Changes to the Lighthouse Lunch Specials

We went to the Lighthouse for lunch today. We were disappointed to see they eliminated the Burger special on their lunch menu. They had an all new menu. They said they took it off because no one was ordering it. Everyone I knew loved it!! They changed their french fries too. We liked the coated ones and they replaced them with lower fat fries.

Didn't they also drop the draft beer and only serve bottle beer now?

tophcfa 05-10-2018 08:37 AM

Also no more lobster claw appetizer : (

Chatbrat 05-10-2018 08:49 AM

Signs of things to come--new owners in the near future

karostay 05-10-2018 08:52 AM

Sad....The downhill slide has begun...It's all about maximum $$$$$$$$
Not customer satisfaction or dinning options...Perhaps the owners Johnny Rockets, Havana ,Red Sauce will end up with the Light House..They got it right

dewilson58 05-10-2018 10:23 AM

I still enjoy their grub and the location.

Lottoguy 05-10-2018 10:43 AM

I don't care for fish. So when we go there I always order the burger. If it's all seafood now, I won't be going.

JSR22 05-10-2018 10:47 AM

They have hamburgers.

gongoozler 05-10-2018 11:33 AM

Yep, never going back now!

missypie 05-10-2018 12:34 PM

Yes, new menu, prices up, dinner salad half the size.

mac9 05-10-2018 01:20 PM

That delicious shrimp and grits is now only available on Tuesdays!

bilcon 05-10-2018 04:03 PM

No more peel and eat shrimp on Mondays, no more draft beer. They sure know how to ruin a good thing,

Oh, Damn! No peel and eat shrimp or draft beer? Definitely ruined!

ColdNoMore 05-10-2018 06:16 PM

They'll probably still survive, given that they still have...a killer location.

I didn't hang out there but years ago they had many different genres of music. Does anyone remember if that's true?

cbg150 05-10-2018 10:04 PM

I had a wonderful dinner there a few days ago. It was great to try new things! Bravo on the new menu. We look forward to returning soon!

dillywho 05-11-2018 12:25 AM

Why?

For the life of me, I cannot fathom why they would go to bottled beer and eliminate draft. Draft is where the profit is.

jim1941 05-11-2018 05:01 AM

New on the menu......Bucket of Chum for $9 and Chum Salad for $6. What is chum?

Rollie 05-11-2018 05:14 AM

It was alway loud there, but if the food isn’t as good we won’t visit again. Too many other choices.

Rollie

Went there the other day. 5 of us for lunch, liked the new menu everyday will be different. As for the draft beer yea it's gone but the Bucket price is damn good and you can split them up with a friend who might drink a different brand. They have a storage issue and the draft was taking up to much room period. Ask to speak with the owners they'll tell you what's going on and why. Our waitress explained the new menu and why it's being done. I will agree Chum was not a good choice of wording on a menu and we all told our waitress that.

I have always liked The Lighthouse. We were rooting for the present owner as she was saving up to purchase the business from the Morses. I don't know why she would change a very successful menu. I am sorry to hear the catfish is gone. It was Helene's favorite thing when we went there.

aninjamom 05-11-2018 06:24 AM

Aren't there enough places in the square that serve hamburgers? We go there to get something different, and usually find something we enjoy.

I know what chum is when you go fishing but what is it on their menu? Are they calling a bucket of beer bottles a bucket of chum?

Chatbrat 05-11-2018 08:10 AM

Burgers, burgers, every where--too many to choose from, with out a score card

No it was explained that it's the cut off pieces from the filet. I believe they then fry or bake them. Just didn't sound appealing to me. Our meals were all good. As for the bucket 5 Heineken bottle beer for $12.00 is a good price. Before there are any comments I shared them with my Brother.

Chatbrat 05-11-2018 09:23 AM

we go out to dine, not to eat--since I can buy Osso Bucco from Sams, one more restaurant off our list--last 2 times we went to Chef's of Napoli--they didn't have Osso Bucco. no need to go out to eat pasta-no restaurant in the area, whose gravy comes close to mine & I'm not Italian

Chum is a horrible smelling rotten fish bait.

Well that's not what they're serving trust me just a poor choice of words. But it does get everyone to ask.

Ordered "Chum Bucket" the other day. No, didn't sound appetizing but ordered anyway.
It is an appetizer and comes with nothing else but was enough for me for a meal. Comes in two metal containers, all fried seafood. Mostly fish, a few (kind of flattened) scallops and some small shrimp. It was good and I would order again.

No draft beer is true I learned. Taps are still there but no handles. I let them know my displeasure. A bottle of Heinekin was either $4.25 or $4.50 I forget which, but because of that, I will be in no hurry to go back.
I cannot understand how all of a sudden the draft beer takes up too much room. They told me that too. Also other things going on but they would not elaborate. Something is going on and it's not for the better.

That's what chum is but that's a terrible name for baked fish. I guess if they sold Calamari they would call it Fried Bait.

When we were house hunting in 2011, Lighthouse had the most delightful (and totally unhealthy but who cares, not a daily thing for us) fried egg sandwich with cheese and bacon and tomatoes. OMG was it good.

Then it disappeared from the menu, so my next go-to was the shrimp & grits. I'm disappointed that will only be on the menu once a week, but there is still Harry's S&G in Ocala.

The only things I don't like about Lighthouse (I'm not a beer drinker, so the lack of tap doesn't bother me): the noise level and the fact that the chair arms are curved so you can't hang your purse off of them. (I could do a whole thread on places I have left my purse.)

I don't think I am making this up but didn't they frequently have music and is it true that it could be anything from opera to mariachi?

Not that I remember, but we are relative newbies.

I recall one magical evening when we were dining with friends outside at sunset. Bobby Blackmon was playing and singing jazz. However, that was several years ago and I do not recall musicians in recent years.

I feel like I rented for while and before I bought they were gone. The Lighthouse and the Church on the Square were 2 inexpensive places to see something different.
