Snake in Lanai

This morning while letting our dogs out I came face to face with 48” black Racer snake in our lanai. I quickly screamed for my wife and sent her out with a broom to evict the visitor while locking the sliding door behind her. After about :10 she was able to get the visitor out the door, unharmed. Later this afternoon I found a partially digested bird egg left in my garage by some kind of snake, he is still on loose. Anyone else seeing increase in activity? For a small fee I will gladly rent out wife’s snake rustling skills.

Wasn’t that a movie “Snakes in the Lanai”?

Last weekend I had a red corn snake camping out on the top of the grill’s propane tank. This was the second time this has happened. I give the lid a good bang before I open it!

I keep my two killer cats out in the lanai...they are fearless...

Plus i keep them very hungry...this way anything crawling in is lunch

coffeebean 02-18-2018 07:33 PM

Are these lanais screened? If yes, how are the snakes entering these lanais?

lovinganimals 02-18-2018 08:03 PM

The snakes get in between the siding if it is not a concrete house. We had many on our lanai until my husband put that expanding foam along the sides of the house/lanai

Paper1 02-18-2018 09:22 PM

I’m sure mine today got in siding gap where lanai screen connects to house. I like that foam idea and plan on trying that. I suspect they are hunting anoles as that is where they come in.

I think the snakes were coming in under the screen door to the lanai . We had a threshold put in and haven't seen a snake since.

If snakes can get in, then insects can get in too. The vinyl siding homes are not really "screened" in, are they? The expanding foam idea seems to be the resolution to that problem.

At one time while walking barefoot, I stepped on a snake lying on the oriental rug in the dining room. It quickly crawled into our coat closet and up the sleeve of one of my coats. We think our cat brought it in. Sadly later that cat was killed by a snake.

Absolutely, she owned snakes earlier in our marriage and they don't bother her at all. I can't say the same.

Creepy story. Are you saying this happened at your home in The Villages?

Some of you are taking an intended light hearted post a little too seriously. Wife never in danger, door really not locked. Maybe you need to consider a hobby.

I loved your post and so did my husband. Especially when you used the word screamed. You have an amazing sense of humor. Lucky couple. You are witty, disarming and charming. And I gotta bet she is quick and funny too and appreciates your humor.

Keep 'em coming.

Ditto! I thought your post was funny too, Paper1. Real life can be like that sometimes and those are often the times we remember and laugh about the longest, after the trauma is over of course.

And fear or general dislike of snakes is not gender specific. No need to worry about the less than light hearted that don't get it. Those of us that did, well :mademyday:

My thanks to you and Gracie for kind words.

You’re lucky she didn’t decide she wanted another snake pet. Would serve you right for locking her out. (Just kidding. I loved your story. Grinned every time I thought about it. BTW, my ex hubby really would have locked the door just to make sure it didn’t get in the house.)

fromct 02-22-2018 11:12 PM

No offense........

Well, if I was one of those taking your post a little too seriously and my comment offended you, I apologize (but I'd still like to hear your wifes' side of the story)
