Mezza Disappointed Luna

My wife and I were craving pizza and decided that we would try Mezza Luna Italian Restaurant. We called up to place and order for takeout and was told there was a 10% surcharge on all takeout orders.

We never heard of anything like that before, (pizza boxes must be more expensive then washing dishes and the help needed for that). We decided to order anyways hoping that the pizza would be superb.

An extra cheese and sausage pizza was ordered. Turn around time for the pizza was excellent. Unfortunately that was the only good thing.

The cheese tasted like a mixture of ricotta and mozzarella and the sausage was hard, crumbled up and tasteless.

What a Mezza disappointment. We will not be going there again.

You realize "mezza" means half, dont you?

dnobles 11-02-2017 08:42 PM

Steve Y 11-03-2017 05:39 AM

I like Fliippers also but we wanted to try something new and see if we could find another good pizza place

rubicon 11-03-2017 05:50 AM

We have gone to Mezza Luna three time and three times we were disappointed.

Giovanni's does better but try and get a table

What's the difference between Mezza Luna and Giovanni's?

Mezza Luna is an Italian Restaurant attempting to cook Italian using Italian ingredients .

Whereas Giovanni is an Italian from Naples who brought with him his home town recipes. My parents were Neapolitan and Giovanni's menu duplicates my mother's home recipes. Yea I'm bias here and my mothers meat sauce so thick and rich was the best:D I had my wife mentor with my mother for many years I'm not stupid

Mezza Luna

I have never had their pizza, but I love the other food I have had. Especially like the Veal Parm and the Pasta e fagioli soup. I will be going back.

Chatbrat 11-03-2017 07:47 AM

Been there 3 times, the last was the final blow

Where is NYPD pizza?

raynan 11-03-2017 09:46 AM

Buena Vista, left on 466, go past Bone Fish, and it's on the right at the right end of a strip plaza.

salpal 11-04-2017 07:31 AM

I've never had their pizza, but agree with sallybowron that their food is excellent. It is my favorite Italian restaurant around, their gravy/sauce is the best and have never been disappointed. Their service is excellent. To each his own, but IMHO, Mezza Luna beats Giovanni's. The last time I ordered Chick Parm at Giovanni's, the chicken was still frozen in the middle. Giovanni's does have great pizza, but for me, NYPD is best pizza around. But as I say, to each his own which is why they make chocolate and vanilla.

We really like the pizza and the stromboli. Their sauce is so fresh tasting.

Assuming you are northbound.

bilcon 11-08-2017 07:23 AM

Try Giovanni's new deli-restaurant on 301 just right of 466. Pizza whole or by the slice. The food is good also and Giovanni is always there.
Sorry, you have to use your car.

bilcon 11-08-2017 07:30 AM

Is Mezza Luna still open? I went by yesterday and didn't see any signs on the building. Maybe I missed them. What a big loss if they closed.

Ha! Ha! Ha! I stopped in for my last time about 8 months ago and there were 20-25 people eating and 5 people at the bar. They had one waitress, no bartender, and a clueless manager. That waitress quit the next day. She was too good for that place.

The best place for pizza is chefs of Napoli, it’s the closest we have found to NY pizza. Kathy
Also we have been to Mezza Luna many times, their food is excellent, very pleased.

Was there tonite. Service was prompt. Food wasexcellent. Baked clams were real...not a bunch of bread crumbs in a clam shell...whole clams with the stuffing on top. Linquine with fradoovalo calamari was wonderful.

I guess if you go to an eyetalian restaurant for pizza you might be disappointed. For those from the cow pastures..lyou go to a "pizzeria" for pizza..go to a restaurant for eyetalian food.

Nothing wrong with mezzaluna.

Chatbrat 11-26-2017 01:03 PM

Love Gpsma, about people from the "cow pastures" that don't know squat about eyetalian food--you're preaching to the white bread, mayo, ham & American cheese crowd

We spent a summer in Italy. Now that’s good food. Problem here is someone needs to know how to make gravy and sauce it correctly

Chatbrat 11-26-2017 02:09 PM

The trouble here is good ingredients, cheese , veal, cost $$ -most people IMHO in TV will not spend $$ on a regular basis for quality authentic good fine food
