Dogs not allowed in squares
Just heard on the Villages radio station, (at about 11:40) as they were interviewing a Villages rep. I wonder why they don't include this in their pre-entertainment announcement.

You are sure that is what you heard? |
Maybe they were talking about the dancing area as the merchants would lose a lot of customers if dogs were banned from the squares and I don't think that will ever happen.

OMG. Am I glad I checked your "about me".

Although I am not sure if she said "at" or "on" the square. Just reporting, no personal opinion. Not joke! |
Pretty sure no dancing dogs on the dance floor. Never saw a dog out there that I can recall.
|
I've seen them out there slow dancing with there mommies.

Actually, I heard/read that before, when we first moved to TV in 2011. But it was something like they could be on the sidewalks around the squares but not in the squares themselves. Obviously that has not been enforced.
My dog has two left feet, so he doesn't dance... |

I wasn't paying hard attention but heard something this morning as well. Can't tell you who the rep was for sure but right after, Larry said something about whomever it was going to visit rec centers. Maybe the new guy whose a "man about town" and does interviewing. BUT...I wouldn't swear to that's who said it!!!

Why would merchants lose money? How much do the dogs spend?

I agree with the no pet rule within the area of no smoking. Exception being ... legitimate service dogs. I have tripped over leashes of owners of dogs not paying attention to what they are doing. I have witnessed others falling to the cement over leashes.
|
If they ban dogs then they need to ban children and teens. 9 out of 10 times, the dog is more welcomed more in the town squares.
|
dog owners always think they are in the right
|
Dogs should be allowed..
Providing they have a service human on a leash :jester: |

But surely unsupervised babies and falling over leashes is a rarity. |
The first (and last) time we took our dog into a crowd of people someone nearly put his eye out with a lit cigarette. I learned my lesson. Not going to have some careless fool injure our innocent pet. He's not done crowds since.

Know the Problems
I was at the Sumter Square a few nights ago. One lady was dancing with her dog on the dance floor, I turned a corner on the sidewalk and there were about 3 couples standing there with their dogs and one large dog jumped up on me. The dog was on a leash but it was obviously too long! Not surprised at our loss of controls. We actually have little resident police controls as the Sheriff is obviously under staffed and not able to keep up with the fast growth. There is a little traffic controls, (e.g. speeding) but that is about it. The Developer could care less about resident controls as he is about selling real estate and the last thing he wants to spend money on scaring away future buyers. These are both rescipe's for failure. Given these, why is anyone surprised that we have problems. :ohdear:

Not Sure
Really not sure what all of that means and how it adds to the substance of the question or the interest. :ohdear:
|
I would not ever even consider taking my dog down to the square. Too many crazy old people there.

However, I don't think it would be much safer...taking them to 'The Circles.' :D |
