relocating from Ohio
I have what I thought was a cute story from a greeter (from Columbus, OH) we met at the new residents' breakfast. She was single (either divorced or widowed, don't know, doesn't matter), mother of 2, grandmother of 4, retired from her 2nd career in Columbus. Spent her time mostly ferrying school-age grandchildren to/from soccer, etc. and babysitting while their parents went on various vacations.
visited friend or relative in the Villages for like 1 week (ok, maybe 2), no intention of doing anything but taking a vacation - bought a house, flew back home, stopped at Kinko's on her way and bought a FSBO sign, stuck it in her yard, got her house in contract in like 2 days (this was 4 years ago, remember), and when her kids called to ask about her vacation, said it was great, and she was moving in 6 weeks! Kids were shocked, but dealt with it (no other choice) and 6 mos or so later she was living in the Villages and working part-time for the rec dept, having a blast. Said her kids now went on family vacations together, with all the kids, have reconnected, come to visit, as do the grandkids, and everyone is happier, including her. Said she's in a wonderful, friendly neighborhood, included in all kinds of things, and extremely happy. Just another fairly typical story of how someone ended up in TV. Just thought I'd throw this in to say don't be afraid to try. you will most likely love it, and if you don't, what's the worst thing that could happen? You could move back. But, if you're like the vast majority, you won't - you'll wish you'd done it sooner. |
We do not own in TV at this point. We just want to be snowbirds and so we would not be selling the Ohio house. But I do have a pretty good feel for TV.
And I think there might even be two Ohio clubs in TV because there are so many Buckeyes I guess. It used to be said that the Ohio people tended to migrate to the gulf coast, along with others from the Midwest. But now I think there are lots of Buckeyes in TV. All those Buckeyes can wave to all those Michiganders headed in the same direction, down I-75. Good luck on your journey. Boomer |

Born in Akron, went to school in Greensburg and the pool/lake in Uniontown for many years. Now in S. Florida and hope to be in TV in the next 2-3 years. Never went to any high school reunions, wonder how many I will meet up with in TV? :)

We are from Madison Ohio and maintain our house there. My daughter spent 8 years at Akron University. Welcome to the Villages. We are snowbirds and are new to the Villages. We have not met too many people yet.

Hi Condo Lady,
 I'm not from Ohio, but Buckeyes Gracie, Boomer, F16, Hawkeye, Mintjulep, Ohiogirl (love that story!) et. al. are some of the nicest TOTV'ers I haven't met yet (but sure hope to real soon). One thing I've learned from TOTV: Buckeyes are beautiful! The more the merrier. Welcome to TV! |
Moved from Solon/Beachwood area 18 years ago to S. Florida. Visited the Villages one weekend and immediatly put our Boca Raton condo up for sale.
This place is great. Plenty of Ohio people and a very nice Ohio club meets every month. You wont regret it. Jerry |

and we're from Marblehead, but raised our family in North Olmsted. Snowbirds, but feel we have the best of both worlds - winter in The Villages, and summer on Sandusky Bay.

Lived in South East Cleveland for 49 years. You will love The Villages. Airtran out of CAK is the greatest. Prices are right. Only a 2 hour flight. Jerry |

My husband and I are on the west side of Cleveland. Looking forward to being in our new home in Buttonwood this winter. My mother is putting her home on the market to move to a CYV.
You'll love it; we can't wait to be there! :2excited: |
I grew up in Medina, OH (right next to Akron) & attended OSU. However, we aren't building for another year (just closed on a lot in St. James). Will look forward to joining any Buckeye Clubs!

finally on our way
arriving in TV on Friday to become snowbirds (finally), can't wait. Especially since the weather turned cold this week in Columbus.
Going to a Browns' Backers club (Tony Packo's) Sunday to watch the game, most likely by golf cart. Will attend the occasional Buckeyes' game also at Tony Packo's (if it's a day game - think they meet at McCall's Tavern for night games), will also likely attend an Ohio Club meeting and maybe a 3C (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati) meeting. Ohio is probably in the top 5 states represented in TV (I think the top is NY or FL, and I think Pennsylvania is well-represented too). Lots of Ohioans to meet up with, and also lots from other states and countries, too. One of the neatest things (IMO, anyway) about TV is the opportunity to meet and get to know those from other places and cultures. Different cultures are not just from different countries - there's urban or suburban, small town and rural, midwest, east coast, southern, etc. All have things to enrich your life and open your mind. Best place to find out about stuff is at the pool, floating around on your noodle (get some soon) and then probably on this site too. You will love it! |
Our neighbors moved here from Akron a few months ago. Bought a villa and love everything about The Villages.....being avid golfers and snow haters, they found the
perfect place. |
Brunswick Ohio here also

more from Ohio
We closed on our preowned in Lynhaven last Monday and returned to Circleville, Ohio, and a FROST warning this morning. We will snowbird until we are ready to sell here.
While in the Villages, I was clipping back the knock-out roses in the front bed of the lawn and four different neighbors came over to meet me and welcome us to the neighborhood. I was sold before that, but it just added to my feeling of being in "Florida's friendliest hometown". You'll love it! |
Massillon, Ohio
My wife and I are both from Ohio. I'm from Columbus and my wife is from Van Wert. Currently we are maintaining two homes (Massillon, Oh & Village of Duval). We are looking forward to retirement and living the villages life style.

Does it count that I lived in Cleveland for a year from 80 to 81?
I found the people from the midwest to be friendly. If you were waiting for an elevator and said good morning to someone, they answer you back politely. I remember on Friday at 5 PM, someone telling me their was a party in the park. Since I didn't know where it was, I asked for directons and was told, "just stand on the corner at 5 PM, and follow the crowd". Ten minutes later, I was at the park partying. TV reminds of those times when people were polite to one another. You will meet so many great people from many parts of the country including other parts of the world. |

VERY new to this forum
We've just moved to Florida full-time from northeast Ohio (Wooster) and are looking to see where we want to settle. We originally wanted south Florida for the tropical climate, but we have recently spoken with someone who intends to move to TV in the next few months and absolutely love it.
The amount of activities interests me, but my wife thinks it's too far north and will be too cold in the winter months. She's reluctant to consider it because of that. I'd like to hear from people who have dealt with this and hear how it was resolved. |
Leeddog, once you are here most of the year or year-round, the cooler winter months in Dec. thru Feb. are a treat after the hottest months of July, August, September. The sun shines almost every day and that makes up for any "cold" days when it is 60 degrees out in the winter. You can go to accuweather.com and other weather sites to look up the historical high and low temperatures for various cities in FL or other states. At this link, you can choose the month and year (past) to see actual temps in previous years. In January, 2011, many days had high temps of high 70's and sometimes 80 degrees:
http://www.accuweather.com/us/fl/orl...mnyr=1-01-2011 We've met people many times who retired in more southern and coastal areas of FL have moved here because of the endless amenities, little crime, decent cost of living, and hundreds more clubs/activities than one person can schedule into their day/week/month. |

We are also from the Akron area (Fairlawn). We just built a home in Tamarind Grove . Is this close to you? Glad to hear of people from our area moving down here. Hope to meet up with you in the future.
