Johnny Rocket's

We had lunch at Johnny Rocket's yesterday and my wife ordered a vanilla shake. They brought it out as usual with the extra in the metal cup. When she went to pour some more out of the metal cup, she saw peanut butter in the cup, Not just a little on the rim, but all over the sides. It did look gross. She called the server over and he simply said, "I'll get you another". My wife told him, "What if I had a peanut allergy". He didn't answer. Later, the manager came by to ask how our lunch was and my wife told him about her shake. He said, "Did they get you another"? No explanation from anyone as to why there was peanut butter in a vanilla shake.

They should have taken it a LOT more seriously...given that it could have been life-threatening for some people.

We, just this week made our first visit to Rockets. We had an early morning appointment at St. Lukes and was looking for breakfast. We loved it and will certainly go back again, the place was packed with large groups of men laughing and enjoy themselves. It reminded us, once again, why we chose to spend our golden years in TV.

As to the peanut butter in a Vanilla shake - kinda obvious, someone had made a peanut butter something or other in the metal cup and had not washed it out. I have a grandson with a peanut allergy and he always tells the server when he is ordering.

The not washing between shakes is a symptom of a bigger problem in how they do business behind the counter!

Issues only the owner or general manager can address....not the shift or day manager.

Agree ......... and they should, and probably do, have more than one mixing cup and one should be kept for peanut use and other allergen use. Lack of knowledge on the part of the person making the shake?, who knows. The Manager should be all over this.

pretty serious shortcoming !!!

all I could say , if a person who was allergic to peanuts, drank from that cup and survived--there would be a new owner of Johnny Rockets--Slam Dunk- Dan Newlin would have parachuted in on that one

Yeah. Eww. I would probably just take a swig from the metal cup instead of pouring it. Gross.

Had lunch just today at Johnny Rockets..fairly crowded..good lunch!

Bogie Shooter 05-03-2018 01:38 PM

Would someone with a serious peanut allergy even be in an establishment where peanuts are available?
I know my grandson only can go to certain restaurants.

They did not do a good job of cleaning the device after the previous job. Hope that helps.

Just because a place is crowded, doesn't mean its good--sometimes its just convenient --just like a rest area off an Interstate--they're crowded at times

I am not sure of my facts, but I believe there are various levels of severity of allergies. My grandson does not smell peanuts when they are in the house, his sister eats peanut butter like it is going out of style and it is always in the house, but if there are nuts in a food he is instantly aware. He does not swell up, his peanut allergy causes severe vomiting.

Yep.

One of my kids is in the same boat.

Do they still make the servers wear the paper hats? That has to get hot. There was an Undercover Boss episode with Johnny Rockets a few years back.... It was one of the episodes where....I did not get a great feeling about the future viability of the company. To put it mildly.

Let me clarify...had a hamburger and shake..they bought out the extra shake in a Glass..everything appeared clean. Yes the place was fairly crowded and for my "two" cents" I had a good lunch. I fully understand the OP concerns but my experience was different and sorry I could not "pile on" to meet your expectations. Suggest you lighten up!

I eat there a minimum of once a week and have never had a problem of any sort. Sorry your experience was bad. I'd give it another shot.

If I go there and order a shake I'll be certain to inspect the metal container, as I have a peanut allergy. Fortunately, it is not life-threatening, at least so far, but still causes swelling, shortness of breath, and retching.

In Ohio the other weekend, we were seated at a Bob Evans restaurant to order a meal with my son and his family. My son noticed a change on the menu that offered peanut butter on pancakes. As my one grandson is highly allergic to peanut butter, my son felt that the risks of cross contamination were too great so we left to eat at another place. I feel sorry for all those that suffer from an allergy that can turn deadly if precautions are not taken. Jonnie Rockets is off the list of safe places when my grandsons visit.

This is a big worry. I hope someone notified the owner of that Johnny Rocket's about this thread? Johnny Rockets | Contact Us

I would think they should have a notice posted stating that this establishment serves peanut products. Almost anything one buys these days has a notice about products being made in a factory processing nuts.
