WARNING! Cody's restaurant. USED food safety glove in my wife's salad.

Just wanted to warn everyone about Cody's at Lake Sumter. Apparently the salad's include USED "food safety" gloves at no extra charge. Maybe even some food borne illness bacteria, sweat and who knows what else you might find on the inside of a used glove. Extra flavor?

Picture of my wife's salad below. Thanks Cody's! **THIS WAS A TAKEOUT ORDER, not leftovers**

Proof of purchase and refund for any doubters...

You put it in a leftover box to take it home?

I have to stand up for Cody's in Bonnie's memory. She enjoyed many good times there and the people who worked there enjoyed her.

Three posts from the OP. Two on this subject and the third a year ago asking about another development.

ColdNoMore 03-29-2018 10:19 AM

I would be really ticked off.

I want nothing but new safety gloves...in my food.

:D

graciegirl 03-29-2018 10:28 AM

Bonnie. I am trying to say what you would have said.

IT WAS TAKEOUT... I brought this home to my wife who is ill and immunocompromised, which makes the whole situation even worse!

Choose to deny the truth if you'd like but I just added the reciept for the refund I was given. Sorry I haven't made many posts, there is not often something to be outraged about around here.

Don't worry about it.

Your opinions/observations count the exact same as the rest of us...regardless of the number of your posts.

Good luck with your wife. :ho:

graciegirl 03-29-2018 10:41 AM

I apologize for thinking you were a troll.

Bjeanj 03-29-2018 10:44 AM

I hope you take this up with the manager, also. Have been there quite often and know from my experience that if there is a problem, it is handled immediately. Make sure the manager knows about your wife’s health, so the ramifications can be communicated to his/her workers.

manaboutown 03-29-2018 11:17 AM

Gag! That is totally disgusting!

Retiring 03-29-2018 11:29 AM

People make mistakes. Hopefully the manager will know who was making salads and take note of the offense. If the employee has a history, maybe that will be his last salad. If he/she doesn’t have a history, now he does. When I was 14 yrs old I worked in my uncles very high-end NYC deli that served food. You NEVER want to look behind the scenes or you’ll never eat out again. I’m just glad you caught it immediately. Not the end of the world, just get a refund.

manaboutown 03-29-2018 11:32 AM

While back in college one of my fraternity brothers who worked in a Village Inn told me he used to spit in the scrambled eggs. Since then I have never, ever ordered or eaten scrambled eggs at a restaurant. That image has been ever present to me...

Yep.

Which is the reason why on those rare occasions when I get a meal unfit to eat...I don't allow the manager/server to 'replace it.'

Whether an agreeable adjustment on the bill can or can't be agreed upon...no way am I taking the chance on the same cook sending out something else. barf

Especially since I have, in essence...criticized his/her first attempt.

My son, who has worked in restaurant kitchens, has told me stories of "the kitchen's revenge" so I follow your practice.

I recently called the head corporate office and the Health Department because Cody's at Sumter Landing had mold under their table cloths which I discovered when someone accidentally spilled water and i turned part of the table cloth over. I looked at some others and they were the same. The moldy part sits on you as you are sitting at the table. They head office VP was there the next day changing out all the tablecloths. I did get the Manager when I discovered it and he was very blase about it. I know of other people who have seen other things, it needs to be better managed for cleanliness and all things that move.

I have had Business dealings with the owner and have seen the back of everyone of his kitchens in person.
To say the least this doesn't surprise me and the man is arrogant and could care less and goes through manger like i go through socks.
Good luck and contact the Health board and don't expect to get any satisfaction from the owner!!!

I agree. This happens once in a while.
No warning is necessary. Most people just move on, without making a big deal.

vintageogauge 03-29-2018 12:42 PM

I have lots of horror stories about restaurant happenings that I have witnessed. I won't bore everyone with the stories as most have been told over and over but eating in any restaurant and expecting not to get something that was contaminated in one way or another is at best a dream. They all do it, sometimes accidental other times on purpose for one reason or another. Just try not to think about it and have an extra drink. Next topic, restaurant restrooms without soap, oh my, oh my, oh my.

DeanFL 03-29-2018 12:46 PM

Perhaps the Cody's salad-maker is an ex surgeon from a local hospital.

He (or she...) is so accustomed to removing the gloves after an operation is finished.

And, finishing the thought - that's the reason he/she is an "ex". Left one glove in their last patient... just a habit.

Many of us like to think of this forum as a tool for communicating to each other about a multitude of subjects - not just a means of airing complaints.

I see the majority of those gloves are one size fits all and usually on the large size. Probably slipped off. Not excuse for negligence! I ready don't feel good about meal made behind closed doors, you just don't know the work attitude and managers relationship with workers. Plus not hiring rocket scientist. I like the sub shops where they make the sub in front of you, at least you see what their doing, but has no bearing on quality or freshness. So it's gamble if you're not making it yourself.

Curious why you waited 3 weeks to make this post?

Fair question, but first let me answer another. I did take it up with the manager and I got a refund, but the guy was at best rude. He couldn't care less and it was clear he couldn't get me out of there fast enough.

Why 3 weeks? Because it is still eating at me. I've read a bunch of other bad reviews. I walk by this place almost daily and I am reminded of my wife vomiting all over our living room after she realized what she was eating. I see so many people going into the restaurant and I think to myself, "my god, if they only knew."

manaboutown 03-29-2018 02:45 PM

It seems the manager understands he has a captive customer base with limited restaurant options within golf cart range inside the bubble and takes full advantage of this fact. I experienced this situation in a relatively small, rather remote community in which I lived for nine years. At the best steak house I once got my martini only after my steak was served. I knew the owners and didn't push it. Where else could I go for a good steak closer than 45 miles away?

thelegges 03-29-2018 03:07 PM

By looking at the picture, the fork with dressing on it and dressing on the salad looks like glove was under lettuce. The glove may have come out a bag of salad, possibly not from a restaurant employee. Since they usually dump it out from a bag employee may not have noticed the glove inside.

If an employee doesn’t notice they have lost a glove while preparing food, there’s a serious problem there.

I'm sorry. How could you possibly move on from something like that? The memory of it would gag me forever.

Or the one from the cc where a baby mouse was in the salad.

Maybe it was a mistake, but in my mind I could never go back.

I only got food poison once in my life, on a New Year's Day. Think it was a veggie dip thing from Costco on New Years Eve.. I only ate it to be polite, since it seemed like no one else had tried it yet! Been to India many times. And Indiana for that matter. Always been fine.

When I was a kid I ate yogurt followed by a tuna sandwich after a hot,hot day playing sports, and got sick, but I don't count that as it was a bad idea and I had to take responsibility. Never really ate yogurt again though. Just don't like the texture of it. Maybe it's better now.

But the gloves are off with this conversation.

another disgruntled underpaid employee? how much to bet it was his last day?

Good question. I only go for the bar food, peanuts, and ice cold beer.
