The removal of the one on the west side of the tunnel, near the starter shack, at Mallory...is much appreciated.

Was pleased they removed the warning strips located at the route 466 tunnel at Parr Drive and Wedgewood

wish they would remove the speed bumps at Bridgeport at Lake Sumter Landing

That's exactly what was done. The OP was completely vague.

From the online news site:
Community Development District 5 supervisors have rendered a decision on the fate of the speed bumps on the multi-modal path at the entrance to the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter.
<snip>
The board unanimously agreed to remove the pair of speed bumps at the entrance.

“I’m glad that matter has been resolved. It has lingered a long time,” said CDD 5 Chairman Walter Martin.

CDD 5 supervisors also agreed to remove the speed bump at the tunnel between Palmer Legends Country Club and the Bridgeport of Lake Miona.

The speed bumps will be removed within a month. It will likely take place at night when there is less traffic.

This also was a part of the announcement regarding the bumps at the gate.

“They did a great job,” CDD 5 Supervisor Jerry Knoll said at Friday morning’s board meeting.
“Now it goes back to individual automobile operator, golf cart operator and bicycle operator to be responsible,” he added.

(golf cart operator's are not responsible with the speed bumps, without the bumps they will not even slow down)

Unfortunately many of the entitled Golf Cart drivers do not recognize that cars have the right of way. They treat Stop signs as “suggestions”. Being that I am somewhat pessimistic, I would be willing to wager that we will be reading about a car/cart accident at this location within 90 days...

I am not sure of that. There have been no car /cart accidents since they took the gates down. I wonder if we need fewer hindrances and stricter punishments for failing to heed traffic signs, etc.

explain to me why this gate is any different than the others?? none of them need speed bumps...and as far as stop signs.... why pick on just golf carts... how many cars do you see roll thru them

If I remember correctly, there was a resident killed by a golf cart at the Bridgeport gate.
And then the gate safety became a focus point.

Depends on who gets to 4 way stop first? Yes, carts do have the right way sometimes. Vehicles also don't to stop at stop signs either. In fact most roll through stops sign, your NOT in line till you stop if other cars are at the intersection at four way stop, but STOP before entering roundabout WHEN NOTHING is coming.

JoMar 10-22-2017 03:07 PM

Once those driving cars understand the community they live in the better chance of safety.....unfortunatly many car drivers haven't figured out right of way in the round a bouts so why would we assume they would understand the community.

This is not a four way stop.

I think you are incorrect about a fatality.

Yes, you are correct when traveling on a street and a four-way stop is encountered. In this thread, I am referring to when the multi-modal path crosses a street, ususally at the gates. From the District’s website, Rules of the Road for Golf Carts, #7 - Yield to automobiles & #8 - Come to a full stop at Stop signs.

I will yield to cars. Not only is it the correct thing to do, but a car out weighs my cart by about 2000 pounds. The car will usually win.

That speed bump has been gone at least 3 months I think. Yes, agree.....very glad it is gone.

Bay Kid 10-23-2017 08:12 AM

Speed bumps for carts are a real pain, I mean a real pain. We are all adults and shouldn't need constant reminders to stop.

jsw14 10-23-2017 10:56 AM

I hear ya Bay Kid.. MY Kidney's can't take much more of the Speed Bumps ether.........

some golf carts despite the speed bumps present or gone have and will continue.

All the speed bumps accomplished at that location is to make the cartpath look like I-4 .

Absent stop sign or traffic devices cars do not always have the right of away (ROW).

For example where diamond lanes end and vehicles merge at gates or coming to stop lights, the vehicle in the lead has the right of way.

Unfortunately we have too many cars that have a need to go first and they intentionally speed up to pass a golf cart on the left.

That situation frightens me more than removing speed bumps

Personal Best Regards:

Anybody have a date this is scheduled?

Does anybody who reads this have any information as to when this work is scheduled, removal of the Bridgeport Bumps? Seems like an easy enough job to complete in one over night trip.

I agree. While some car drivers do recognize this and demonstrate common sense there are most who don't. They certainly wouldn't try to rear end a car in front of them but have no issue trying to run a golf cart of the road.:22yikes:

"They" said it would take up to a month to remove them; seems like, to me, that a ratchet and a socket to remove the nuts and a sledge hammer to break off the bolts would take at most, 30 - 45 minutes and that's with having to stop for carts coming through.

Bogie Shooter 11-08-2017 03:25 PM

I can hardly wait.....to see how many near misses of carts getting whacked!

Carts seem to pass thru other gates without speed bumps and not get hit by cars. There is still a bump with the drain ditch. This crossing technically has 4 speed bumps.
It will be great for golf cart travelers for them to be removed.

Yep went thru there this AM they're gone and did a good job. Actually cut the blacktop out and replaced it on both sides. Now we can see the cars and hopefully they see us. Was nice not jarring my back today!
