Still Sort of Stunned....

I retired Friday (10/30) and I am still in a state of shock, having a hard time believing it.
We'll be headed down to TV for a month or so later this week, then back north for Christmas, than back to TV for the really cold months.
No more weeks or weekends in paradise, but now enough time to really enjoy.
Someone please pinch me in case I'm dreaming.

Congrats, Steve. It will take you about a month and then you'll realize, Monday's aren't so bad after all. Everyday is a WEEKEND!!! YEAH!!
Good luck can't wait to have you in the bubble more often. Let us know when you get here so you can join in on the fun !!!

SteveFromNY 11-01-2009 01:21 PM

Thanks Kathie - will do! See you soon!

EdWilliams 11-01-2009 01:21 PM

Welcome, Steve --

Don't worry that retirement will mean time on your hands. Once you become involved in the many activities in The Villages, you will wonder how you ever found time to work.

Cheers,

KathieI 11-01-2009 01:24 PM

Ed, your right. I need a vacation from retirement!! I'm exhausted!!

ejp52 11-01-2009 01:25 PM

Congrats Steve. :beer3:

Niels 11-01-2009 01:35 PM

Congratulations on your retirement. I just retired myself this past Wednesday 10/28. My actual retirement date is in the middle of November but Wednesday was my last day in the office.

I think it will take a couple of weeks to really sink in. Right now it seems like I'm on vacation.

Opulence 11-01-2009 01:50 PM

Great News!

Retire

Steve, Enjoy. I retired as of 10/31 from the post office. I am sure we both will find a lot to do in villages.

obxgal 11-01-2009 02:28 PM

Congratulations Steve. You'll be amazed how busy one becomes once they retire. Just ain't enough hours in the day to get all you want accomplished.

I imagine it does take a while to sink in, that is for sure. Congrats and enjoy your new found freedom!!

EdV 11-01-2009 03:46 PM

Steve, I think the first thing you should do when you arrive in TV is buy a Hawaiian shirt, and maybe a panama hat and have KathieI take a picture so you can update your avatar.

graciegirl 11-01-2009 03:56 PM

Steve. So glad for you. We will be here until just before Thanksgiving and then return first of January for the season. We G's would love to meet you two.

EdVinMass, you read my mind. His avatar looks like he belongs in Montana. I promise to take a new picture for him at the first TOTV lunch as a man of leisure!!

Kelsie52 11-01-2009 04:24 PM

Congrats Steve--I envy you ----we are going down to TV for a week right after thanksgiving --hoping to find the right --spot !!!

Congratulations to both of you! I agree with Kathie as far as it is likely to take about a month to really believe you are retired (at least that's the way it worked for my husband).

Good luck, and I'll meet up with both of you when we are all down in TV at the same time.

djplong 11-01-2009 05:38 PM

My mom retired a few years ago and even though she's in the middle of Nowhere Indiana, she can't believe how busy she's been.

Russ_Boston 11-01-2009 05:40 PM

Congrats Steve. I'm jealous!!!

Let's meet up when I come down next year.

Oddly, that picture was taken in TV at the playground in LSL. I'll update it with something else!

Thanks for all the kind wishes everyone!

Pinched Again

Hi StevefromNY,

I'm so happy for you! We just bought a home at TV. We can only do the long weekends for another two years 'til hubby retires. We so look forward to being in your shoes. Wish you all the best!

:beer3:

nkrifats 11-01-2009 08:55 PM

Steve from NY,
Congrats to you.
I have until July of 2011 before I do the big exit.
Part time in the villages until then.

Enjoy each day.

bestmickey 11-01-2009 09:00 PM

CONGRATULATIONS Steve! Have a happy and healthy retirement.

faithfulfrank 11-01-2009 09:14 PM

Congrats Steve!
I have 610 days.......a widget on the laptop keeps track.
Until then, we only get to be here 2 months a year. We are here now, in fact, until the weekend prior to Thanksgiving.
We love it down here......it is always hard to go back to NY.

Frank

Let's remember a very nice post from Steve, the day he retired. We celebrated that milestone with him and then a few months later he was diagnosed with the cancer. Very sad, so young and so vibrant and so so nice!!!

Kathie, this is sad news. We should all be mindful that a long life isn't promised to any of us. You've done a fine job of celebrating Steve's memory.

Steve, I don't get to do it until April. My brother-in-law, who has been retired for a number of years, takes great pleasure in calling me and asking me what day it is. When I tell him it's Tuesday (or whatever day it really is) he yells into the phone...NO...It's Saturday, because when you're retired everyday is Saturday. So, enjoy all your Saturdays. I'm sure you've earned them.

faithfulfrank 09-26-2010 01:22 PM

I have never met Steve, but am very saddened and moved by this news. 56 is much too young. I am 52, and plan on retiring from the Fire Dept. this next year and moving down there full time. Some think I'm nuts, but this is a reminder to me that life is precious, and I want to do this, and that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. I want to have as many years as a Floridian as I can.

My prayers are with his Family.....

Respectfully,
Frank

EdV 09-26-2010 02:15 PM

Well now it’s our turn to be stunned at Steve’s untimely passing. And it was in this thread that I cajoled him into changing his avatar from one of him wearing a heavy Fall coat to the nice picture of him wearing a bright Hawaiian shirt at the beach, which will now remain in all of his posts.
