Tiger Woods Injured

CNN is reporting that Tiger Woods has been "seriously injured" in an auto accident. "He has suffered facial lacerations." As reported, he was pulling out of his driveway at home, hit a fire hydrant and then a tree. He lives in Windemere, Orange County. The press release says it was not alcohol related.

It sounds quite bizarre. I don't understand how one can get seriously injured pulling out of a driveway, just repeating what the report claims. He wasn't driving a Toyota (where the gas pedal may be stuck), he was driving a 2009 Cadillac SUV.

Here's hoping the reports are exaggerated and that Tiger has a quick recovery.

Here's what Reuters reported

Reuters reporting that World number one golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car accident on Friday, a Florida newspaper reported. :22yikes:

The Orlando Sentinel, citing the Florida Highway Patrol, said Woods’ car struck a fire hydrant and a tree in Florida’s Isleworth community, near Orlando.

bestmickey 11-27-2009 03:47 PM

Tiger's publicist now reports that Tiger was in a "minor accident", has been treated and released from the hospital. YEAH!

graciegirl 11-27-2009 05:09 PM

We are HUGE fans of Tiger Woods and were so deflated when the breaking news came in about his "serious injuries". We were enjoying watching the Cincinnati Bearcats win and suddenly we felt like someone we knew was hurt.

So glad to hear he is o.k. BUT...the accident just doesn't seem right. It was in the middle of the night, well really early this morning and he crashed into a neighbors tree. If it wasn't alcohol, what was it? I hope whatever it was he learned not to do it again.

bestmickey 11-27-2009 05:17 PM

Well Gracie, according to my fav rag paper (New York Post), the accident capped a bad week for Tiger. Apparently, the Enquirer reported that Tiger has been having an affair with an event planner. Perhaps Tiger and his wife had a fight and he stormed out and drove badly while mad. That's my guess anyway. Too bad. I thought more highly of Tiger. :throwtomatoes:

katezbox 11-27-2009 10:03 PM

Or maybe, having been playing in Asia, his days and nights were mixed up and he was going for a drive to relax. Or maybe one of the children was sick and he was running out for juice or cough syrup or Tylenol. Let's stop the rumor mill here. No one deserves to be slandered just for driving at 2:30 a.m.

Tiger was initially labeled as being seriously injured because of the fact that he was taken away in an ambulance. No matter what the injuries consist of, if you are hauled away in an ambulance, the injuries are classified as "serious" until evaluated by a doctor at the hospital.

chuckinca 11-28-2009 01:06 AM

It was reported that Mrs Tiger saved him from the damaged SUV by breaking the rear window with a golf club. Guess Mrs Tiger carries a golf club at home in case Tiger gets the urge to hit one or maybe she was chasing him down the drive with it ???

islandgal 11-28-2009 06:04 AM

All the "rags" are reporting that he has been having an affair with a bombshell-looking blond. I have a hard time believing that - he has way too much at stake. Will have to check it out in the grocery line checkout.:1rotfl:

joannej 11-28-2009 09:52 AM

I thought he was trying to catch those fabulous day-after Thanksgiving sales by getting there early!!!! (Only a joke)

JimJoe 11-28-2009 09:54 AM

Let's wait for the true facts.

Whalen 11-28-2009 10:34 AM

Tiger should have taken the Letterman approach.
Go public, admit to whatever he was doing a 2am, say I'm so sorry and go on.

cashman 11-28-2009 03:00 PM

Tiger

should tell everybody to mind their own business. This is a private matter.

Russ_Boston 11-28-2009 03:29 PM

not necessarily. Damage to another person's property is a matter of public record and the accident report is also public record.

The reason behind the crash may be private and he can just say 'no comment' if he wishes.

NormaJean 11-28-2009 04:28 PM

Joannej, I love your sense of humor. Keep smiling.

collie1228 11-28-2009 05:32 PM

The New York Times reports that Woods was unconscious and lying in the road for "nearly four and one-half minutes". And his airbags did not deploy, so he must have been traveling at less than 30 MPH. Very strange. His PR flacks can say "no comment" all they want, but until Tiger stands up and tells the truth, the press will hound him relentlessly. There may well be a good explanation, but until he gives it to the press, his life is going to be hell.

graciegirl 11-28-2009 08:02 PM

If he wasn't going fast enough to deploy the airbags. Could Elin have used the golf club on him?

This is how stories get started.

Curiousity killed the cat.

I hope all that garbage isn't true on the web about his having an affair.

graciegirl 11-29-2009 09:12 AM

NO! NO! NO! I have my hands over my ears!

Here is a link from a very unreliable source. Say it ain't so Tiger!

http://www.tmz.com/2009/11/28/tiger-...v-lacerations/

Russ_Boston 11-29-2009 10:23 AM

I'll bet that is pretty close to the truth Gracie.

Makes more sense than her bashing the 'rear' window of a huge Escalade to save hubby. She's coming from the house - why not just get the extra set of keys? She went back to the house and grabbed a club?

I mean 'who cares', it's not our business if they were arguing etc. But since this is Tiger, the best case scenario would be complete truth to end any talk.

My guess is that since they know what is on the 911 tape (which will be made public in a week) they are trying to fashion a story that goes with the recording.

Stay tuned!

cashman 11-29-2009 10:55 AM

Golf

I heard from an unreliable source that Tiger and his wife were playing a round of midnite golf and one of them cheated by not counting all of their strokes.

The ensuing argument lead to a scratching contest. They broke the car windows and faked an accident to cover up their fight.

They left their kids alone for one minute and rumour has it that the kids will be suing them for neglegence. The court will probably give custody of the kids to Mark Omeara.

The various mistresses are going to sue also. Lawyers figure that Tiger will lose all of his money and be on welfare.

He will lose his playing card and return to the Nations Tour to try to requalify
for the regular PGA tour.

His various charity organizations are already thinking of returning some of his donations because they expect him to be so needy.

His CPA's are worried because he deducted the donations. When they are returned they will be taxable so his Lawyers will be asking the judge to leave Tiger with enough to pay his taxes. The mistresses it is said will probably not agree to these requests.

When I get more updates from my sources I will bring them to you as fast as I can because I see how important Tiger's private life is to you.

GatbTester 11-29-2009 11:28 AM

Tiger Woods

Come on people, I dare say that most of us have had accidents with our autos in one form or another and have caused some damage to ourselves or others. Let us give this guy and his family a break! He was not arrested, therefore the police did not find anything out of order, number one. Number two this is a private problem for the Wood's family to sort through, none of our business.....period!:ohdear::ohdear:

Russ_Boston 11-29-2009 11:39 AM

All I'm saying is that the reason behind it is private and he can choose to say something or not.

BUT

Let's not kid ourselves. When you or I or anyone have a public accident some things are not private. The 911 call is public record. The police report is public record. What people say at the scene that is heard by others is public record.

I'm just suggesting that Tiger, for his family's sake, should just say exactly what happened to STOP the talk. If that doesn't happen then the TMZ's of the world will hound him and his family even more than they do now.

I don't see anything about Letterman since he told the truth. This is a whole PR thing at this point.

chelsea24 11-29-2009 12:32 PM

I'll never understand...

Looks like Tiger couldn't keep his "wood" at home and was getting his "strokes" elsewhere!

I'll never really understand the male mentality. Here is, yet another, man that has much to lose but can't see beyond his fly. And all for what??? A few minutes of guilty pleasure? And besides all the fans and money he stands to lose, couldn't he think of his children? Sigh.

Well, I would say this time his wife shot a hole in one -- right in his head! And, if all is true, he deserves it! :ohdear:

arabianhorse59 11-29-2009 12:38 PM

Ok, from what I'm reading in the police report released this AM, Tiger and his wife were having a very loud argument about his fling with this Rachel woman in Australia. Tiger in a heated rage backed out of the driveway going about 40 MPH (long driveway!!) and hit the hydrant. Then he spun his wheels and crashed into the tree. Now, where it gets fuzzy is the wife busting out the windows with his Nike driver, which he didn't pay for so who cares? HE claims she was chasing him with it down the driveway and that's why he left so fast. SHE claims she was trying to bust out the windows to get him out of the Escalade. Hmmmm.

Moral? Keep those pants zipped up, guys! It always comes back to haunt you!

Irish Rover 11-29-2009 01:05 PM

Hey Chelsea - here's another spin - it's just like the Garden of Eden where the woman enticed the poor guy into a bite of apple. It's just history repeating itself but in Australia. I could be wrong but it's a thought and it's from a man's perspective. :icon_wink:

arabianhorse59 11-29-2009 03:13 PM

OHHHHH..his WIFE hit him with the golf club and split his lip open like a melon! WOW! Hell hath no fury...:boxing2: I wonder if she'll get arrested??

Yoda 11-29-2009 04:47 PM

Why doesn't the press and the fans just mind thier own business.

We should give Tiger Woods a HIP HIP DUMBASS! and move on. Let he and his wife work it out.

Just another opinion.

Yoda

redwitch 11-29-2009 05:25 PM

Yoda, I'm with you. According to credible sources, the "other woman" has adamantly denied that there was any sort of affair, tryst or much of anything else.

Tiger is one athelete who truly has been a class act from the day he turned pro. If he did make a mistake, it should be NONE OF OUR BUSINESS.

We can be crass and rude, make bad jokes and speculate and gossip all we want or we can take the high road and leave this as a private matter. Personally, I always liked hills, so I'll stick with the high road.

Irish Rover 11-29-2009 06:44 PM

I agree with the fact that he appears to be a gentleman and has since his first tournament, BUT did you know that he's the highest fined player on tour because of his language and outbursts? Doesn't necessarily make him a bad person but maybe we should all just wait and see what comes of this.

graciegirl 11-29-2009 07:15 PM

Naturally his life is open for speculation.

When a person chooses a career that makes him a "performer on the world stage" it goes with the territory that people will be interested in all aspects of his life. If you read my first post on this thread I say how worried and sad we felt when it was announced he was "seriously injured".

I guess it is in an effort to make light of what appears to be disappointing behavior on the part of a really nice young man some of us are making jokes, kind of "gallows humor" I guess.

His dad would have kicked his butt if any of these rumors are true.

My other golf idol, Jack Nicklaus, originally from Columbus, OHIO (A great place) has NEVER let me down.

I hope all this trash talk is false, and if it is not, I hope he learns he almost lost something very, very important.

I suspect that our beloved Tiger has gotten something that he, unfortunately, provoked; but thankfully for all concerned it was nothing as drastic as the consequences the guys in the 'Chicago' song suffered.

The fury of a woman scorned, revealed; and not, of course, to condone violence, but I am not sure that any of us can be certain that we would react differently in a similar situation; I think that people too often fail to realize that serious danger is a very real and inherent risk of unfaithfulness.

I do feel sorry for both he and his beautiful wife, who seems like such a nice lady, not just for something painful occurring in their relationship, but also for the publicity; but with him being such a public figure for his success, some degree of attention when bad news occurs is also inescapable.

But the same sources that say he is the highest fined player also concede that he is the most watched player, and with the attention he gets even a burp gets on the camera. Now if you're number 243 on the money list you can say #%&&*@@## all day, break every club in your bag, and no one would notice.

collie1228 11-29-2009 10:11 PM

I just read Tiger's statement, and the report in the New York Times that he is refusing to talk to the police, on advice of counsel. It is a "private matter" they say. I say that he must at least be charged with reckless driving. Even with no alcohol involved, he must have driven recklessly in order to hit a hydrant and a tree on exiting his driveway. Maybe if he's charged he'll change his mind about his right to silence.

BogeyBoy - you are probably correct in stating that nobody notices when #243 swears or throws clubs (they are rarely shown on TV), but when you are a role model you are held to higher standard. Tiger went over $1,000,000 if fines in a recent year and a lot of his tirades were caught on TV. People look up to this fellow and expect him to take the high road. I don't know anyone in my circle of friends who could put off the Highway Patrol for three days and get away with it. I really don't care what motivated or caused this situation, but there should be some accountability to go along with fame and fan adoration. He used public services to get to the hospital. Sorry, I wasn't meaning to keep this going and I won't comment again on the subject. Have a great day.:)
