Yamaha recall
this notice is from the on line paper...
Yamaha issues major recall over faulty brake cables in golf carts 2015 through 2018 gas and electric-powered golf carts |
From the other site
"Yamaha has issued a recall for 161,000 units to be brought in for repair. The hazard is that the brake cables on the golf carts can fail, posing a crash hazard. The recall includes model years 2015 through 2018 gas and electric-powered golf carts, personal transportation vehicles and utility vehicles. There have been 285 reports of brake cables failing. No injuries have been reported. Yamaha suggests consumers should immediately stop using these recalled golf carts and PTVs and contact a local Yamaha golf cart dealer to schedule a free repair. " |
Given the dearth of drivers here who seem to never use their brakes...it shouldn't be a big deal. :D

There have been apparently 285 reported instances of a brake cable issue out of 161,000 golf carts. It is not as if this is a common problem. The repair shop at The Villages Golf Cart Store will get busy and I suspect they will be giving out a lot of loaners.

Going to be like Takata air bag recall. Where are they going to come up with 161,000 new brake cables ASAP but do not use your golf cart in the interim. OK loan me a cart while I wait - fat chance. Liability issue settled. Whatever happened to consumer protection laws ?

Excuse me, The Villages Golf Cart Store. I am pretty sure you knew what I meant.

OK, a couple of points. I would not equate an airbag with a cable - a cable is much less complicated to manufacture. Secondly, it is possible that a new cable is not required - perhaps there is only a repair to the existing cable. Regardless, the sky is not falling.

Has anyone taken their cart in for service to check on the procedures to have the repair done.

I hope they provide  for the customers that will be lined up. I recently tried to make an appointment for another issue, and was given a date of April 26! :ohdear: |
Carts and Clubs is reaching out to their customers. The Villages Golf Cars is not.

I recieved a response from Carts & Clubs about the recall,
and it stated that they will get in touch soon, to schedule a service appointment. They will check the brake cable and if any fraying is found it will be replaced. If no fraying clips will be installed to keep it from doing so! |

I'm planning to use my golf cart for golf; but I plan to stay away from hilly courses. :evil6: |
Carts and Clubs sending a tech to my home on 3/14.
|
My letter stated that if my cart is one of them Yamaha will be sending a letter or you can get onto their site and check your model and serial number. I hate recalls, my current car has had 7 recalls in 2 years.

Always been happy with The Villages Golf Cars. Have had 3 carts from them over the years. Still have 2 of them. |

Hmmm...have a 2015 purchased from Villages and a 2017 from carts and clubs. Looked up model and serial numbers on CPSC recall list and both are affected. I have not received a letter or been contacted by either dealer.
Anyone else who confirmed their serial number still waiting for contact? Just wondering if they are still in progress or are done? Otherwise, I will call the dealers next week. Ps..I just came across carts and Clubs thread on TOTV and registered for their service call. Kudos to them for being proactive. |

is merely to assess the extent of the problem. Hopefully, it's an "easy fix" that they can immediately correct without involving loaner carts. |

Isn't 2015 when Yamaha went back to drum brakes and independant suspension ? Are they called G30/31 models ?
