Domestic Terrorist Attack
 

Yesterday there was a domestic terrorist attack in Clovis, NM

The shooter, male, walked into the Public Library and starting shooting leaving 2 dead and 4 wounded.

And how many "mass shootings" were performed by black/Hispanic gang members? We'll never know...many/most aren't reported as news...because it happens so often.

How many were killed in Chicago by blacks so far this year? Hundreds?

It makes news when ANYONE other than a black/Hispanic commits violence because it's so rare.

Fortunately this shooter does not appear to be a part of a large and dangerous group targeting Christians, Jews, and homosexuals.

This appears to be an isolated incident. Perhaps lover spurned?

Okay, listen up, here is the real scoop on what constitutes domestic terrorism.

If the attack is linked to any certain GROUP such as the alt-right as in Charlottesville when a car DELIBERATELY drove into a crowd, it is an act of domestic terrorism. Another example would be the shootings at Pulse nightclub where the shooter posted allegiance to ISIS.

Shootings NOT linked directly to a GROUP are not domestic terrorism.

Now, you have the official word. Go on about your business - nothing to see here.

With all due respect Gracie, I am NOT trying to minimize the threat of radical Islam. But walking into a school, theater or library and shooting people is terrorist by nature. All of these are public places and we should be able to go to them without fear for our lives!

But I am trying to point out the number of mass shooting that occur each year within our boarders. In Colorado Springs within roughly 30 days we had 2 mass shootings in 2015. Colorado has a history of mass shootings Columbine High School 13 dead, Aurora theater 2012 12 dead to mention 2 others.

All of these are arguably terror attacks but they were domestic.

Even The Villages School District narrowly escaped one of these last year! I am just trying to point them out when they occur.

I see where you re coming from and I agree. Any kind of doctrine that makes you want to kill innocent others is a form of terrorism whether it is motivated by the KKK, Basque separatist groups, the Irish Republican Army, Islamic fundamentalists, American militia Sovereign Nation movements, anti- abortion activists of a violent sort, etc. I do think that the movie theater shooting in Aurora was a mentally ill person bent on killing for personal reasons and not for any doctrine.

It's just cowards attacking unarmed people...until you people, and the press, stop giving them the attention, along with making the act something other than cowardly = they will continue. There is no shortage of nutjobs that want attention and fame...right wackadoodle???

I am just pointing out that you have been led to the conclusion that these people are "villians, not "cowards". You have been led to that decision the media...

Think back to Columbine and the media coverage was all about the 2 cowards that attacked unarmed people. They interviewed the shooters family, the media talked in detail about the shooters "goth" style, the media talked about how the shooters had planned the shooting. They made Eric Harris and Dylan Kielbold into villians and thus celebrities to other cowards. Did you hear much background info on the 13 killed or 21 injured? No, that would have taken away from Harris/ Kielbold's "fame".

We have to change the "draw" to these acts. All cowards desire to be thought of as powerfull, the media purports them as villains and gives them the attension they desire. Stop calling them anything than what they are: another coward that attacked unarmed people.

I disagree with the word "most" in your statement. It is my belief that those gang bangers are at war with each other and they are armed. I do agree they are cowards as they drive by and shoot up a dark house at night...they are not very good shots and a number of innocent people are killed. Maybe they should build a concrete walled Coliseum and invite the rival gangs to battle it out inside.

Don't we do that with cruise missiles? We drop bombs at night, when everyone is sleeping, and innocents often are killed too?

The difference is YOU sanction the one and not the other. The gangs would sanction THEIR actions and not yours.

Maybe we should do that for countries too...settle things with the two toughest...one from each country...mano-a-mano...winner takes all.

Are there any details out yet why this person targeted the library? Libraries and librarians do have their share of stalkers, exhibitionists, and other kinds of people. And sometimes these are the library staff doing these bad deeds.

A little reminder. I am trying to just Ignore these creeps Allegiance and dirtbanker. Really contemptible posters IMHO. If they post anything objectionable on the Regular Forum. COMPLAIN!!! Their voluminous personal attacks on me continue and this is harassment and is against the law in Florida.

A side note, if any nut job starts shooting do not run to the library...it is very similar to how tornados are attracted to trailer parks.

Actually thinking back on it there was press coverage on the students that were killed especially Cassie Bernell and Rachel Scott. There were accounts of the killers asking victims if they believed in GOD, if they said yes the killer replied "Then go be with him". There is some controversy surrounding these stories but in the immediate aftermath they were widely reported!

I remembered the Cassie Bernell story but I doubled checked my memory as the shooting occurred in 1999.

With all do respect GracieGirl I have thought about this post and mulled it over in my mind for quite some time. I did answer, originally, that I had not intended to equate this shooting with radical Islam which, at the time was true and still is.

However, now I wonder why these deaths are not equal? Were the people in that library terrorized by the shooting?
Are these people any less dead because they weren't shot by someone shouting Al Akhbar?

It is a sad day when anyone dies at the hand of violence...

To me one sick person killing someone is very sad. A group of people or a religion promoting and teaching and preaching and getting people to join in killing those with whom they disagree is angry making. We cannot help reacting according to our own beliefs and life experiences.

Thank you for the response and I agree the NO religion should promote violence as the followers of Radical Islam believe their version does.

It is not only radical Islam killing in the name of religion.

Remember Dylan Roof who killed worshippers during a prayer session. That was domestic terrorism.

The man who killed an abortion doctor in church was a domestic terrorist.

The white supremacist who rammed his car into a crowd is a domestic terrorist.

And what about the thousands and thousands of black people who have killed people singly and in multiples? It doesn't even make the news any more it's so common. The same day Roof shot up a church...gangs of blacks were shooting up places too. A hundred blacks died at the hands of other blacks that same day. NOTHING in the news.
