The "back way" from TV to Disney

Can't find it on the search feature and haven't driven it in a few years. Can someone refresh my memory on that back way to Disney?

Off the top of my head, can't remember. But when I put it into my GPS to avoid tolls, it usually takes me that way.

I don't know what you mean by the back way but I always take the turnpike to 429.

spring_chicken 02-27-2018 08:23 AM

The back way that I took a few years ago had several tolls, I don't mind that. It literally seemed like we were out in the middle of nowhere and within 5 minutes we were at a back entrance.
I don't like the 429 as it is jammed with traffic for several miles at opening time.

2newyorkers 02-27-2018 08:37 AM

I also take 429 and have never hit any traffic.

Goldwingnut 02-27-2018 10:10 AM

Take US-27 south to US-192 in Clearmont, follow that to the World Dr. entrance. That's the old "back way" into Disney.

SR429 (Turnpike Western Beltway) is now the fastest route to Disney if you don't mind a few tolls, get off at Western Way exit to enter near Coronado Springs resort.

If you're looking for a back way to the Magic Kingdom area take SR429 to the New Independence Parkway exit, go east and turn right onto Hamlin Groves Trail, follow to Reams Rd and take a right, about a mile down the road is a traffic light into the cast parking area, turn right, follow to stop sign and you will be behind MK at the Big Top Circus area, turn left for the Contemporary Resort, right for Grand Floridian/Shades of Green. This route saves lots of time on the busy days if going to the MK.

It’s 50 min from drive way to park for me via 429

bilcon 02-27-2018 10:24 AM

I take Fl turnpike to Route 429 exit toward Tampa. (toll road). Stay on Rt 429 until you see Disney exit. Back Gate is only a mile. Never had any traffic.

Us too. $3.25 toll on the Turnpike and $1.50 on 429 (each way).

Does this let you avoid the Transportation Center/Ferry Boat/Monorail?

It would if you were going to "meet some friends and have lunch" at the Contemporary or GF resort and parked at the hotel, then you could take the hotel monorail into the MK park entrance. From the Contemporary it is also easy to walk over to the MK entrance without the monorail ride.

Florida Turnpike to Highway 429 toward Tampa. Get off Exit 8 for Disney.

That was it! The Reams Rd way. You do not avoid the transportation station, but you do avoid the log jam of traffic on Western Way after you get off of 429.

429 exit at windemere onto 535

Lottoguy 03-02-2018 09:41 AM

The GPS Waze APP took us to 429 and the back way into Disney. So back that we entered the park WITHOUT PAYING the parking fee!!! Really strange and didn't realize it until we looked backwards and saw that gas station that is by the gate where you pay. Saved us $20.00 at the time. Hope WAZE takes us that way again.

Cedwards38 03-02-2018 10:59 AM

I do 429 also and have never experienced traffic problems. You also get a small break on tolls if you purchase a Florida Sun Pass sticker for your windshield and register an account online.

And at 75, you're still getting passed by those doing 85 or more. Of which there are quite few.

Buckeyephan 03-03-2018 02:59 PM

Take the turnpike to 429. Use exit 8 Hartzog Rd. When you loop around, it becomes Western Way. Take that to Buena Vista and follow signs to your chosen park. On the way back, take Buena Vista to Western Way to 429 to turnpike. We ate breakfast with Mickey and friends at the Contemporary last month. The guard needed to see our reservation before he'd let us into the parking lot.

Not at all what you are discussing. But question to a two newbie. Are there any groups to join that go to Disney often?? Bus or personal cars. Just asking.

vinricci 03-08-2018 08:29 AM

Just wait a few months, there will be a Disney monorail terminal at Brownwood.

Not sure of any organized groups, but I prefer to take the car. I have an annual pass, so parking is free. This allows me to migrate from park to park in the car without waiting for the monorail, bus...etc. If you have several friends with passes, it's much easier that way.

Just look in the list of clubs. There are probably more Disney groups than Mickey has fingers.
