Fenney Here we Come - Where do we Go
 

And after 4 months of looking at houses online, reading/starting threads here and our preview last week, we bought in Fenney. (Thanks for all the info.)

The preview visit was a blur. I remember finding gas down by Fenney and our realtor showed us where new grocery shopping was going in. Don't remember where this was. Will it be by the Turnpike and 468?

For grocery shopping now, looks like it is a tossup either going to the Publix by Brownwood or the Publix at Lake Deaton.

Does that make sense?

The Fenney utility sheet showed Comcast and Century Link for cable/internet. Might try going with just internet and stream with Sling or Directv now.

Congratulations it really is great living here.

The place is really booming now. Tried to drive past the lot we just purchased yesterday and there were so many construction trucks that we had to park two blocks away and walk to our beautiful lot. It was great to see the water level in the pond is much higher since the recent rains. The developer has done a great job of preserving the giant Oak trees to provide a natural setting. From an investment standpoint, obviously the early purchasers will benefit the most. Shopping will be a little inconvenient for a short time but still won't take me as long as going to the grocery store when we lived in crowded Illinois. If you wait until all the conveniences are installed, the prices will be up significantly, so welcome and enjoy! The Villages knows how to develop attractive neighborhoods and this is the latest and greatest. My wife is especially happy to have natural gas for cooking and has always despised the electric stoves forced on most of the other villages here. It is also much faster to get on the Interstate and to the Orlando airport from Fenney. It will be the third "Village" we have lived in and each move has been rewarding. The tunnels and bridge will be completed sooner than the negative posters think.

Wonder how long it will be before retail stores such as Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, Joann's, Home Depot and the rest of those along the 441/27 corridor will be available to those living so far south. Better question is.....will those retail stores ever be put in place that far south?

No. 44 will never become a 27/441.

Where to go? Get in your car and drive to 44 or wildwood for ANYTHING for couple of years

We bring our happiness or unhappiness with us wherever we go.

We lived in a sought after suburb of Cincinnati, but still had to drive ten or fifteen miles for some things.

Years ago when my kids were small I worked in a supermarket part time the head cashier said that you would never see supermarkets accepting plastic as payment.

I really wonder with the traffic up north here getting increasingly frustrating whether it would bother me to have to drive a little ways to get to things. I really don't mind driving, I just hate the traffic.

Enjoy the serenity Fenneyites - you just may end up with the best of both worlds.

Why, do you really shop that often? Up north we live in the burbs, yet I drive 40 minutes to shop at brick and mortar and eat at a restaurant that’s not fast food.
My shopping is mostly done online, today I spend 15 minutes online and got everything I need for the week, even a piece of furniture, and a new washer and dryer.

Take a breath, all will fall into place. Try not to read the negative about you moving to Fenney. When we bought our first house here, in Pennacamp I heard the same negative comments. Why were we so stupid to by at the end of TV, and we would never get our money out of it. We did sell, and in 3 days so no worries.

If I have to go to grocery I like Lake Deaton.

301 will

Henry Flagler was told Miami would never be more than a southern outpost with few people living there...........

They have already broken ground for our first shopping plaza, gas is 2 miles from the gate in Coleman or 2-1/2 up 301, or 5 miles to Publix and Kristine way fuel, carwash, banks, etc. 10 minutes to Brownwood, 15 minutes to the Leesburg hospital, 5 miles to Rohan recreation center. We have Spectrum down here for TV, phone, and internet, cell service is spotty but they are in the process of building a new tower on 301 about 1-1/2 miles as the crow flies. 2 golf courses open and 3 more 9's under construction so far. I would also think that they will be building more big box stores on 466A near the new Lowes which is a heck of a lot nearer than 441/27. It all takes time but they are building quickly not only the homes but the amenities, golf courses, and commercial areas. Welcome, we have a large social group here that you can join if you have closed on your home, just search Fenney Friends for the site, lots of information there, you're gonna like it down here.

I can see Highway 301 really coming to life with many new stores in the future. I also think they eventually will add another entrance on the Florida Turnpike. These things time but in The Villages they usually do happen. GPS will take time for those who buy south of the turnpike.

Time and distance is relative to what you are used to. We live in a very rural area. The nearest mall is an hour away at highway speed and no traffic. If we can't get it at Walmart or want something more than a pizza or burger in a sack, we have to make a road trip. Having virtually everything you need to get to be 20 minutes or less away will be like heaven for us. Being able to grocery grab on a golf cart will be even better. I'm literally taking a break from packing my moving truck at this moment. Monday, April 16th here we come, Villages look out. Will be renting for a few months while we house hunt. Fenney is beautiful and if all of the cart trails were done, it would be a no-brainer that we'd probably buy there, and may still yet. But we are going to look pre-owned in the 466A area first.

My Mom at 85 buys 40% on amazon. I don’t think our kids have shopped in brick in mortar for years.
My washer and dryer is being delivered tomorrow. I was sitting at the pool when I bought everything. Win win for me.

It's a 25 minute drive door to door to the Ocala Mall from our home in Fenney.

Congratulations! You'll love it here. Lake Deaton has a larger Publix than Traverse Plaza but you'll be shopping at your own store in a year or so. We will soon start getting more shopping down south so don't pay attention to the trolls that always put down our area (South, 466A and beyond) and the Brownwood area. Brownwood is going to explode in the next year once they relocate the Villages offices there. It will still take Fenney, etc a year or two to be connected with the mainland Villages. Enjoy the ride!

I'm not negative. Why would Brownwood explode? Would it be office workers getting lunch? I'm hoping it gets bigger and better.

The Lofts at Brownwood - apartment style living - will contribute to a better retail environment. Also add the Atwood Bungalows and the Brownwood Hotel & Spa. And don't forget a golf cart bridge over Rt 44 at Brownwood which will enhance golf cart travel to/from Brownwood.

Is it a loft above and a store below?

Nope. According to an insert in The Villages Magazine: "This neighborhood is another first for The Villages offering apartment-style living. Residents of The Lofts will enjoy a resort-style pool, and clubhouse with game room, fitness center, and spaces for gathering with friends."

I’m assuming all of the growth factors will kick in. The population down south is increasing, the new apartments, the corporate offices relocating to Brownwood, Bluefin opening, Babette’s moving in, the new villas going up, the new hotel, the new specialty clinic, W. pucks going in..........
