Missing/ignoring the point by design.....no matter what the real issue the need for partisan game playing, prejudice, etc, etc....anything that is not in line with their agenda is bad, et al.

When Vice President Mike Pence walked out of Sunday’s Colts-49ers game in Indianapolis on Sunday, he did so because he disagreed with the decision of several 49ers players to kneel for the national anthem. Well, according to one of Colin Kaepernick’s biggest supporters, disagreeing with anthem-kneelers constitutes “systemic oppression.”

Yep, seriously. Check the URL bar. You’re not at The Onion. Eric Reid — a safety for the 49ers who was one of the first players to join former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick in kneeling for the national anthem last year — says he feels oppressed by a politician disagreeing with him.:D

This ridiculous nonsense would never had gain attention "but for" the left's push to keep it in the headlights.

Agree with all Trump should have kept his opinion to himself, unless of course he was asked to give it. Perhaps he believed the MSM would never had asked so he volunteered

You just have to look at Donald Baldwin's posts to see that racism is very much a strong force in the Villages today. And elsewhere as well. I do not believe that people 30 or under are that much concerned with people's races but some people still sure are.

Do you, or don't you, believe we have a problem in the discrepancy of how people of color...are treated (and get away with it) by some law enforcement entities?

And if you do, what is your suggestion on how to shine a light on it...if not by kneeling in front of a flag that says it shouldn't happen?

And if you don't think it's any big deal or an issue...then I was correct about you and your ilk.

Of course there is a problem?
Is it as prevalent and rampant as the special interest groups, some minorities, some politicians and main stream media would have us believe? Absolutely not.

If the players wanted to shine a light on it they could have stayed in the locker room. Or they could have not showed up to play the game. To mention a couple of several options they could have exercised, that would not involve the disrespecting of the anthem and the flag!!

Truth hurting is like beauty...tis in the eye of the beholder.

There just were and are too many options other than what they chose to do and what the media chose to make a steady diet of day in and day out.

All that is required here on this forum is a mutual respect for each others positions.......right or wrong.

'Disrespecting' the flag would be to flip it off, standing on it or even turning a persons back to it. Or even cutting it up and wearing it as clothing, or draping yourself in it while it drags on the floor...as so many on the right do.

Kneeling while facing it is a compromise that still acknowledges that it is your country's flag, but that you don't feel it is living up to... what it is supposed to stand for.

The bottom line is that it is overwhelmingly whites, who have decided to address the action of kneeling why purposely ignoring the issue that gives rise to the protest in the first place...all the while pretending that the issue of inequality doesn't really exist.

And yes, I absolutely support your right to disagree in a respectful manner, I just wish you would acknowledge the real issue which is how you would really feel if your primary crime...was simply having black skin.

What kind of person do you think you would be right now...had you grown up being black?

Hopefully, you're smart enough to recognize (even if you won't do it publicly)...that you would be far from the same person that you are now.

My part African-American nephew back around nine years ago while visiting the Villages-- at age 6 or so-- looked at me and told me that his coloring was only as deep as his skin. Wisdom for a six year old. My late brother was white so they got heat from people of both white and black skin colors.

So silly of people to fall for that stunt. Pence knew he was going to do it, they told the press to stay in the van and not bother to even come into the stadium. It cost us $200,000 for Pence to fly in for that little stunt. Just because Fox makes a continuous big deal about players bringing attention to the crappy treatment cops give black people. It is NOT a protest against veterans, the flag, the anthem, or anything except the fact that cops shoot black men a whole lot more than they shoot whites, by percentage (not numbers). Fox is the only channel that has to run a disclaimer "For Entertainment Only", the only ones who won a lawsuit so they could lie and promote fake news, and they no longer can run that "Fair and Balanced" BS.

Genuine patriotism means insisting that government and citizens honor the inalienable rights of all people. America still operates with bias against people of color, women, immigrants, and the poor. In countless ways, the current administration has emboldened bigotry and intolerance. The vice president's walkout -- an obvious ploy to rally his political supporters -- merely exacerbates these racial and partisan tensions. Mike Pence has failed the American people by stooping to political showmanship instead of rising to embody the nation's highest ideals -- dialogue, pluralism, and free speech.

Why do you and your ilk continue to avoid...the REAL issue?

It's NOT about kneeling for the national anthem to show disrespect for the flag and our military.

It's NOT for the purpose of creating controversy about the NFL and its rules.

It IS about the systemic difference in the way blacks and whites are treated...by a lot of law enforcement entities.

Just the fact that you and so many others try to ignore the truth, is all the proof needed that you either don't see it as a problem...or don't care that it is one.

In other words, as a self-annoited patriot of this nation who is supposed to treat all the same, you should be appalled at the underlying reason for this peaceful protest...not the protest itself.

You have what you believe well delineated. You approach one with an air of trying to convince them your position is the correct one.

And go about questioning the person because they may not see it your way or share your opinion or view.



The platinum example is your paragraph stating what YOU believe constitutes disrespecting the flag. And then even rationalize those on their knee are doing so with reverence (you did not say that I did....but that is how it comes across).



I am old school. One does stand for the national anthem. I do not subscribe to the permissive attitude of much of the current generation that portends to see or do no wrong when it suits their agenda.



The players had and still have options that would have better served their cause.....they chose personal notoriety and disrespect of our national anthem and flag. Resulting in an underwhelming of their so called cause.



I am happy to be in the majority that see it that way.

"It's a very simple equation: The black athletes taking the knee represent the very best of our country. They're peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights to fight for justice and equality; the very things our nation were founded on.

Those screaming their hate at them oppose those founding principles, making them the worst America has to offer. No wonder they're being led by the very worst of them all."
