draining the ponds

I'd buy that except for the fact that the course is flooded from the pond they might be draining so it's going right back where it started.

Oooooooo............I don't have the piping blueprints in front of me........didn't realize THE FACT of the water source vs. the specific drainage pond. Maybe, just maybe the source and the draining is different.

Maybe THE FACT can be determined by contacting the course manager rather than ToTV.

Yes, the sprinkling redistributes the water. I've seen the effects on the retention ponds.

I am impressed that the developers apparently have designed the villages so the golf courses flood before the houses, well done!! Not to offend the golfers, but I really appreciate that I am not cleaning up flood water from my house, and the golf courses will probably by playable as soon as they dry out.
It appears that by using the golf courses, major flooding was avoided without incurring major damage.
Now for all of you golfers, please feel free to let me know if I am wrong on the damage to the golf courses, and if so I am sorry for any damage.

I surmise you are an engineer with the eye of an engineer. I noticed that myself. I applaud the site developer for keen insight and knowledge.

Seen some home sprinkler systems going this morning. Thought that was quite weird. Their sensors for rain must not be working.

We Villagers are so fortunate to have survived being in the eye. I will take a little flooding.

I don't understand negativity for no good reason.

Yep we have a pond katty corner to our home on a championship course and it flowed out to the course/sand traps and away from homes.

However, it doesn't explain why golfer's ball on the second shot always seems to flow right (opposite water flow as the pond rises) down hill toward and at the edge or in the ponds . Its the most common event on the second shot:D

It's a well know golfing fact that water and trees are natural attractants for golf balls. :D

Haven't found a sensor that works yet.
Perhaps you have one brand that does.
Would be willing to share what manufacturers name is ?

Sensors do go to the dark side....and maybe owners aren't here.

All our potable water goes into the ponds on the golf courses after treatment. That is why the CDD is asking us to not do laundry, flush once a day, run our dishwashers. Some of the water from irrigation percolates to the aquifer reducing the pond level.

You are correct, VT. The courses and retention ponds were specifically designed with this purpose in mind - to keep homes from flooding; a little inconvenience (major for some) in not being able to play but the flipside is dry homes.

I wonder if the Water Protection District realizes that and will drop the surcharge. Still waiting for them to announce that........

Stating FACTS is not people being negative.

The truth is that nothing was done to lower the ponds/lakes a week before a major hurricane was coming our way.

Imagine waking up Monday morning and the lake that was
behind you was now RIGHT BEHIND you.

We should all have more empathy for those that had worriesome
Events and are still living through them.

Looking off site for golf. Would have thought TV would have been better engineered to handle major rainfalls, this being a subtropical environment and all. Much of the CDD budget goes toward golf course infrastructure and right now the cost/benefit ratio seems lopsided

If you see the sprinklers on along Morse, Buena Vista etc that is also where they drain the retention ponds through sprinkling. Obviously, they usually do this action before there is overflow in the courses. So, if some of the sprinkling is being done into the flooded part of the courses the reason is because of the flooding caused by the hurricane and the sprinkler heads are now underwater.

The worst part of any hurricane is the unpredictably.

No one knew we would get 18" of rain or that the eye would come right over us.

That being said the lake is down considerably and we are a little less worried.

I know many had roof shingles missing, power loss, etc.

I have every confidence in T.V. that everything will be taken care of eventually.

This doesn't mean residents can'y have their opinions or voice those opinions.
