Kudos to American Legion Post #347, the nations largest American Legion Post. They voted to NOT watch ANY NFL games until this disgusting act of disrespect ceases. I'd like to give a shout-out to the other many organizations, Elks, K of C, Moose, and especially VFW, to follow. Thank you.

I absolutely respect those groups rights to do whatever they want...it is their right.

An expression I have always believed.....said by many over the years in different ways.

When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.

My addition to that would be accompanied by loss of discussion and a complete loss of respect for honesty and character.

And you won't even feel it. Suddenly you will have lost all the personal freedoms you thought could never be lost.

Thank you. These pseudo patriotic folks with their knee-jerk reactions are not looking at the deeper insult to our Constitution. In a uniquely American appeal to look at the racist brutality displayed against African American men by the police, the players are using the only platform available to them in a quiet and respectful way. That is their right under the First Amendment. To punish them for it, with lies about "disrespect for the military", is shortsighted at best and dangerous at worst.

I DO know that this entire flap is made up of phoney patriotism.

A patriot who really believed what is being said would have objected strongly to the Tea Party desecration, or our President chatting about tv ratings in a moment steeped in tradition to honor our flag.

A patriot would stand up to a lying deceitful President mo matter his political affiliation.

I join asking what folks know that about being black, about anything racial.

I recall, when he began this, his only remark was about the NFL making it a sissy game with their rules on protection. I do know, he has had a grudge since he was crushed by the NFL when trying to compete with them. The new league at that time took his advice and were destroyed

Patriotism is the respect and honor for our country we were brought up with. It is ingrained in many of our hearts. I do not understand how anyone can malign this sincere and deep feeling that we have for this land.

My grandparents on my fathers side came from Germany and my grandparents on my mothers side were here for many generations. They both stood when the flag passed by and put their hands over their hearts. We saw honor for our country in school and in church and at scouts. Many of our neighbors and family members served in the military. Some died for this phony love that we cherish.

Everyone that I knew growing up felt the same, and those that I still know continue to feel

Patriotism.

Genuine.

Patriotism.

NOBODY is saying standing up for the flag and the National Anthem is not patriotic. What we ARE saying, but so many refuse to follow the logic, is standing up for the Constitution is ALSO patriotic. And the First Amendment gives those men the right and duty to protest mistreatment of fellow Americans. That is the heart of the protest, but so many Fox viewers (and that's where it's coming from) refuse to see the deeper implications. For Trump to suggest that someone be fired for exercising their right to freedom of expression, to be fired for exercising the First Amendment to the Constitution, is a threat to the very foundation of our country. My father was Commander of post #854. My mother, a veteran of WWII was Vice Commander of post #854. I was Commander of the SAL at the age of 16 and after my tour became a full member of post # 854. The American Legion was my parents life as well as mine growing up. I know the mindset of the members. Both my mother and my father, both WWII veterans believed this among all things when it comes to patriotism. “ I may not agree with what you say but we will fight to the death for your right to say it”.
That pretty much sums it up. The NFL players are speaking their mind in a very respectful way and they have the constitution right to say it and we as Americans should NOT disrespect their right to express their feelings in this matter. As far as I’m concerned, the local post needs to grow up, read the constitution and abide by it. Just as they did when they took their oath to protect and defend the United States of America.

Well I can't find a better way to sow chaos and division in this nation than to have NFL players making unsubstantiated claims of police brutality and racism. Multi-millioniares paid for playing a child's game to me is in itself an oxymoron.

The NFL players may have a Constitutional right but as employees they can be fired.

So why has this nonsense continued $$$$$$ and those who are not willing to sacrifice giving up Sunday Football, sad when one considers what men and women have given up to keep this nation free. however we all have our priorities
