Can we somehow use our mailbox number instead of our village address?
It would be a useful option to use on occasion.
|
Do not know why but why not ask the USPS? You get opinions here along with right and wrong answers.
|
Why?
|
Because they might live on Dressendorfer Drive? Try spelling that to a service rep.

I specifically told my realtor that I would not buy a house up in the northern sections where they have numbered streets plus a street name. (7415 SE 172nd Legacy Ln). Many of those are ridiculous. |

Perhaps because the same p.o. box number occurs at multiple mail centers? Even adding a line to indicate the Village of the postal station can lead to confusion...a friend's GPS kept sending them to the Village of Bonita when they were trying to visit friends on Bonita Dr!

Test, send a letter to your box.

There is occasion when you might want someone to mail you something and not have your home address. There are a lot of people of questionable character, even in the villages. |

To answer your question....Yes I would pay more money for the same designer home anywhere but Marion County with their silly street names. |
A few years ago someone in my neighborhood used a similar dodge so their renters could use their postbox and not have to use general delivery in Lady Lake.
It caused problems in the long run if I recall correctly. |

Looking to buy soon and the street names and different Village names confuse me. What counties are the different town squares located in? Which county has the lowest taxes?
|
Spanish Springs is in Lake County, Sumter and brownwood are in Sumter county.

Your mailbox number was given based on when you bought when you section was built. Our neighbor, next door, has one row up from us. When, they were away, we got their mail. THEY GOT FAR BETTER SEATS THEN WE DID-but, at least we are not BOTTOM ROW.. |

Actually scratch that, my biggest regret will be my longish street address in Marion County. |

ADVICE-you ask about taxes-PERHAPS YOU ARE FROM ONE OF THE HIGH TAX STATES-NY, NJ.CALIF. As ex-New Yorkers, our house is larger here, out land is larger here and our TAXES are about 2/3rds less. Our auto insurance is about 1/3 of what we used to pay for the same coverage. We have an all electric house and our electric bill is about half of what we used to pay for electricity and GAS heat. I BELIEVE, the electric rate I KNOW the water rate and the BONDS are higher in the NEWER sections. If, you are buying a resale, I would drive around to see traffic flow. To see parking. To see dogs.To meet people who live there and just to talk. YOU CAN LEARN A GREAT DEAL FROM JUST LISTENING. |

We have been in our house in Sumter County for just over a year. Our real estate taxes are about 1% of the value of our house. |

However no need to move to Fenny! We are happily located just south of CR 466. |

The answer is unincorporated Sumter County, but not within Wildwood city limits. |
Short answer.....no
|
As a retired carrier of the USPS I will tell you the answer would be no. All of the computerized equipment used to sort mail is done by address that you have on your house or official PO Boxes. Other wise it will be returned to sender, address unknown.
|
I worked for Address Management in the USPS for many years before retiring. Unless the entire system has changed drastically in a few years, The answer is no, you cannot use your mailbox number instead of your street address. All letter mail is automated and is not looked at by a human until it gets to its final destination. The way that automation works is that it reads the mail and sorts it based on a national database of addresses. Your mailbox number is not listed in that database. Using only that number will result in your mail being returned to sender.

An ambulance or fire truck will never find you without a street address.

We've been that route. |
Many of the major cities in Florida use numbered street and avenues. Miami for one, and where I grew up, St. Petersburg is another. If used properly it's a great way to find a location quick. I grew up at 670 17th Ave. South in St. Pete. That is 17 blocks south of Central Ave and 7 blocks west of Tampa Bay.
Central Avenue runs east to west and divides St. Petersburg into north and south. So if you lived at 17 ave. North, and I live at 17th Ave. South, you would be 34 blocks north of me. Avenues run east and west, streets run north and south and start at Tampa Bay. If you are on 4th Street North, you are 4 blocks west of Tampa Bay and somewhere north of Central Avenue. The easiest place in the world to find an address without looking at a map is St. Petersburg. There are exceptions, a few streets have names, however they are in alphabetical order. Because Tampa Bay isn't at 90 degrees and slants to the northeast. Streets east of 1st Street are labeled as Northeast. So 2nd St. Northeast would be north of Central and east of 1st St., there is only about 3 or 4 streets that are northeast. http://www.stpete.org/maps/docs/DowntownMap.gif |
Thanks, always wondered about the "different" street names in Marion!
