What color garage screen preferred

We’are thinking of adding a garage screen for ventilation and to cool the garage. I say a white screen helps deflect sun rays, is cooler and not see-through. Honey wants black. He says in our villas everything is white—true—but boring. I will appreciate opinions whether you have a screen or not. TIA

Bjeanj 07-06-2018 03:22 PM

Our screen is white, the garage door is white. I have been told that the color black absorbs the sun rays, while white reflects them. However, I wouldn’t have anything to compare it to unless I put in a black screen.

Don’t know what else to tell you.

White is our preference

dewilson58 07-06-2018 03:32 PM

Orange, so your wife doesn't run into it.

Oooooooooooooo, am I going to pay for that one.

JoMar 07-06-2018 04:18 PM

I agree, white is boring

SIRE1 07-06-2018 04:22 PM

If you don't want everyone to see what is in your garage, choose WHITE. A black screen doesn't block your vision and you can see right through it, but a white screen blocks your vision and all you see is the screen. Don't believe it, try looking at a white garage door screen and someone's black screen bird cage.

HogPilot 07-06-2018 04:32 PM

White or Beige will afford you more privacy over the black screen.

Bjeanj 07-06-2018 05:52 PM

Are there colors other than white, black, beige (and orange :-) )?

What other options are there?

Fredster 07-06-2018 06:39 PM

I like my garage screen strong and black!

patfla06 07-06-2018 07:12 PM

I like white but then worry it will get dirty or be hard to clean,

Everyone on my street has the lighter colors ( white or beige ) and it looks nice.

We have our screen washed when we have the house cleaned.

I agree
And the installer also said the lighter color screen is much more private

schrdr 07-11-2018 02:36 PM

I vote for black. I matches all my other lanai screens

Tom C 07-11-2018 03:13 PM

I know it may have been pointed out in jest, but the black screen more resembles an opening, and therefore not as safe. The white or light color more resembles the closed door.

With just the screen in place, do you really WANT the door to look open?

My $0.02

Exactly. The lighter colors are definitely aesthetically pleasing, and offer a great deal of privacy.

The colors are largely black, white and some shades of light brown. While there are a few colors, e.g. green, those aren’t on the table (nor the garage). There are also some in the light brown (beige?) range that appear to even be textured.

Although all our villas are unbearably, blindingly white (we only got permission to paint our front doors about a year or so—choice of six (!) colors) my only true complaint about black is that it is a heat sink rather than reflecting and I wanted to leave the garage door open for the breeze, so it stands to reason we should choose white, right? Or beige. Got that? :) .

Uh-oh. That’s pretty “rad” even for me. We love our neighbors. I’ll ask their opinions. :)

Has anybody received quotes to get one of the motorized screens installed for the garage door ? I have and I was actually surprised how high the quotes were (approximately $2300) Is that the going rate ?

I've got prices all over the place from $1700 - $2500 for roll-up depending on the weather or posaition of the stars. Decided to go for a slider (soon) because don't want to have to raise/lower every time I want to walk out through the garage door. I know "power" is better (no bottom track to get jammed) but like to be able to just open 1/4 or 1/2 to walk in or take out GC. Rarely use the car so mostly GC. Also cheaper to repair if needed.
