Looking at exterminators any suggestions

Im looking at having my property sprayed professionally or doing it myself. I see many pest control companies working in the villages. Does anyone have any recommendations on doing this yourself rather than hiring someone. I’m sure the quote of $250 for a courtyard villa they gave me is 80-90 % labor. We are currently pretty pest free and want to stay that way.

Heron's $89 (may have been a special, but you can ask.) They treat inside and out, and then come every other month to retreat outside. Inside is "on demand". See a live bug indoors, gave a call, they come within 24 hours.

In Inverness there is a store called "You Kill Em". With a very helpful staff. Talk to them and become a bug killin' machine. You can do better than the bug guys.

Is it $89 for the year or $89 for the month?

Originally moving to Florida in 1983, I have never had the need for the services of a pest control company.
The few times I have had a problem, I handled it myself.
The issues I am speaking about are fleas one time (from my dog) and on occasion, ants (ant traps and Terro do work!).

You will always see a roach once in a while.
This is Florida, remember? They were here first!
One roach does not necessitate having an ongoing contract with a pest control company.
Villagers are obsessed with having some form of service when most of it is totally unnecessary.

If you have an issue, take care of it yourself instead of doing more damage to the environment on an ongoing basis.

I have a neighbor who does it himself but he is a master gardener.
Your property is not large and you are a frog, I recommen doing it yourself
if you know how to do it. Why drop money down every two or three months
If you don’t need to.

I agree.

Why drop money down every two or three months if you don't need to.

But even more than that, why poison the environment at all if it isn't necessary??!?
The OP already stated that they are pretty much pest free, so why do anything unless you truly have a problem?

We have a CYV also and been here 9 years. We spread a band of granular bug killer (Spectracide) around complete foundation quarterly and spray "Permethrin" around all windows, doors and eaves every quarter also and we have never had any bugs. 1 Bag of Spectracide cost about $20.00 and lasts a year and a bottle of Permethrin (mixed with water properly) cost about $35.00 and will last about 7 years. That brings total cost PER YEAR to $6.66 or .55 per month. Permethrin is the same product the bug companies use. Good Luck.

I've used them all....Deans is the best by far!

Here’s to you, Mrs Robinson. I agree with what you are saying. I personally know the poster of this thread and he is very handy. If he sees no bugs, why bother. Maybe give one treatment in eatly April. Why spend $250 or more a year.

Mrs. Robinson

You don't recommend regular bug treatments. I had a termite inspection done when I bought my home and am cllear but should I be having regular preventative treatments for termites?

Thx

For info:

You are going to get many opinions, be aware though many termite treatments also serve as pest treatments. I mention this because it seems to be important to you.

Taurus SC is commonly used as a termitecide. It is also effective against ants and other common pests. It is available on Amazon. You are going to get a lot of scare posts about you must use a professional and you have to dig a trench around your home. In fact the professionals just spray Taurus sc once around your home once or twice a year. It is a very easy DIY job.

No, I don't recommend regular bug treatments of any kind and I don't recommend termite "preventive" treatments either.

If you have a concern, have a termite inspection every couple of years.
One of my houses in south Florida was 30 years old and never had termites and I never treated or did anything preventive.

By the time most of the houses in TV have a sign of termites, we will all be pushing daisies up with our chests!

You can go to the big box stores and get the chemicals you need. There is one that even has an electric (battery) pump. Spray once a month and you should be fine.
I would get a chemical for the outside that includes termites and spray that once a month. I would also use a professional co for termite protection as you are actually buying insurance.

Exterminator

Mrs. Robinson

I've seen your posts that you don't advocate bug treatment plans but wonder if this includes termite treatments? I had an inspection done when I bought my home and am clear but should I have regular treatments?
As a long-term resident would appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks
.

Mrs. Robinson - does this include termite treatments. I had an inspection done when I bought my house and am free but wonder if I need regular treatments an by who? Thx

Anyone who has read my comments over the years regarding any type of pest control, knows I don't recommend ongoing pest control (contracts) treatments ever.
I only believe in treating a problem when you have one, and not using chemicals because you want to prevent a bug from entering your property.
Others may disagree, but ongoing treatments are simply indiscriminate use of chemicals when there is no apparent reason for doing that.

Most of these chemicals leave a residual poison in your home and yard and build up over time; they leech into the ground water and poison the environment.

If you have termite concerns, have a termite inspection every other year or so, but prepared for the company to sell you their service. :(
These pest control companies have put the fear of God into most Village residents, when in fact, their service is totally unnecessary.

If you care about the environment and future generations (your grandchildren), you will only use these chemicals when it is absolutely necessary and not as a preventive.

There's no service by Heron for $89.00 per year.
