New phone books not up to date
 

Has anyone noticed that new homeowners (or those who have moved from one home to another earlier this year) do not have the correct info listed in the new phone book? I moved in March---and yet the listing shows my old address. Also, the people whose home I bought are listed in their old home. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Not a major problem but I worry that once the PO stops forwarding my mail, some of it may never get delivered to me.

I use the book for recycling.

OP, did you file a change of address with the newspaper? It is my understanding that early in the year there is an advertisement and form to fill out for changes. I think you need to fill out the form, the newspaper does not get updates from the phone (cable) companies.

You must make the change !!!!!

I used it to protect my transmission case while I changed the crossmember.

I like my neighbors approach...they just moved both phone books from their driveway to the spot where they place their trash pickup.

I find the phone book useful. Perhaps I'm "old school".

One does come in handy if a grandchild needs a little height at the table.

'unnecessary waste of trees'? I used to think so. But learned that phone books and catalogs aren't always a bad thing! ;) Now, we all know that not everyone has access to a computer for obtaining addresses and phone numbers. And perhaps some forget that there are still rural areas that use the old phone books for fire starting and in outhouses.

And because of the evil practice of clear cutting and other unsanctioned deforestation efforts, the US now has lots of laws and regulations that mandate the reforestation of logged out areas which insure the future of our environment!

My local area in Maine requires loggers/property owners to plant 2 trees [seedlings or larger] for every tree removed. And a local nursery gives away a free spruce seedling to every car that stops there during a three week period around the State's largest agricultural fair.

And in NH my friends have an annual complimentary visit from the State Forest Service in order to walk their acreage to identify what trees/growth should be taken away in order to maintain the health of their other trees.

Today's Daily Sun might be printed on last year's recycled phone books! ;)

I add the phone book to the pile the weekly Recreation News goes in each week.
We could start a thread on when was the last time you used the phone book? Door stop!

I use mine as a base for making string quilts. It is later torn away but I do find a use for the old one once new one arrives. The majority of quilts go to charity also.

one of the new books has a cross reference section that lists home towns by state. its pretty cool, you can look up your home town and see if there any villagers!

Ours goes straight to recycling also. Haven't used a phone book in years.

Save one for your great great grandchildren to see. They won't be around in a few generations, they'll be antiques.

Phone book? I kinda remember those, along with manual typewriters, dot matrix printers, and telegraph machines.

I did not know this. We ourselves are not moving, but thank you for the information.

I suppose you could call in the change if you do not subscribe to the newspaper.

We bought June 2016 and still have not made it into the book.

My wife uses phone books for step stool. With Google is easier to just google than thumb through bunch of pages. for your problem sometimes it takes over 6 months for the updates if you moved pass cutoff date. It tool 9 months for use to make in the phone book after we moved in.

Sweatman When you received your recreation pass they asked you if you wanted to be in the phonebook. So obviously you said no. If you want to be in the phonebook go back to where you received your recreation ID and give permission to be in the phonebook. There is a form in the front of the phonebook where anybody can make changes to their information. It is your responsibility as a homeowner to make the changes. The actual Villages phonebook is helpful because it does have cell phone numbers of your friends and neighbors if they desire to provide them. The other phone books are a waste for me.

When we received our Villages ID in August of 2016, we did indicate we wanted to be in the phone book and furnished our information. We knew we would not be in the 2017 directory, but we are not in the 2018 edition either.

These books are never up-to-date. I do appreciate the book and we do use it often. i hope they don't become obsolete as I am the type of guy that still uses floppy disc in my computer.:D

I agree. I am way more likely to use the phone book than to call 411.

And why in the world would anyone bring them to the postal stations when you can simply put them with the recycling? It's beyond me...
