Rudest bunch of residents at Sarasota Demo Day

Today I was embarrassed to say I live in The Villages. Attending one of many demo days I saw more of our own pushing to the front of the line with the standard, "I just have a question" While my friend, so does everyone else that was here ahead of you. It didn't seem to matter whether people booked appointments or not. Along came John with his clubs and an attitude that appeared to scream "I'm more important than you." You should be ashamed. And the people that were working for Sarasota just seemed to take it in stride, not wanting to upset a potential club buyer. Overheard someone say they must be here for a free lunch or something.

Miles42 05-11-2018 10:59 AM

welcome to the land of the self entitled.

Therein lies the problem. As long as these types of people are allowed to win with this behavior, they will continue.

If the stores won't do anything about it, perhaps it would help if the people in line spoke up forcefully, using that familiar Lower East Side NYC phrase, "MY next!"

Yep. Land of the entitled. I attended one at Palmer some time back, witnessing the same behavior. If they weren't cutting in lines they were hitting multiple buckets of balls. Never went back. :ohdear:

MrGolf 05-11-2018 12:39 PM

Good. For a minute there I thought it was me. Mrs Golf asked me what I did wrong to cause all of the commotion. I replied, I made an appointment.

Ruddest

Attend a Civil Discourse meeting some time in the high season, when seating is limited and a long line builds with people waiting for the doors to open. Without fail, some late arriving "civil" person will look at the end of the long line, then strike up a conversation with somebody near the front and enter with them. This isn't about "saving-a-space-for-my-friend-who-had to-get-out-line-to-go-to-the potty." This is claim jumping. It happens at the movies, too.

Well, it takes all kinds to make a community. But, maybe when the grim reaper lines up his next group of souls, the rude people will be at the front.

Was there at 11:45, more employee's than customers. Empty hitting area's for both Taylor Made and Callaway. Must be a early bird thing.

Don’t know. I was there at 9:30 waiting patiently for a 10:00 am appointment. People coming out of the woodwork like they were giving away more than free balls to hit.

Ask anyome that works on the courses here and the most entitled villagers are hard core golfers.

I don't condone the privileged/entitled, which it seems like this person was, bullying people, so next time something like this happens, pull your big boy pants up, grow some stones and tell him to STFU and move to the back of the line.

Do not rely on people that work at a business, as the guys at Sarasota do (probably for minimum wage), to fight your battles; it is their job to take care of potential customers, not stroke someone's ego or soothe hurt feelings.

Also, I go to many of the demo days and I've never seen free lunches served; lines would be backed up Moyer Circle going both ways.

If they were privileged then they wouldn't need the demo. Who would want used clubs if priledged, I didn't (well, except for my driver, they were 1/2 off)

Similar situation of an entitled person. My husband and I were seated in outside area of restaurant. We just received our food. A woman came up and said. I am going to leave a drink on your table so I can have your table when you leave. I explained to her that we would bee there for a while as we were staying to enjoy the DJ. She continued to stand and stare at us while we ate. I again told her the table would not be available for quite a while and that we would like to enjoy our meal without her staring at us. She proceeded to take one of the chairs and pushed some men out of the way so she could sit down. After all that she just got up and left giving us a dirty look!

Are we talking about that great generation that was raised with so much integrity? I'm confused!

PennBF 05-12-2018 08:13 AM

Not New Yorker

I think the person being pushed around is obviously not from New York and specifically Manhattan!! A real NY"er would give the pusher a "get the hell out of here". These bullies rely on people being polite or afraid. I know of very few real NY'ers who would back off and be afraid. A real NYer would have this guy or the pushy woman trying to hustle a table out of being a problem in a minute.

MrGolf 05-12-2018 08:28 AM

Polite yes. That is how I was raised. Afraid, not a chance. I spoke with one of the entitled but did not see it as my place to direct everyone. IMHO that is the responsibility of the organizer. In this case Sarasota employees. Last I checked, we are responsible for how much or how little they are being paid. If it’s not enough, don’t take the job. The only point I was trying to make was that some of the people that live in The Villages need to take a look in the mirror and realize they are no better than anyone else. Done

DonH57 05-12-2018 09:12 AM

I've been to the villages golf festival 3 years in a row and it's about the only place I haven't witnessed this behavior. My guess is there a lot of family attendance or the free samples of adult beverages that calms down the heathens.

To your point...."he only point I was trying to make was that some of the people that live in The Villages need to take a look in the mirror and realize they are no better than anyone else. Done"

You point is valid, understood and agreed with it. There is a "smugness" that exists here.

I moved here in 2000, and watched the attitude change from being thankful, to "we deserve this" and all others do not work, did not work, or build walls to keep everyone out but us. (not political...speaking of the attitude toward Wildwood, Leesburg, etc.)

It permeates this board, entertainment venues, attitudes on restaurants and the attitude of the only opinion IS MY OPINION.

I, and am going further than perhaps you were headed, am disappointed in anyone (whatever generation) that demeans others without an ounce of respect for others OR their opinions.

Many like to talk about Snowbirds but without them many prices, would be over the top. I believe most are just glad to be in TV, if only for 3 or 4 months a year. As time goes onward, some become full-time or at least seasonal residents.

Courtesy of the Snowbirds, who pay year-around amenity fees (thereby keeping them low for all), those of us who are full-time residents...should give thanks to them in spite of the crowding during 'The Season.' :ho:

At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I’d become my enemy

OMG. I loved that song. I loved all his songs back in the '60s. But my father threatened to burn all of his albums. So I spirited them off to my brother's house.

Rudeness here in the Villages? Oh my!
How about when 4 or 5 show up and then scoot next to someone in line, start with a nice "thanks a lot Ted for saving our place inline!"
Well in a ski line at a ski resort, it is easy, we just slide a bit forward and stand on his skis!
Here, well we just have to take it or best to get out your pepper spray. You can be sure NO ONE here will enforce anything. And it is getting really loose, so plan on it.
