Blasting sounds???
All day long, here in the house and out on the golf course, we have been hearing what sound like blasting sounds that you might hear up north when contractors are blasting rock.
Anyone have an idea of what these sounds are? Doesn't seem like there'd be much to blast down here. Thanks, Len |
I was just getting ready to ask the same question. Live in Belvedere and have also been hearing them all day. Lots of them! My husband says there is a "Pine Castle Bombing Range" in the US Naval Reservation in Ocala National Forest---probably about 50 air miles from here. Maybe that's what we're hearing?

Tpop, I'm so glad you posted that. I jumped out of my skin. At first I thought it was astronauts breaking the sound barrier but after 1/2 dozen times, I thought it was earthquakes.... OMG, its awful. Does anyone know what this is???? Its happening more frequently as the day goes on???? Please let me know before I jump under the covers...

Same kind of thoughts here, thought it was jets breaking the sound barrier, reminded me of the start of many earthquakes I have experienced in my life, then figured it is probably blasting.
Another thought - they are building a bridge over Highway 44 in Wildwood, could be they are using heavy equipment to drive the supports into the ground. (If so I'm glad I don't live right in Wildwood, it would have to be jarring the dishes right off the table.) |

Sand Blasting? . |
Bombing Range :agree:

We live in Bonita and we have been hearing and feeling them as well. We just moved down here from the Maine Coast and the blasts are very similar to the blasting of ledge which precedes any building up there.

From Orlando Sentinal
TAVARES – Law-enforcements officials in Lake County said they were "slammed" with calls this afternoon from residents concerned about window-rattling, earth-shaking reverberations in their neighborhoods.
But the shaking and trembling vibrations were caused by live bombing training at the U.S. Navy's Pinecastle Bombing Range in the Ocala National Forest in northern Lake County. The range has been bombing all day on the first of eight days of bomb training, said Kaylee LaRocque, deputy public affairs officer for the Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Today's bombing began at 10:30 a.m. and will end one hour after sunset. The same schedule will continue Nov. 14 to Nov. 15 and again on Nov. 17 to Nov. 19. On Nov. 16, the time change is noon to one hour past sunset and on Nov. 20 the timing is shortened from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. People with noise complaints can call 1-800-874-5059. "We have received calls reporting noise and vibrations from as far north as Lady Lake and as far south as Howey-in-the-Hills," said Sgt. John Herrell, a spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department. "We have also had similar reports from callers in Sorrento." Herrell said the bombing range will have active exercises for about two weeks. The Navy has held a special-use permit from the U.S. Forest Service for target practice at the bombing range for about 50 years. The Pinecastle Bombing Range is located about two miles west of State Road 19. The site is the only place on the east coast where the Navy has live impact training. |
I knew you'd have the answer.
Thanks everyone for the info.
I knew where to go to get an answer on a "Villages" question. Len |
We live in Stonecrest and we heard and felt it too! My doors were shaking in my house.
I thought it was an earthquake. Or maybe some promotional stunt to go with the movie "2012" LOL |
Was there enough shaking and vibration to crack drywall, stucco etc.?
|
50 miles?

Glad to hear it wasn't an earthquake. |
I think most war veterans figured it out pretty quick.

Hi John, We are from Boothbay (Ocean Point). We took a ride through Highland Green some months back and thought it was beautiful! We are going to put one of our Maine plates on our new golf cart (red with gold pin striping) so you are apt to notice us . There is a lady in Bonita Villas and a couple in Mallory Square who are also from Boothbay. Doug |
