How is the electrical infrastructure here?
 

Not my first hurricane but my first in FL/TV. How does the power service hold up around here? Is an outage a sure thing? I am in Amelia near 466A. Should I expect an outage?

Was in NJ during SANDY and had above ground power poles in a 60yr old home and electric survived 60+ MPH winds. Since everything here is underground and my home is 9yrs old hoping it should be better.

ALWAYS expect a power outage in this type of scenario.

If it doesn't happen...then good for us.

While that is a very true comment it doesn't answer my question. :)

We Can't predict if there will be an outage or how long it will take to clear it. We've been here since 2009 and lost power once for about 2 hours. Having been thru storms up north we weren't allowed out until there were safe conditions existed.to start repairs on lines. So if it goes out and it's not safe for a crew to go out you could be out for a while. If it's going to go out hope it's near the end of the storm passing our area and not in the beginning. Nobody is going to risk there crews lives period

We have been here 9 years, 3 full time, I can say that we have only experienced 4 power failures, the longest about 90 minutes. All were due to equipment failures, none during a storm. Got my fingers crossed in hope Irma doesn't screw up the average.

You asked, "Should I expect an outage?"...and I answered it.

As far as asking someone, anyone, "is an outage a sure thing," if you find someone that you believe can confidently predict the future...I would start asking them about stocks. :D

Most of the infrastructure in the villages is buried, and therefore, somewhat shielded from the rather of mother nature. However, ALL of the lines feeding the substations that serve the villages area are OVERHEAD and therefore subject to the full fury for the storm called IRMA. As long as these are temporary faults, that the power will be restored quickly (seconds to minutes). If there is relatively minor damage, power can be restored soon (minutes to hours), If a line is severely damaged, then outages may be substantially longer. From what I have seen FL utilities seem to understand heavy wind and and have designed their lines for these conditions.
IMHO, yes, I would expect short outages, and hopefully short restoration times. For this reason, we do not have a generator, left it up North.

We lost power here for about an hour a week or so ago at around 10PM. Virtually everything from 466A down to LSL was out all on the east side of Morse. Went out for a ride and man was it ever dark! I also noted i heard hardly any generators running at least where I was driving.

We live in the Village of Santiago, been through 3 hurricanes and have never experienced any kind of power outage!

THAT'S what I like to hear! (He says while knocking wood, plastic or any synthetic material in the vicinity!)

Living in the new section south of 466A, we have Leesburg Electric. No clue as to how they will respond.

I'm guessing you didn't like the post about the Charlie Hurricane. Power outages lasted about a week. Oh, and this one makes Charlie look like a little puff. Be prepared for a long outage and be happy if it doesn't happen.

I was 12 when Hurricane Donna hit St. Petersburg and we lost our power for 3 days. That was not too bad considering that was 1962 and the only damage was a big tree limb broke off and hit the front of our house.

In 1979 I was in Pensacola when Hurricane Frederick a category 4 came ashore. I was visiting in Savannah when we became aware it was 250 miles south of Pensacola and headed due north. I drove back and made good time on I-10 since I was the only car westbound after Tallahassee. The hurricane turned slightly west and went up Mobile Bay and Pensacola is 50 miles east of Mobile, so we were on the bad side but did miss a direct hit. In Pensacola we had 78 mph winds with gusts to 95 at the airport, and I lived 1/4 mile from the airport. No real damage but did lose power for 3 days. It came ashore during the night. As soon as I got home I brought in all the pool furniture into the garage. Went into the hallway and closed all the bedroom and bathroom doors, got a radio and turned it on and just then the power went out, about 9:30pm. I got a pillow and fell asleep and when I woke the next morning it was over.

Where in TV did they lose power for three days during Charley? I was here and I think some houses lost power for three hours or so but didn't hear of more than that.

Yours is not a yes/no question...During the 04 storms I lived in Apopka with underground neighborhood utilities and lost power for 16 days after charlie seven with frances and 3 with jean... Our undergrounds were fed above ground.. Your question should be when do the villagers start eating each other after their cushy existence is no more!! LOL

We were here for 2004 and 2005 in Polo Ridge, never lost power. Here's hoping !!!!!
