Where is guidance from TV?
Please tell me if I'm wrong or overly critical.
I don't think I've heard anything from Tutt. Where is the guidance? Where are the ongoing updates? Why aren't the Rec Centers (not just one) open for people needing shelter and comfort? Is it me? EDIT: It's me. I've been taken behind the barn. I guess I was a bit hasty in my criticism. I just want my neighbors to be safe. Apologies to anyone I have offended. |

Plus many informative posts right here on TOTV. The rec centers that are open are for those living in mfg homes and low lying areas. What additional hand holding would you require from District management? IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF SHELTER CALL YOUR COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT. |

We're fortunate. We're younger than most of our neighbors and want to help them if we can. I just want them to be safe. Thank you for your input. |

We are grown up people. It's in the papers, it's all over the news, there are shelters. We are getting all kinds of guidance. They are listing everything, todays paper was full of guidance.
What is it you expect the Villages to do?  |

My dog doesn't have a crate, and I am going no place without her (my world). The Villages management should protect the people who make the money for them. I pay amenities. And before the hate, my friend's family lost a child in his sister island of Antigua (Barbuda) and another friend is down near Naples. At least my neighborhood watches each other here. Many have it worse than we do.

Bosox: thank you. You're kind.
Bogie: my apologies. I was hasty. Here2Stay: Gracie is a wonderful person. She's not harsh. Boy do I wish I hadn't started this thread. |
Whew. Being a bit harsh imho. I agree with most of you that TV has done everything reasonable to provide info and help. But I thought the op was pretty reasonable asking his question also...even admitting the possibility that it might just be him. I think he was admitting to the possibility that he's simply not as up-on-things as some of you.
Be nice, folks. The storm has all of us a little edgy. |

At least there are a few threads of something other than Irma. Still watching old comedies. Lock in a house for a few days will make anyone a little stir crazy

Rec Center for shelter. The Rec Centers are built from the same material and by the same people that built your house. So if you're not safe in your house, then you're not safe in a rec center. If you live in a mobile home on the historic side, then The Villages High School is open as a shelter and Gracie posted that an hour before your post was made. Here is a live webcam at Sloppy Joe's Bar in Key West, I've been watching it all day. You might have to give it a minute or so to load, I'm sure there are a lot of people watching. http://www.liveduvalstreet.com/ Live adjustable radar, I've been looking at this off and on all day. Just take your mouse and you can zoom out a little and then drag the area around Key West and Cuba. On the legend, you click radar and satellite so you'll get a mix of precip and cloud cover and then you'll see the eye. You can also put in motion with the buttom at the bottom. You can lighten the clouds and rain so you'll be able to see the map underneath by using the 'opacity' adjustment. Just play around with it and you can get a good picture of what's going on. What I don't understand very few people on here are new. Most have lived here many years and it seems like they've had there heads in the sand. You should know where shelters are before an emergency comes, you should know all about what is it isn't available and where everything is. In an emergency there is no time to say NOBODY TOLD ME THAT. MOST EVERYTHING INVOLVING THE VILLAGES IS EITHER ON THEIR WEB PAGE, IN THE NEWSPAPER OR POSTED AS TO WHERE TO GET INFO.My phone, tablet and newspapers have been full of info for several days. Not all shelters will let you have pets for a good reason could you imagine a shelter with maybe 100mscared animals in it? I sure wouldn't wantbtombe there. I know I'm going to catch crap for this but really people plan ahead a little.

Please help me understand the value or entertainment value of ridiculing a fellow Villager because he or she asks a question or shares a thought.

He participates in the joint decisions of the Emergency Operations Center when it is activated. It is the Emergency Operations Center that should be making news releases about the locations of Emergency Shelters and the conditions for their use; such as whether or not pets are allowed. The EOC should have made determinations regarding the locations of the Shelters long ago, and merely had to decide which ones to open first. A community development district (CDD) is a local, special-purpose government framework authorized by Chapter 190 of the Florida Statutes as amended, and is an alternative to municipal incorporation for managing and financing infrastructure required to support development of a community. CDDs have no function in notifying people of emergency situations. Look to your county EOC, the local TV and Radio stations, and your friends and neighbors regarding the current situation. After all, everyone else is just parroting the National Weather Service. |
