Why Don't You Like Eating Outside?

We sat outside Habeneros tonight and it was so delightful!! We were wondering why everyone was sitting inside in the cold a/c and it felt so refreshing to be sitting outside in the nice breeze. Are we missing something? We also can't understand why so many people enclose their lania???

tomwed 06-01-2018 09:43 PM

I like eating outside. I did not enclose my lanai. Live and let live. If everyone decided to eat outside we would never get a table.

Indeed! I like eating on a covered patio as long as the temp is below 80 and it's not muggy. Otherwise, I enjoy the A/C.

My back lanai was enclosed when I moved in, but in 8 years I've never once sat on my screened front porch. I'm that rare Floridian, a sun avoider!

I didn't like my preachy response and changed it. I think a lot of us avoid the sun for most of the year.

I love to eat outside but that's where all the smokers go to eat. Since I quit smoking based on a revulsion for the smell of the smoke and smoke itself, I'd rather eat inside except at my own home.

I've eaten outside at several of the country clubs and never noticed anyone smoking. They allow that?

Chatbrat 06-02-2018 05:15 AM

check the tables ash trays are there for decoration--City Fire and Square one are the worst for non-smokers--the area reeks
we tried the above when we first moved to TV and didn't know any better

I never ate outside at those places and didn't notice ash trays at the CC's, but that doesn't mean they weren't there. May have been oblivious to it and enjoying the company instead. But I definitely would have noticed someone smoking. Is this also the case at the CC's, that smoking is allowed, or just at specific restaurants?

rjn5656 06-02-2018 05:29 AM

Eat outside all the time even it is not hot and muggy.

Stinky.

I like inside

I avoid the sun. I don't like to be hot. I don't enjoy the sometimes loudness of being outside. I don't like the car fumes going by.

Everyone is different, live and let live, but as for me, I'm going to be inside.

What baffles me is law states non smoking in restaurants.

Is the out door dining area considered part of the restaurant?

RJ Reynolds added to my food isn't the spice of my choice

aninjamom 06-02-2018 07:04 AM

We have a "birdcage" outside our lanai, that fortunately is in the shade in the afternoon. We love to eat out there and watch the birds at our feeders. :) We eat outside at restaurants if we don't have to deal with smokers.

Cedwards38 06-02-2018 07:10 AM

Bugs, humidity, rainstorms, wind, sweat, but that's just me.

I would have thought by now that smoking at an outdoor dining area in Florida would have been prohibited as it is in many other states. In Illinois when the outdoor ban went into effect many smokers quit going, but their seats were taken by those who could finally enjoy eating outside without smoke.

Wife loves eating outside. I am a bug magnet so I hate eating outside. Something to do with my blood type I think. We compromise but I usually try to eat inside.

:agree: The smokers ruin it for the rest of us.

I am astonished smoking in outside eating areas of restaurants is still allowed in Florida!

I experienced it at the CCs, cigars as well as cigarettes. Phew!

Cigarette and cigar smoke bother me too quite a bit but it is mostly the bugs that draw me inside.

Remember my nephew eating a sandwich on the Fred Howard Park Beach in Tarpon Springs and a seagull swooped down and took it right out of hand. Then that got the rest of them looking for an easy meal. Pinellas County, Florida, Park & Conservation Resources - Fred Howard Park

graciegirl 06-02-2018 09:17 AM

Love our birdcage. BUGS MAKE ME ITCH just to think about them.

njbchbum 06-02-2018 09:21 AM

How is it that folks who are bothered by smokers on an outdoor/sidewalk dining area are not bothered by auto emissions from cars going by?

Nucky 06-02-2018 09:30 AM

Ramshackle on 441 down that way towards Leesburg? Great food but we had to what we call Chew and Screw because of the fumes. Holy Mackerel Andy, and the place is always jammed. Go figure.

joldnol 06-02-2018 09:43 AM

I love eating outdoors unless it's buggy and muggy

If there was no such thing as a/c the only things living' in Fl would be gators and the Seminoles

raynan 06-02-2018 11:41 AM

Usually we're coming into dine after a very hot round of golf and then the A/C is most appreciated.
As far as enclosing the lanai, we did because of cushioned furniture and frequent afternoon rain showers. Got sick of moving furniture all the time to keep it dry.

Gpsma 06-02-2018 02:18 PM

As i tell the wife...who loves eating outdoors...if i wanted to eat outdoors,Id join the Army.

As far as smokers are concerned....no reason to smoke around other diners. But, i do have a friend who just hates smoke...to the point he complains about the smell from smokers who arent even smoking...as he says.."i can still smell it"...then i ask him how did he like the smells, for his 30 plus year career, commuting on the nyc subways. He doesnt reply.

Some people truly exxagerate the smell of smoke.

manaboutown 06-02-2018 03:09 PM

It's Time for a Full Smoking Ban in Florida

Kissing lanais. No problem - plant the shrubs. By the way 90%% of those shrubs planted are against the covenants - no ARC approval. No barriers allowed and plants are to be less than 4 feets high with 5 foot clearance between each shrub - ask the ARC. Ignoring the rules infraction all is OK until the neighbor lights up.

Eating outside is really nice except when there is a smoker, and it only takes one cigarette. They allow smokers outside and that's the rules. So, that's why we don't eat outside much. The smoke stays with us for many hours.. :spoken:

You are making assumptions! I don't like exhaust fumes either.

pauld315 06-03-2018 06:17 PM

When smoking was allowed inside bars and restaurants, we always ate outside. They made it so people can't smoke inside anymore and built great outside smoking bars, so now we always eat inside. We really do miss eating outdoors.

landscapelady 06-05-2018 08:09 PM

We eat outside on our screened lanai a lot, it is surprisingly comfortable with extra fans when it’s hot out. Restaurants ...almost always eat outside. I like to enjoy Fresh air

Chi33 06-06-2018 08:41 AM
