Snowbirds and gas grills
 

We are splitting our time between the Villages and RI for a while. Just wondering if other part-time Villagers have gas grills. I don’t think it is recommended to store the tanks in the garage while we are gone. Would it be ok to leave outside with a cover on it or would it be best to just put this purchase off until we are down here full time. We are in a courtyard villa. Thanks for your thoughts on this. By the way we do have a gas grill sitting in our backyard In RI but it’s not close to the house as it would be here.

If u leave it outside make sure u tie it down in the event of a hurricane

I leave a spare tank in the garage. We’ve lived here full time since 2014.

I keep ours in a Golf Cart Garage every day and have never really felt really good about it. But the gas tanks that are full waiting for us to purchase are stored outside in the blazing heat and direct sun at Lowes and Home Depot.

Inside or outside? Flip a coin? I'm willing to learn on this one also.

Mine is outside and hidden from view, but it is outside.

If you buy a smaller gas grill from Ace Hardware they have a very small (think camping) propane tank that stores easily. They run 2 for $10. We grill for two people and this grill works great. It comes with a stand, too... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a9e3c4004b.jpg

That truly is all we really needed. It's not like we will be grilling Brontosaurus Burgers for the kids and the friends anymore. We got a small Weber so I guess that ours wasn't overkill but yours is better. Peace Out!

I put my grill and tank in the garage when I leave for the summer. No problem.

Leave outside, tied down.

Careful, we have our grill in our back yard and someone stole the new grill cover we had just purchased.
It just never ends.........

Just wondering.....a call to one of the fire stations might result in a professional answer.

For a couple of dollars worth of gas, empty the tank before you leave and put everything in the garage.

Bring grill inside, remove tank and leave out side. Too dangerous to leave propane indoors. Do a "Google" search.

You could get exchange tanks from Home Depot, Lowe’s etc and just give them the used tank or tanks when you leave & start anew next season. A few extra bucks and no propane to be worried about while you are gone

If anyone wants a full and unused "campers tank" of propane for those small grills let me know. I have an unused one in my garage since I moved down here. We had the "mini-Weber" up north and got rid of it. Those small grills work great but the BTU (heat) output is so low it takes forever to cook things. They are great for a burger or hot dog or 2 but other than that they don't have much power.

Never said it she tied it down? If not the storm/wind could of just blew it away?

I never stored propane tank inside my garage. Most likely it will never leak or explode, but why take chance. When in Ok. When not in use it was tied to pole to keep the ok wind from blowing it over. Down here during high wind it tie it to my Palm tree.

I never store my propane tanks indoors. I am not comfortable with even the slightest risk of a tank or valve leak. I simply store them outside, out of sight and that is it.

If you empty tank, you are polluting the air. Give the tank to a friend to use.

Our son, an engineer specializing in energy, said the tank should never be stored indoors.

If you store outside be sure it is not in the direct sun light.
I do not think most people will have a problem storing the tank in the garage but all you need to be is the one person that has the problem. I would empty the tank.
