Ground shaking in Village of Fenney
A little earlier today we had a big rumble and ground shaking in the Village of Fenney. The whole thing only lasted 5 seconds or so. Does anyone know the cause?

Could be the earth movers. When we bought our first home it was the only street completed. When the big movers came in it rattled the windows

Yes, mine shook too !!
Yes, my house in Fenney shook too. Scared me because I was waiting for the floor to disappear....
Have no idea what it was but hope it doesn't again.. |
Don't know if it was effect of train problem. Freight train had stopped and blocked multiple crossings including the one at CR 466. Some one mentioned that there was a de-railment. This occurred around noon time.

THUNDER. A ROAR OF THUNDER. We haven't heard it for awhile.
|
It could have been a lightning strike down in Fenney. If it’s direct and close it can literally shake your house.
|
Earthquake.
Don't look at me though... ...it wasn't my fault. :D |
The last time it happened I was told it was the stone company down on 470 blowing up rocks, this was the third time since we moved here that it has happened. The first time I thought it was a truck wreck, the second I thought sink hole, but then found out it happens every couple months down here.

Ground shaking in Fenney
Newly built house next door in Fenney just about to be powerwashed at approximately 2 pm today when our whole house shook for a few seconds rattling the dishes in our cabinets. We said wow that is some powerwasher!!!!! Then realized it was more than that. Went outside and checked the house for damages. Anyone know the cause of this?

I use to be powder monkey at rock quarry about ever 4 or 5 days CoBOOM. If there is rock quarry close it was probably TNT and fertilizer. But, you should of heard it. then as the shock wave transmits out you would feel it if your within few miles.

Lightning can really shake the ground.
|
They were detonating explosives at the nearby quarry....there where several posts on Facebook about it.
|
Sinkhole, maybe.....

Hopefully this mine won't be transitioned into a regional dump when the mining operations are ceased. Dig a big hole and then fill it up with garbage. Lots of money to be made on both ends! |

In my original home state of Wisconsin, more than 70% of the mined out quarries were/are used as dumps. Several have become Superfund clean up projects because of lack of proper lining, drainage, gas bleeding, and improper materials. |
I see that there was a news article about this on Saturday - link below. 101 year old company, blasting 5 times a month and just renewed permit for 10 more years. So, as a potential future Fenney resident, I am curious - are you just feeling the shaking or also hearing the booms? Sounds like it's just a surprise earth shaking for a few seconds maybe once a week?

I don't sell houses, have never been a realtor and I don't know the Morses, but I would like to. Their half brother lives in my village but he doesn't neighbor much. I am bat-**** crazy about this amazing place and it's wise and old-er people. |
We have visited and rented in TV many times over the past 5-6 years. My parents have been full time residents for at least that long. I don't know yet if Fenney is my cup of tea which is why I am trying to read and gather as much info as I can from actual residents. Obviously, this topic caught my eye, as well as another current, related topic in this forum that also mentions hearing a PA system from a prison. Reminds me of a time many years ago when I rented a home on a temporary basis here in my home town that was about 100 yards away from a Burger King drive thru. Personally, I don't think the ground shaking for a few minutes once a week is that big a deal, especially if you know the source and it doesn't do any damage to anything and it doesn't occur in the middle of the night.
We have interacted with several of TV sales agents over the years and have found most of them to be very straightforward and nice. However, I'm a former licensed broker but I have never actually worked in the business. I am aware that there are differences between licensed brokers/Realtors and the sales agents as far as the rules and regulations they are bound to. That's not necessarily good or bad but is certainly something that is helpful to be aware of. In my experience, it doesn't matter, really, when you are shopping for a new home or a new or used car. The one latin term I learned in my broker class many years ago was "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware). Always do your own due diligence. That means do your research and learn how to look up tax maps and records, etc. Research is all I am doing here. Reading, commenting, and asking questions. I am, by no means, trying to bash TV or any particular part of it. My wife and I loved it there from the first time we visited. We are in the process of packing up our belongings and plan to make TV our new home town. We will be renting for at least 2.5 months while searching for homes. |

Stop by and see us some time so you can look in our eyes and see we honestly mean it. Our friends back home all must think we get ten bucks for every person we persuade to live down here. We just are happy folks. sigh. |

We may be old-er but we can still
make the earth move.:ho: |
Many years ago we lived a short distance from a quarrying operation in Elmhurst, IL,
and frequently we would hear blasting and feel the house shake. What I would be concerned about down here, is if the blasting and earth shaking would be an added factor in sinkhole developement. Might be a good idea to do some research to see if any correlation! |

Sinkhole FAQ | Florida Department of Environmental Protection
5. Will watering our lawn lower the water table level and thus cause sinkholes to develop in our neighborhood? back to top. Probable triggering mechanisms for sinkhole collapse may include drought, new construction, blasting, heavy ground loading, heavy rainfall and heavy groundwater pumpage. |
Thank you

I'm not worried about blasting, sinkholes, prisons, criminals, termites, rats, snakes or alligators. At this point in my life I'm concerned only with staying healthy, the rest doesn't matter.
