Precious Cargo

On the un-named online news source, there is a rather clear picture of a golf cart that is obviously own by grandparents being lent to children , but what really irks me is the picture of a toddler being held by the arms of a sub-teen

Week of spring break always brings out strange and unsafe use of carts. I remember when one year redwitch noticed two kids strapped in to place where the clubs go. We alway go out of town during this week, so I Read the craziness from others. Hoping everyone stays safe this week

How about a so called street legal cart, on the roadway, in a circle on Buena Vista with a 6-10 year old in the back seat, no seat belt holding on while Grampa goes bombing around the circle...with Grandma and another youngster up front.

The kid could be missing and nobody in the front seat would know it until too late.

Totally and completely inexcusable irresponsibility.

Golf carts in TV highlight the complete lack of judgement prevalent in a major portions of the population. These are the behaviors that make federal and state regulations necessary. Granpa - it is ok if you kill yourself, but criminal if you subject minors under your care to life threatening danger. There, I said it and I am glad!!!!

ToTV should have a Sticky Thread "Can't Fix Stupid".

We post photos of dumb things people do (as in this topic...) as time goes on here in TV land...

I hope you all are just as passionate about the stupidity of seniors driving their golf carts using cell phones.

photo1902 03-31-2018 07:45 AM

Or, people could mind their own business.

Had a lady coming at me driving a golf cart on the Morse bridge, cell phone in one hand cigarette in the other. This got my attention. Where are the pictures of these stunt drivers being published ?

Did she stay in her lane?

My point exactly. The world didn't come to a grinding halt.

Seriously? We live in The Villages. In addition to all the wonderful things about the villages that I love, one of the things I noticed when I moved here were the number of people who, I observed criticizing and judging others. It's like an olympic sport and you can't change stupid is their mantra.

Just an observation!

If "you can't change stupid" is their mantra, then "Let's bitch and complain about everything" is their Vow.

Sadly in November 2016 we did see a 3 year only fall out of a cart, did the world come to a halt? Not for us, but it did for the grandparents that it happened to. Does it stay in my memory, yes, but I see worse on a day to day basis at work. When you do cpr on a child, the only thing going thru your mind besides counting, is please don’t die. You come to a grinding halt, the world not so much.

EdFNJ 03-31-2018 09:44 AM

It used to be kids took away the keys from their older parents who they felt couldn't drive a CAR safely. Now they still do that but give them a golf cart instead.

My 91 year old father was driving until 3 days before he passed away. He said "I've never had an accident or got a ticket in 75 years of driving." My answer to him was always "Have you ever looked in the rear-view mirror and saw the carnage you left BEHIND you?" He thought his reflexes were as good as they were when he was 17. Couldn't convince him otherwise.

Be careful. High season is drawing to a close. The roads won't be so clogged and the lines won't be as long soon, and the risky behaviors will drop...some.

Take good care of yourselves and your families. I want to know that you are all here and safe in a couple of weeks.

New Englander 03-31-2018 10:05 AM

Yesterday on my street a golf cart comes by with three kids in the seat with what looked like a 12 year old driving. No adults in sight. If something bad happens my guess is one of these television lawyers will be called.

Still amazed that 14 is the minimum age to drive a golf cart around here.

I just saw a Grandmother driving with 2 kids on the front seat with her and a boy sitting on the floor. The sides were down which are just flimsy fabric with snaps.

Grandparents should have better sense.
If you know 3 grands are coming why not rent a golf cart for 4 with seatbelts?

I don’t understand the “ why don’t you mind your own business?”
When we see total carelessness it is concerning!

Another observation: people doing what the op posted need to be criticized and judged.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. But why do some feel that they are the ones designated to do it?

"people doing what the op posted need to be criticized and judged"

Criticizing and judging people go beyond opinion. It is targeting.

Exactly.

The beauty of this (and most) sites is the fact that if a person doesn't like a particular subject/post...we're not forced to comment.

Being stupid deserves to be critcized, judged and targeted and call it what you want but that is my opinion. if You get into an accident with one of these privileged youngsters driving a cart maybe you will change your mind

Accidents by 14 year olds driving carts—ZERO

Accidents by Adults—-PLENTY.

WE have 120,000 people here and 99.8% mind their own business.

dnobles 03-31-2018 08:36 PM

We just saw a young child driving on Pinelles by Winndixie. She ran up on the sidewalk.

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself...as that hasn't been my experience. :ho:

villagerjack 03-31-2018 08:47 PM

On my way to Brownwood an aggressive adult cart driver wanted to desperately pass me on a curve around Turtle Mound and he almost had a head on when he realized he could not pass me in time. Shouted an obscenity at me when he had to pull back into his proper lane.

Perhaps it is because I have been blessed with hearing loss and reject hearing devices. It keeps me out of trouble, for sure.

Oh Yeah. Been there, done that on many cart paths and on side streets. Always a jerk who can't manage his time and every one is at fault for him being late

Sorry, but your statistic regarding accidents by 14 year olds driving carts is wrong! :ohdear:
