The year before we left we got 4 ft of snow in 2 weeks time. I don't miss it one bit!

Topspinmo 12-24-2017 07:39 AM

And when the earth makes it elliptic path further away from the sun and create another ice age Florida will be central Florida will be coveed in snow.

Sure do not miss driving on black ice. Spent some of New Year's Eve 1983 backwards stuck in a snow bank outside of Cheyenne, WY. The snowplow pulled me out after a few hours and I got into a hotel late. 1983 was a year of calamity with the Davis Creek Mudslide occurring little over a mile from where I was working at Bower's Mansion's concession on Memorial Day ONE KILLED AS A NEVADA MUD SLIDE FLOODS LAKES AND DESTROYS HOMES - NYTimes.com then the tire rod put on backwards by a Salt Lake City garage a few days after that. New Year's Eve in a snow bank seemed appropriate. 1984 just had the attempted carjacking of the same car involving all this. Part of my wanted to say "Take the damn thing". But I fought back instead. Unarmed small white guy in suit at 2:30 AM. Easy to wrest the car door his was threatening to slam on my legs away from him. Went car less for 5.5 years after that while using the Twin Cities bus system and Jennifer as a chauffeur/roommate/girlfriend.

Had done many turns with this car on a freeway in Salt Lake City too going around in circles and ending up facing oncoming traffic. Probably same trip as the snowbank thrill outside of Cheyenne. Room service and watching Porky's 2 was that New Year's Eve. Porky's II: The Next Day (1983) - Rotten Tomatoes

It’s a white Christmas in Michigan. 4 inches so far. Snow blower, sled, gloves, and fun ready.

Best ice scraper I've ever owned is now in a cheap shadow box...hanging prominently in the garage. :D

Looking outside to 6 inches of snow. Someday for us will be April 2019. Then I will take a picture of the snow shovel, and hang it in the lanai. Under it will be a table with a candle. Anytime it snows more than an inch up here, I will light the candle, take a picture and share it with our (former) northern friends!

Psa1000 12-25-2017 05:52 PM

It is like being in a snow globe in Upstate New York. It isn't that bad if you don't go outside :)

I use mine to scrape up stuck-on bits when mopping the tile floor. Hold onto the brush end and don't have to bend over!

April 2019 for us too! that will be a great spring!

This is what it looked like for us in MI yesterday. About 6-8 inches of snow and today the temps are bitter cold (low -5/ high 10). About the same for the rest of the week. Ok, now that Christmas is over the white stuff can go away :cold:

manaboutown 12-26-2017 10:19 PM

Ice scraper up north = bug scraper down south.

This is the main reason I moved from Massachusetts. Just can't take the cold anymore.

Make it sooner than later. You won't regret it.

rjn5656 is correct. I left Taxachusetts after the Blizzard of ‘78.

Ah! but I also remember, and miss, the gorgeous Spring, Summer and Fall in beautiful New England - a far cry from the oppressive heat in sunny Florida.

DrGinny 03-04-2018 05:55 PM

I hear you!

graciegirl 03-04-2018 06:00 PM

People move to Florida for the warm weather.

Every day. By the thousands.

I am lucky to be one of them, but I am not being cocky or gloating to those who said that on the thread yesterday.

Sniffle.

Florida summers extend for many months and are very humid and hot. Most folks essentially spend their summers indoors in air conditioned environments during the day and of course drive air conditioned vehicles between air conditioned structures. Some well-fixed long term Central Floridians whom I have met escape the long hot and humid summers by traveling "up north" somewhere cooler for a good chunk of the summer much as snowbirds escape their rough winters in Florida.

Central Florida experiences relatively short but cold winters as freezes do occur. Winter in Central Florida is rarely bikini weather much of the time! Of course the Tampa to Orlando stretch of Central Florida lies in the infamous lightning belt which ranks region #3 in the world for lightning strikes. Heavy road congestion in season, sink holes, love bugs, actually all kinds of bugs, hence the need for "birdcages" over pools and patios and the need for the extensive use of pesticides, hurricanes and tornados add to the situation.

It seems to me older folks such as myself do not tolerate cold easily (I never liked it) and don't want to deal with shoveling snow, driving in it or slipping, sliding and falling on ice. Hence they are motivated if not driven to escape it by moving to a climate offering a more hospitable winter.

Also for many retirees escaping high cost of living, high tax states runs a close second to escaping long dreary winters.

IMHO many of the thousands of retirees moving to Florida daily are weather, high cost of living and and high taxes refugees. They are moving "from" rather than "to".

I love heat as well but not high humidity along with it which does make a huge difference in how hot it actually feels. NWS Heat Index

I worked outside in all weather for 20 years. Heat up to 102, cold down to -8, rain, wind, snow, darkness. I love the heat and humidity.

Good! Some people obviously do and others are untroubled by it.

billethkid 03-05-2018 07:12 AM

If there are no palm trees I know I am too far north.
If it ever snowed in TV we would be relocating further south!!!
The only snow I care to see is in a Christmas card scene.
