegF, was dark like evening, but no long shadows. Was well worth the drive.
Very drametic and once in a lifetime experience.
