2018 Grammy's ratings down from last year.
I didn't watch. Did you? If so what was your favorite part?
Grammys 2018 Ratings See a Big Drop From 2017′s Numbers | 2018 Grammys, Grammys : Just Jared |
I watched the last half hour and didn't recognize one of the songs that were nominated for record, album.. etc.. I think I only knew one performer... but I did see the Broadway tribute with Patti LaPone ( sp).. it was great.

Self-promoting trash.

The last time I watched the Grammys was 1989, that's the year Best Heavy Metal Recording went to Jethro Tull, this is true. What's even funnier was two years later when Metallica won for The Black Album, they thanked Jethro Tull for not releasing a record that year. I've seen Jethro Tull twice, first time was in 1972. For those who don't know, Jethro Tull is a great progressive rock band, not a heavy metal band. Below is Ian Anderson lead vocalist and flutist of JT.

Patti LuPone performing Don't Cry For Me Argentina and, of course, Tony Bennett. A nice break from the rap and hip hop which are OK in smaller doses.

It reality it was not one song, but it played that way. The folks I was talking to never heard of JT. Thick as a brick, the album, not my buds :) As far as Grammy's? I am just tired of the award shows being used for an agenda, I cannot watch. It is too bad as there are some talented people that I enjoy listening to. |
Grammys are a total farce of self promotion, actual talent is not a part of it any more. Much like the current mentality of "everyone gets a trophy" for even the lamest of efforts. Seems like the nastier your song the more Grammys you get.

I also quit watching any of those award shows years ago, but my husband happened to be flipping through the channels when Bruno Mars was on and we did watch his performance. I really enjoy him. Not only is he a great performer, but I've never heard him use his platform for politics. I could be wrong about that last part, but that is what really turns me off about so many musicians, actors, etc.
Glad to hear on the morning news that Bruno Mars finally got some recognition for his talent. |
lADY GAGA, SHAKIRA, AND PATTI LAPONE WERE JUST AMAZING!!!!
|
They shot themselves in the foot for most people caring to watch.

Oh NO!!! Please don't tell me that I missed yet another Awards Show.
Been on a losing streak here - missing almost every one of these self-promoting self-congratulating self-absorbed TV/movies/music/theater Prima Donna award shows. The last one I really watched was on a Zenith tube-TV set and if I was out recorded it on a VCR tape. I think Johnny Carson hosted. And zero politics. And very few 'know-it-all' celebrities spouting their views to the public. Man I must be getting old...sounding like my father when Elvis and the Beatles came out. |
I always look in to see the opening act, hoping it would be Bruno Mars. It wasn't, and again it was an "in your face" political statement and I changed channels. But I was glad I looked in again and saw all of Lady Gaga's performance. It was amazing.

I liked Rihanna. I actually don't find her pretty personally but Va-Voom.
